What might a Steve Wilks staff look like?
ColumbusCounty replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Lol...this may not be a popular opinion but Mitchell is most definitely in my top 5 all time.. Panther SS. I watched a lot offensive players develop alligator arms in his short stint here. Penalty machine but a true tone setter. Idunno how he'd convert as a coach but I could easily imagine the tempo he'd use lol. Side note: The staff listed in the OP is actually realistic imo and also lightyears ahead of what our former head coach put together. It only gets worse when you realize he probably had almost every resource avialable at his disposal...smdh.. All we need is competence at this point. + "just an average" QB and OC and we're 3-1 at the worse. -
What might a Steve Wilks staff look like?
ColumbusCounty replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
DB coach: I could see Walker being brought back due to familiarity but I wouldn't be opposed to seeing Oliver Davis back there. If all else fails...create that man a position. And whatever happens with the staff in the future, I do hope we can retain Tabor. Again the ST is a bright spot for me. I'd even like to retain Wilks too, if he doesn't get the job. Also, I'm starting to love the idea of bringing Chud back for another swing at it. If Wilks could turn this thing around I'd be ecstatic. -
One of best return games I've seen Ginn left...I was asking a few people about #20. As a whole, this entire ST unit continues to be a bright spot

It would have to be an Offensive player... as that's were our problem lies. If it was a defensive player to do it though... it would most likely be Shaq. Who it won't be via everything I've seen from there personality: Sam, Robbie, DJ, Moton, Elfien, Chubba, Ian, Tremble, Baker... etc Almost 90% of our attitude, atleast vocally is on Defense. Closest we have to filling that void on O: McCaffrey. Gotta say though, it would make for a heck of a story if it were DJ. But I just can't even fool myself into believing he'd do it. His demeanor is too nonchalant imo.. which is why I'd love for it to be him. I feel like Robbie has the passion to say it but nobody would take him serious enough. Smitty was/is just an entirely different beast. He used straight up fear to get that point across. The answer is not on the roster. Hell ...bring 89 back as a coach and let him do it again.

Idunno, with this coaching staff it wouldn't suprise me if he finished the game with 8 catches, 159 yards and 2 TDs. IF he gets the chance. He can get in the game but who says he's getting the ball lol. Our #1 and #2 are hard pressed to get five receptions a game. If San Fran plays man to man, it's a wrap.

Please tell me this a isn't a serious post!?!?!

I know we won but this offense is garbage
ColumbusCounty replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
Idunno... that was my take until Shenault popped his head out for his 1st Panther game and almost put up 100 yards. Granted yac played a major part. Watching the game in person, the seperation was lacking. Watching on TV, I thought it was a sync issue. In person it points strongly at Mcadoo and Bake. ***and*** Honestly, Mayfield had most of my section questioning his accuracy. Make no mistake it took a blocked FG and our first defensive fumble recovery for a TD in almost 2 years to get this W. DJ, Robbie and Mccafrey PUT TOGETHER had under 25 yards receiving. Not only is that crazy to think about, it just not acceptable lol. If you knew beforehand that that would be their production as a whole before this game started noone on this board would have believed we'd leave this game as the winner BUT...hell I'll take it. I just want to see a complete team. I'm just hoping as the Oline gets better and the routes get more time to develop we'll look alot better. For as wide as McAdoo's playbook is rumored to be, our offense looked much better in preseason. -

The worst thing that could have happened was to win today
ColumbusCounty replied to Snake's topic in Carolina Panthers
THAT STAT IS DISGUISTING lmaooooo... Smdh... that's gotta look good on the resume. Tepper...the analytic guy is...is he blind to this ... Also, we are 10-25 in the Rhule era. -
Nah, after watching last year .... Baker didnt lose us this game. Game planning and coaching has did. First of all take away the two fumbles on our first two posessions ... we aren't talking about this. Chubba should not be a returner IMO. Wtf is going on with some of these routes??? The Oline is not at all what I imagined. Corbett's and Elf are not cutting it. Ickey gets a pass as he's still developing. I counted 5 drops. And the run D looks vastly different as did Derrick Brown. Get McCaffrey more involved in the passing game. This feels like Checkers vs Chess. P.S.. The Jets beat the Brown P.S.S. The schedule only gets harder.

Person says the Panthers will win this one
ColumbusCounty replied to ladypanther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Gotta admit I'm not interested in any other team except Carolina and who we play each week... that's who I research. My question is: Where exactly is that Cleveland Defensive Line ranked across the NFL? Oline? I'm just looking for any avenue of optimism for the rest of the season. So I'm hoping any reply says they're top 1-5 in both regards. I'd feel a little better about what I did and didnt see last Sunday. -
All I got from reading that was a strong feeling we're going to have a repeat performance. Run defense will be a little improved but Saquon will still have over 100+ yards. I think Snow's scheme only works when the pressure is being heavy. But when it does work it's really efficient. With what we currently have on the roster, the ONLY way to combat us getting 200+ yards ran against us every week would be Offense. Score as much as possible as early as possible and control the TOP by a wide margin. Keep them off the field basically. I'm still amazed noone has scored a passing TD against us in the first quarter in 20+ games...including preseason. And only about 4 rushing TD's. If we could extend that trend even 50% into the 2nd, 3rd and 4th this would b an entirely diff convo. But It just so happens our D is currently running a gauntlet vs physical RBs. Chubb starts the bleeding.... then Saquon...then Kamara/Ingram...then James Conner... (one week rb bye week @ 49ers)...only to run into Fournette the next week. SO ...If week one is any indication we have a LONG road ahead. And that's just taking the first 6 weeks into account. Or maybe this whole run defense thing is being took outta proportion...maybe. But I can atleast say I saw adjustments on Offense... Defense not so much.

