Didn’t realize the evaluation was about only this season and one specific stat. And there are many others with at least 11 and 12. off the top of my head there are many better. When the whole package is considered. Watt-Highsmith Parsons-Lawrence Bosa-Mack Reddick-Sweat Hendrickson-Hubbard -

They were absolutely NOT the best pair of pass rushers in the NFL. -
Question for the Burns pocket watchers...

You don’t get it. It’s about winning games. Not falling in love with certain players enough to overpay them. -
Question for the Burns pocket watchers...
Toomers replied to CamWhoaaCam's topic in Carolina Panthers
It’s pretty simple if you understand anything about business and value. The one team that elevated his “value”(but only to the Panthers) by turning down that trade offer won’t pay him what he wants. The one team that has backed themselves into a corner still won’t pay him. Because he wants 30M/year and about 80M guaranteed. And even the desperate Panthers know he’s not that guy. If he was seeking around 25/55, he would be signed. And other teams aren’t looking to spend draft picks for the privilege of overpaying a player that the Panthers won’t. Why aren’t they paying him? They look worse every day. Yet they still don’t. Why is that. -
Let's play "I could be a better GM than Scott Fitterer"

Robbie signed his extension in August 2021. TMJ was drafted in April 2021. Which makes it worse. They drafted his replacement, then signed him to an additional 20.5M guaranteed for a WR who had a good month. Even though it was not a one year “prove it” deal the Panthers treated it as such and quickly extended Anderson after the season to a new contract worth $14.75 million a season. This would be a disaster for the team as Anderson only had 519 yards in 2021. Rather than paying the original $8 million salary and then letting him walk after a poor season, the new extension saw the team pay $12.5 million in 2021 and then an additional $12.31 million this year. For that extra $16.31 million in cash and cap the Panthers got 6 additional games, 13 receptions, 206 yards, and a touchdown of production. OTC. -
I think I have shown from the beginning, when the Panthers made the horrible mistake of turning down two 1st and a 2nd, that I was correct on Burns value. Every step of the way. Feel free to take a look. They traded the 49ers 1st. So you have to expect a pick after 25(wound up 29) Swapped day 3 picks. Edmunds had a 2.9 YPC in 42 carries over half a season with MIA. He has no value. For a DE they already knew what he would sign for. Unlike Burns who has priced himself over what a team that screwed up and gave him a lot more leverage is willing to pay. But you are proposing another team pay him and trade a 1st for the privilege. One agent had “they trade a late 1st for you” and the other had “they turned down two 1st and a second for you”. There is more to playing edge than making one good play a game. When you’re a liability on 40%+ snaps, how valuable are you?

It’s controlled at 13M for one year. Where you could have a 3rd round rookie at 5-6M. For FOUR years.
-
I’m sure it would. But the Bengals(or any team) hangs up immediately. What’s the thought process here? Burns isn’t worth Higgins and a 1st. He’s barely worth either, separately And TMJ sure ain’t worth a 4th. To a Bengal team that has one DE better than Burns already, and another who is well above average. Signed thru 2025 at less than Burns wants, by himself. The Bengals don’t want Burns.

Expected response when you can’t find anything wrong with what I wrote. Care to debate any of it. Or are you sticking with deflecting?

What was the record of this “core” before DG? That same core was the worst team in the NFL minus Cam and Luke. Then Rivera made the decision to take Cam. 6-10. Then add Luke. 7-9. Then add those “non-elite” DL and Luke is DPOY. The only OL or DL that made it to the Super Bowl were Kalil and CJ(at a 20M cap hit for a player that wasn’t starting half the time). Norwell(All-pro), Turner(All-pro), Short(All-pro). None of the WRs. One DB(Norman) who benefitted from that DL. And you want to claim some of those non firsts are good picks. Let’s judge them by comparison. Considering also this is 13 drafts against 5. If Manning is good then Kony Ealy and Worley are too. Evan Mathis…lol. Daryl Williams puts him to shame as a Panther. Unless Hurney gets credit for sticking the needle in his ass after his career was about over. Barnidge had 18 receptions in 4-5 years. LaFell has similar numbers to Funchess and KB had more receiving yards in 20 less games. Samuel was every bit as good too. By your criteria, almost every pick DG made was good. Which it most certainly was not. KB brought back a 3rd and made 9.2M the year after leaving CAR. Butler even got 2/16M. Funchess 1/10M. Star 5/50M. So someone thought they had value with the Panthers. Of Hurneys 70+ picks after the first round, there’s not even 13 solid guys to speak of. Bottom line. Hurney: 98-110 13 years. 3 winning seasons. 3 playoff appearances Gettleman: 50-29-1 5 years. 3 winning seasons. 4 playoff appearances Hurney gave the fans shirts to buy. Gettleman gave the fans the most successful run in team history.

If only someone could have seen all this coming? I was assured that trading Burns for 2 1sts and a 2nd was crazy. That he was worth the extra it would cost turning that deal down. And the Panthers would be able to get that deal anytime later if they wanted. Now, getting one late 1st is probably the best case scenario. Huddle logic wins again!!!!!

The MAJOR difference is that the Panthers still owe Sanders 10.5M in guaranteed money after this year. Or watch his cap hit rise to 7.6M next year. Guaranteed money(especially with RBs is all that matters. Where the Eagles only have Swifts 1.7M this year to worry about. And everyone bought it. Just like Hurst, Bell, Tuttle, and Thielen. All have at least 10M in guaranteed money left to be accounted for because of cheap first years. What are the odds they are all on the team next year because of their play and not their dead cap hit.

Not edited because my idiocy should be display. My bad man

That’s on me. I thought y’all had a 21-3 lead in the later one. Total f-up there. Good call. Not edited because my idiocy should be display. My bad man

No. I’ve thought he was a liability against the run his entire career.
-
What CAR/TB game were you watching where Burns got a sack in the game? He was famously invisible. No sack. One TFL. 65 snaps.
-
I posted facts about them together. That disputed the statement that Highsmith’s jump in stats was because Watt was out. I agree. It’s usually the opposite argument when discussing those two. But not this time. Just another attempt at “numbers before his nap”
-
The Steelers contingent would like to pass. They already have backup edge players.
-
If you don’t think he is going to be challenged just because of 3-4, you’re going to be severely disappointed. Teams find weakness.
-
Dont have to tell you. It’s all on here. This is just the latest in a long line of mistakes made with money. And I warned against all of them. How about you? It’s not as good as your….. ….defense, but it will do
-
Did he get bit by a radioactive spider in the off-season?
-
Who plays strong side? Highsmith? He had 3.5 sacks when Watt was out. 11 when he was playing. Burns also has 4 years of below average run defense. Something Highsmith will never have. So if you have to “squint” this hard to try and justify Burns being even a little bit better, how can someone believe he’s worth 10M more. Or 80M more guaranteed?
-
Steelers were smart enough to sign him before all of this. And you said you would get back with sources for your “numbers” after you took a nap a felt better. No one, including you, has shown why Burns should get 10-13M/yr more than Highsmith. Or any more for that matter. Why is it a different situation now?
