Every game he missed would cost him close to $1M. He's not going to miss games.

JPP actually gained money by not signing the tag. Had he signed it prior to his fireworks accident then the Giants could have put him on the non-football injury list for the entire year and not paid him a dime. The reason he waited so long after the accident to sign was so that he could force the Giants to clear him physically before signing so they couldn't do that and thus guarantee that he would get paid.

Great breakdown to explain what exactly is going on and the possible scenarios that could occur. I'm of the opinion that he won't be at OTAs unless he has a long term deal signed. There is also pretty much no chance a long term deal gets done before the start of OTAs. If one was to get done then it will almost certainly happen right at the 7/15 deadline. There were like 3 deals signed that day last year by franchised tagged players. Therefore, I have zero expectation that Josh is at OTAs. I know it's not normal around here for someone to skip them but it is standard practice in the NFL for players that have been tagged to not go to OTAs. It's really not a big deal. Also, if we don't get a deal done with Josh by the 7/15 deadline then I fully expect him to sign the franchise tag and be there for the start of camp. Based on absolutely nothing except my own intuition, I'd say there is a 90% chance he ends up playing on the franchise tag in 2016, 9.99% chance he gets a long term deal done before the deadline and a 0.01% chance he signs a a long term deal before the start of OTAs.

Maybe this is why Dodd is starting to move ahead of Lawson
-
I know that it appears to be trending this way in mocks and reports are that a lot of personnel guys think it too, but someone will have to explain to me just how in the hell Dodd is better than or will get drafted higher than Lawson. Lawson is a much better athlete so his potential is higher than Dodd and his production was better. Lawson is also a full two years younger than Dodd as well. Dodd killed it in the playoffs against Oklahoma and Alabama, but he was playing against garbage RTs. Meanwhile, Lawson had a hurt knee and did nearly as well playing against future pro LTs on those two teams. Unless there is off the field stuff I don't know about, it doesn't make any sense. I would be thrilled if we could get Lawson instead of Dodd.

Is Kony Ealy the next great Panthers defensive end?
Bartin replied to Jeremy Igo's topic in Carolina Panthers
Listed weights pretty much never change from the players rookie years. Cam is still listed at 245 and he's at least 260 now. -

I read the whole thing. I guess I made it sound like I was disagreeing with you which wasn't really my intent. I'd just been wanting to say that because it seems like people are getting caught up in the hype of his monster game and this felt like the right place to say it. -

I sure think he's got a great chance, but I caution against assuming one great game in a big moment means future dominance. Larry Brown, Ricky Manning Jr, Chris Matthews and Malcolm Smith all come to mind. Not to say it means nothing because Malcolm Butler and Justin Tuck both went on to become stars after big moments in the Super Bowl. Looking at his entire body of work from the 2015 season is what leads me to believe he is on his way to becoming a stud rather than a MVP-like performance in the Super Bowl, but it is easy to get caught up in the hype since he was our only real bright spot from Sunday. -
It's the same as people thinking the Patriots are only Tom Brady and Belichick or that the Packers are Aaron Rodgers or that the Colts were just Peyton Manning or that the Saints are just Drew Brees. Every single one of those teams has had superstars at other positions that get largely ignored by opposing fans because of a superstar QB. It's the nature of the QB being so much more important than any other position. Is it a dumb name? Yes, absolutely. Is it insulting? Not really. If anything it is complimentary. I think it's nice to actually have a QB at that level.

CJ got out run by a guy who ran a 5.0 40 lol

KK Short Is The Carolina Panthers Defensive MVP

Kawann is probably looking at $12-14M a year with the way 3 tech DT contracts have been trending. -
Giants Rookie Left Tackle Will Start Despite Ankle Injury
Bartin replied to Jeremy Igo's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, I'd love to be proven wrong, but I have zero faith in CJ or Allen getting to the QB on anything but a play where the QB holds the ball for 3.5+ seconds which are coverage sacks. I really think it might be time to turn the reins over to Ealy and Addison and give them 2/3 of the snaps. -
I disagree here. One safety doesn't cut it against us unless you've got Earl Thomas. You need both playing a deep cover 2 shell. Almost every time the defense lines up single high in cover 3 or cover 1, Cam audibles to a go route to Ginn, Philly or Funchess. Getting to Ginn on the sideline from the middle of the field is an impossible task. This is how the Cowboys shut down our passing attack. It does leave the middle of the field open to be exploited by Olsen and Cotchery, but if you force us to beat you with dink and dunk over the middle than that is your best chance. The Cowboys do have Sean Lee who is one of the best coverage LBs in the NFL and the Giants don't have anyone close to that, but it's a risk you have to take. You have absolutely no chance to stop us with the way Cam is throwing the deep ball right now. There's a chance if you make us sustain long drives down the field as his intermediate accuracy can be hit or miss. If you make him throw it over the middle and hope he misses high leading to INTs. The opposing fan refrain of "stack the box, contain rush Cam and double Olsen" is exactly what I wouldn't do.

Giants defense is terrible but there is one thing they do well. They are 2nd or 3rd in the NFL in takeaways(Panthers are 1st). If they manage to get some early turnovers like the Saints did against us then they can turn it into a game.

Panthers changes this week, what you need to know
Bartin replied to Jeremy Igo's topic in Carolina Panthers
Lou Young isn't even on the 53 man roster right now and the speculation was that he would only be called up if Peanut had to go to IR. Still possible that Peanut stays on the roster, but can't play yet so we cut one of Delaire, Wegher, Marlowe or Norwood to make room for Young, but I find that scenario fairly unlikely. We've avoided cutting them before because the team is high on those guys for the future and don't want to risk losing them. -
Teddy's got that Uncle Rico sidearm floater. The difference between him and Cam is just hilarious.
-
I'm coming around on Ealy, but Delaire needs to play like 50 snaps at LE this week. Bell gets destroyed on speed rushes and finesse moves which is basically all Delaire does. Ealy's power was great against Bulaga but I think this should be Delaire's week to go off. Bell is big and powerful and is decent if he gets his paws on you, but he gets torched by straight speed and spin moves.

At the beginning of the season, I heard a Packers fan call in to NFL Radio and say that they should fire McCarthy and hire Bill Belichick.
-
Pressure up the middle is definitely the best way to get after Cam. That's why they said they should run(A-gap) blitz. Up the middle pressure is when he starts back-footing really high throws and and tries to back out of the pocket and can take huge losses if he gets sacked. Luckily the middle is exactly where the strength of our line is located and their LB's are garbage so I don't expect much at all from them if they do try to come at him from there.

Bucs with 4 active WR's and 3 are UDFA rookies. Their WR corps has been wrecked by injuries. No ASJ either. Evans and Martin are gonna need huge days if they want to pull this off. I'll eat crab legs for dinner if they do.

Odell Beckham and Dez Bryant disagree. You're right that we are trending away from it though. -
Stephen A. Smith believes we should apologize to Steve Smith
Bartin replied to nctarheel0619's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not really. He gets paid like $6M/year by ESPN and they have no intention of dumping him. He is doing pretty damn well for himself. -

He may not be coming back but to use a player's and coach's public statements as proof something isn't going to happen is silly. I can't even count the number of times a coach or GM or player has said something about a personnel move that later turned out to be completely false. -

What if he gets traded to GB who are banged up at WR and his first game is the Blood and Guts Bowl II next Sunday?