To be honest, I feel like we just couldn't bring his big ass down. We really have a problem wrapping up. If it wasnt a one arm tackle we completely whiffed on more than a few occasions. I'd be interested in finding out how many yards after contact he ended up with. I remember having this same mind frame after playing Kamara his first year. We did end up stopping him the next game but the roster was vastly different ... Silver lining is, it's only week 1 and everything we have issues with is correctable. We have the talent but can we put it together.

At this point is it even possible for worse results with the same 11 men?.
-
Not sure if I'm 100% right but if my memory bank is somewhat correct ...YGM was a highly rated prospect coming out...only favored by Chaisson and Chase Young. Pretty sure there were a few predicting he might have even been a late first rounder. We got him in the 2nd..top 100. He has the size but although he did get to QB at Penn State he was probably graded better as a run defender...as was Derrick Brown which is even more frustrating considering our situation. He's definitely underperforming, from my expectations anyway. Hopefully his increased playing time will translate to better numbers as he progresses. The more I look at the line... the more I shake my head.. Burns(1st)- Ioannidis(5th) - Brown (1st) - YGM (2nd) That's alot of draft capital. Returns aren't satisfying. Furthermore... Thompson (1st) - Wilson (4th) - Luvu (UDFA) Horn(1st)/Henderson(1st) - Jackson(2nd) Chinn (2nd)- Woods (6th) I will say Woods and Chinn make a great tandem. But hopefully YGM hasn't reached his peak. Definitely a huge dropoff from Reddick.

I like pff ...but nah ...not today.. Brown...Elf... ?? Chinn... wth

The Run D Problem: Scheme, Personnel, or Both??
ColumbusCounty replied to Jay Roosevelt's topic in Carolina Panthers
THIS!!!!!! ....underrated post. And it's weird because we've been putting personnel in place for three years just to emphasize getting to the QB fast. Yet we couldn't get to the QB at all. Which would be easier to digest if we could stop the run but we couldn't do that either. We jumped out the window for Athletes and SPEED but didn't target power. The scheme just highlights our deficiency. We have the reverse problem of what we had with Rivera.. 3-4 guys in 4-3 spots. Then you add in the fact that our linebackers and corners often miss alot of tackles....its just all bad. IMO ...We've been shaky at run defense since Kuechly retired. The day he left our Run D literally went down atleast a dozen spots. The man was just that good at reading the field, getting other players in position, shedding blocks, etc. Answer: A little bit of everything is the problem. And we've got Barkley on the menu for next week. P.S...STOP dropping our DE's into coverage plz. I should never see Haynes Jr vs any eligible receiver. -
Our last two first round picks, Icky and Horn.....BUSTS
ColumbusCounty replied to GOAT's topic in Carolina Panthers
IMO, Horn had a couple penalties but he also arguably had the best performance of all our corners today. CJ with the blatent panic reaction PI and Donte allowing Donovan Peoples to grab about a half dozen contested catches without a deflection. As for Ickey, it's his first NFL game and he just happens to be blocking what a future HOF talent. Give him time, if his pass pro can catch up to his run blocking we'll be more than fine. Have you seen our non existent pressure DLine?????... that's who he practices against. It's too early for a quality verdict on either. Combined they've played 5 games counting today. If we're talking draft busts I think the fanbase as a whole has found that answer: Derrick Brown Now our first round defensive tackle has been extremely disappointing. He's big for no reason basically. That's the same thing I used to say about Ian Thomas. We do need SERIOUS help at DT and DE. Not to mention MLB. Fix that and we fix our run defense enormously. Letting Reddick leave was an identifiable wrong decision in hindsight. Ironically by not paying for it we're going to pay for it all season long. -
**fixed

Nah I'd have to say DE. LB: Shaq, Luvu, Littleton, Wilson, Smith DE: Burns, YGM, Haynes, Barno Even w
-
He'll end up on the PS if he's eligible. I think he has a high ceiling...just not quite as high as Stanley Thomas Oliver's according to our coaching staff. STO is also pretty good at ST. Speaking of which, I think that's the only justifiable reason Chandler and Franklin are still here imo. These two and Rhule are so attached I get'em mixed up. Side notes: Shi Smith should have made Robert's expendable. Lavishka definitely upgrades the WR depth. Our DE depth on one side, weight wise, is paper thin lol. We have four DE's as of right now. Three on the right with Burns being the heaviest of the three...yeah that might be a problem down the road. Not alot of power but at least we'll be fast...smh P.S. Zlystra, Barnes, Lovett, Kirkwood, or Wright will end up a Patriot.
