  1. And the Panthers invested 24M and have one year to turn Darnold around. Trash will cost 5M total over 4 years. Track busts and they will barely notice. Darnold stays the same and the Panthers are back in the Teddy Vortex of having 19M guaranteed to an ineffective QB.
  2. That’s the choice part. Never said it was easy. And Horn has never played a down. He could also bust. So it a chance on a QB that has been average on his best days, and a rookie who could be anything. The other is a rookie who could be anything, and a top available CB who has proven himself. Or a LT. or anything 90M buys. So how is it half. Actually, I forgot to include Horn’s salary which is very relevant and bigger than Fields. That makes it even worse Current tally, next 4 years. Darnold/Horn: about 130 Fields/???-110M. Reckon that would get an OL or two?
  3. I grew up in Pittsburgh in the 1970s. It’s definitely not the same. Then 1978. And they changed the rules in 2003 as well. And being able to just throw the ball away for the QB should get more attention as a factor.
  4. Does this mean everyone should disregard all the Nobel Peace Prize articles that were written at this time last year. I think one said he saved puppies in his sleep.
  5. The coaches and FO. If a staff feels they can get a better QB, they will do it. There is not set guidelines. If I’m going to the playoffs with Alex Smith, I’m not passing on Mahomes if I think he can be better. It pretty simple. After 2-3 years, of a staff isn’t sure about a QB, they can move on. If they get the chance because they probably got fired for choosing the wrong QB in the first place.
  6. The key being what is defined as a “hole”. Unless there is some sort of special circumstance, no team is giving up on a top draft pick after one year. It took a coaching change for Rosen, and even Haskins got a second year despite seemingly trying to fail.
  7. Even if Darnold “pans out”, he’s going to cost 19M in 2022 and about 90M for the next 3. That’s 109M for the next 4 years. Fields will cost about 20M total. That’s where the “drop in value” comes in. This guy just presents it so poorly. With equal play level, you either get Horn/Darnold. Or Fields and 20M+ each year.
  8. And Hurney could have carried a shotgun into every meeting and wouldn’t have had final say on anything. Especially not the biggest one of all. They weren’t planning for 5 years when they wasted 80M and picks to win a game or two more last year. Kk and Okung and Boston were not long term moves. So either Hurney had nothing to do with this move at all. Or he made a coach on a 7/70M contract believe in his evaluation skill that caused the job opening he just got. On a QB, that a staff member has been championing for years, and his former position coach.
  9. And I only disagreed with one very specific point. WR talent. Which was a horrible trip down memory lane. Neither was that much better to even matter. I don’t think he will be the answer. The trade was worth the shot. But passing on Fields and then guaranteeing him 19M for next is a huge risk(and mistake). It’s a tough needle to thread. It either “slows” down for him or the Panthers are in trouble.
  10. Context from people that get paid by who? You and every gullible fan who needs someone to explain stuff to them. What are their credentials? Just woke up one day and said “I know football”. Last year, many people that get paid said that the Panthers had found the answer at QB. Even went as far as proclaiming TB the best QB in the division. Why would I ever consider opinions from guys in their moms basement over my own. I don’t have to post other people’s opinions to justify mine. And I’ve never said the Jets were a good environment. Gase is awful. Team sucked. But that doesn’t erase all of his decision making issues he’s had since USC. Somehow this organization is going to make him a star? Based on what? Teddy’s performance last year?
  11. My stubbornly closed eyes? LOL The only thing that stat shows is how bad some of the backups were as well. And I don’t need depth charts and cherry-picked excuses to evaluate Darnold. Flacco looked better against NE and SD. Especially NE. I just don’t choose to discount what has ACTUALLY happened in favor of “hopeful” scenarios.
  12. So all that about the players means nothing now? It’s all about the coach? Did Mike Shula/Ron Rivera save Ted Ginns career or did Cam? And Flacco played as well, if not better, than Darnold in his limited time. Wouldn’t this also have to consider how poor the backup QBs were that took his place. Again. Context.
  13. And of course you take it to mean all stats when I clearly am talking about this specific scenario and your use of stats in it. With no context. The best WR Darnold has played with just came to Carolina and had his best season with a QB who they couldn’t get rid of fast enough. Why is that not valid. Seems much more relevant than players with different QBs. Gase also went to the playoffs with Tannehill in MIA. How many times did Darnold make it.
  14. So it’s still stats. How do you figure the QB they played with factors into those? One QB carried a WR1 that couldn’t get on the field to an MVP season and we should compare that to WRs who played with a QB that not one year ago was the subject of this nugget. “Now that we got Robbie Anderson away from Darnold, he’s gonna be great” And now, After an awful season, that same QB is the answer. Makes complete sense. The point is you can’t just use stats without context. You’re going off one year and one of the three was injured which only seems to be an excuse when convenient.
  15. No. And since I’ve cited specific seasons that should be obvious. You brought up Ginn(wrong by a couple) so I corrected it. Plus showed Ginn couldn’t play for another team. Yet he is a talent? A true WR1 who dropped 6 40+ yd TD passes in 2015 alone. And showed that just because a WR or TE puts up better stats doesn’t mean they are. Or Olsen would be considered worse than Mims? Right? Please explain how the 2014-15 WR group was better than the Jets.
  16. That’s why I asked. But it seems to have changed now. And why no mention of Smith, Funchess being a colossal failure. And starting many of these games. Samuel played 4-5 games with Cam. Perriman had a better year with Jamies. Crowder was the same player he always has been. Mims has a half an injury filled season. But we can’t afford him the same luxury of squinting into focus how he will be something he’s never been. And the 2017 was a playoff team with Funchess(hurt) and 4 PS WRs. Yet you brought up 2018 and specifically said you already covered it and why do that if you weren’t confused on years. Or did you forget that already. And you have been shown there were years that they didn’t. All while you’re making up rosters for the wrong years and leaving out anything that does further the fantasy.
  17. Good for you. What does the 2018 WR group have anything to do with a playoff appearance? Olsen had 291 yds that year. Does that mean he wasn’t as good as Mims? Is it stats?
  18. It is the only team that will put you on the field is the Panthers. Ginn not only didn’t play before getting here, he chased the money to ARI, and produced less than a catch a game. Then 2015, a QB won MVP with that same player as his WR1. Add in a rookie Funchess, the slowest WR in the NFL, and an UDFA. I’ll take that Jets group over most of Cams groups. The Panthers played in a playoff game with a 60% Funchess and 4 PS WRs.
  19. Oh me. Ginn wasn’t a part of the team until 2013. Cams 3rd. And had started 3 games in 3 years for a 49er team desperately needing WR. Hixon caught 7 passes. As a Panther. Total. Olsen just got traded for a 3rd. Far from his prime.
  20. An NFL team gave a 2nd and a 5th for Josh Rosen last year. Doesn’t mean the league all thought highly of him. Cam Newton and Winston got 1M. Just shows it was a bad move. Just no risk with Cam and Jamie’s.
  21. While I can see that point, what does it matter 4 years into their careers. Trubisky has at least been very good(and bad) instead of just average and bad.
  22. Not even close. I don’t care one bit about him. But fail to see how he wouldn’t have been as good a choice at much less compensation and risk.
  23. In what way? It sure isn’t performance in the NFL.
