Favre was actually playing really well for the Jets until week 12 or so. The Jets had just stomped the undefeated Titans on the road and were 8-3 with Favre getting MVP consideration. But he hurt his shoulder the next week and they(and he) did look terrible after that. Brady is just the anomaly. The outlier. Five years ago, he was getting stomped in the SB by the Falcons and when he threw a pick 6, he tried to make a tackle and it looked like someone threw a dead body out of a moving vehicle. Every person watching cringed and two hours later, he led the greatest comeback in SB history. And has won 2 more since. I don’t think I’ve ever wanted him to win a game, but he’s got my total respect and should play until he’s at least not a top 5 QB anymore. Which he has last year. Remember when it was fun to discuss the best QB ever. Now that discussion is whose after Brady.

Don’t ever watch the Showtime special about him. I mean I knew, but I didn’t know.

I have a feeling that Berry wasn’t the one who ultimately made this decision. Or they wouldn’t have had to come back with this offer. Haslem had to at least approve. And Berry would have to have some big brass ones to even suggest this amount guaranteed to an owner. Have to admit I thought/hoped HOU would take more picks and some players. Shocked there are no 2nds

They stole my theory…lol. Well put it out there first not stole. But this was one of many reasons to not do this deal. Was Watson willing to change his entire social life. Not massages. Clubs or any partying where you can be accused of something and any picture from the wrong angle and a just ONE woman who wants some money, and the Panthers are stuck in this mess with a lot more money at stake. I don’t know what Ben R. did, and I’ve thought he was a D-bag before the accusations, but he got married to a Dr. and never put himself in the position to be accused again. Is Watson going today to do that in CLE. Edit: And there is no telling what any womens rights groups might have planned. Maybe nothing. I have no clue. But it’s 2022 and I would never speak for what matters to anyone else. Add that to injury risk(like any player) and he could easily get pissed and pull this crap again on his new team. This year is basically shot if he gets suspended for 8 games. In a division with the Bengals, Ravens and Steelers it’s hard to imagine contending with him out half the year. The theory that Tepper would let him pick the next HC. Didn’t believe that, although please hire Brian Flores and get the Steelers two extra 3rds. He’s a very good/great player but that’s crazy. His resume isn’t loaded with rational decisions and it’s ridiculous to give a player control. Just sign the team over to him. If someone said would you give Watson 5/230M guaranteed before any of his off - field issues, is it an immediate yes? More than Mahomes or anyone? Even if you say well, ok, we can build around him. Whoa? Not so fast. You also lose the 5 best resources to help with that building. And possibly a valuable resource you already have. How about now? The Panthers were fortunate someone came to their senses They seem to be doing well in FA. Just keep making good decisions and the wins will come.

I just don’t understand why no one has ever taken you seriously?

I agree it had to be his decision. The Panthers had to want the extra years for multiple reasons. Just guessing it’s in the 6M range which is still a great deal for the team. Heck 3/24M with 10M guaranteed would have been good. Like you said, take the gift.
-
But he didn’t seem to fit that mold. And you would think he would have as well. Just early for prove it deals for a player I assume would have some options still.
-
I’m sort of shocked at the One year deal from either side. I thought he was a little overvalued in what he would get but he’s still a solid OL. Just seems strange that the team wouldn’t want him on at least two years for cap reasons. And guys don’t usually take “prove it” deals this early. He’s good and this is before knowing how much he even got. Just not a typical situation this early in FA. It would be hard for it to be an amount that makes it a bad risk in any way. And at 27, one would think the Panthers would want him tied up if he works out.

The news will reach Narnia later on today.

Just about… NO further destroyed their future. ATL pissed off their QB Panthers didn’t destroy future on unstable asset. Watson in another conference.

About the only thing I paid any attention to was the Saints cap, and y’all’s some. The Saints better hit every draft pick for a long time. People will soon find out there is a salary cap. They were counting on Watson bridging that talent gap that will be created in the coming years. Whatever made it not happen….be thankful for it.

Not making this trade will be one of the absolute best moves the Panthers have ever made. There are so many ways this can go bad, and as A Steelers fan, I’m ecstatic CLE was dumb enough to do this. They had a good thing going and have now bet the whole thing on a player with some many variables to implode. Enjoy the good fortune and build the team. I did want to see the Saints just fold up like cheap lawn furniture if they took him and his salary on, but I’ll enjoy the Browns demise even more.

He’s already taking up 2.6M of cap space this year. Surely not…lol -

And stats without context is usually where you land. It’s the limit of your knowledge. Never mind their careers. Injuries. Targets. Catch %. Just off counting stats which are still pitiful. Take a poll. Ask how many Panther fans think Robby’s deal is not terrible. I just think your opinion and justifications of it are wrong and that’s my OPINION. -
It may be. Just that Sportrac doesn’t show their terms and they are just listed at the bottom as blank for the moment.

I can look at Robinson being an actual WR1 on two different teams. Both with questionable QB play. And still having high quality seasons. And even hurt for a 1/3 of the year last season still played better with just as poor an offense and no DJ Moore drawing the attention. I can think it’s a terrible contract, and can show numerous reasons why. As I have. Including when it was signed last summer. -
They also haven’t figured in Gonzalez, Woods, Haynes, Foreman.

Adams and Robby should never be mentioned in the same breath. And if Robby was even average, you might have a point. But he pouted, got an extension, and mailed it in.. Then had the 3rd worst catch % in the NFL. Worst Y/TGt for a WR. Nothing another team or WR does makes any of his extension less ill-advised. Aaron Rodgers got 50M. Does that make giving Darnold 19M guaranteed any better? And Kirk got 4/72 at 3 years younger. Not the 21/yr reported at first. -

15M/yr for solid? At his best. And just because some random guy on Twitter says there is interest, doesn’t make it so. There was never a logical reason for NE to be interested in him. Who else was? And if any team was mildly interested, this restructuring was a horrible idea. Just because JAX is ignorant, doesn’t make RAs deal better. Other teams making mistakes doesn’t mean the ones this team has made are suddenly justified. -

It’s still terrible. There was no reason to give it to him in the first place, and then he went out and avg. 4.7 yds/target and dropped a ton of passes. Just because others got paid, doesn’t make his deal less of a mistake. -
Three top 10 QB's refused to play for Matt Rhule.
Toomers replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Rhule had total control and made the decision to try and be competitive instead of logical. There’s plenty to blame Hurney for, but none of this mess is his. Rhule made it clear when Andrew Berry(and then no other candidates) would interview because they knew it was all Rhule’s decisions. Giving Rhule’s project QB 34M guaranteed, changed the direction immediately. Then CMCs deal, and you know the rest all too well. Hurney was here to take the blame for anything that went wrong year one. Then many of the same things happened when he was gone. -

But it’s not. And won’t be. So why would they not want their money early and alll at once. And the NFL has the best system. There are no loopholes. The rules are the same for every team. Paying 53 players is just much more complicated than 12. -

Why would the players want to stop it. They get their salary right now instead of 17 checks during the season. Everyone has the same rules. -

Toomers replied to Actionman0z's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yep. It limits options on players that don’t play well or stay healthy. Now if a WR desperate team was willing to take Anderson, he would be an immediate 21.5M dead cap on this year because they took his base salary and kicked half down the road. Just like CMC. Trading him would actually cost 5M more on this year’s cap. People love to say the cap doesn’t matter but when was the last time the Saints made the SB? Following this “spend it all” model? With a HOF QB the whole time. -

Rhule’s squeezing every ounce of blood out of this rock to try and save his job. No trade possible now with RA.
