It really is a messed up story. The original explanation they gave was the murderer asked to borrow her car and after she refused that she was murdered. That's a pretty ridiculous escalation of the situation. If she was shot in the midsection that lends a lot more credence to the thought she was targeted considering she was pregnant.

There is a max, but there are quite a few different ways his contract can be structured. Teams get a total of $86k in signing bonus to split amongst all their UDFAs. We didn't sign too many so it is possible we still have more of that pool remaining than most teams. Then there is the ability to guarantee his salary which has no limit as far as the percentage of the salary. I imagine most teams would be willing to guarantee the full salary for all 3 years to Collins since it's a total of $1.3M and that will probably be required by his agent to sign him. Assuming we are willing to guarantee his whole deal which we should and still have a decent amount of UDFA signing bonus money left, we should be able to offer him as good or better a deal as any team can. When you factor in our OL situation and the ability to showcase his talent early on a top team so he can get that big 2nd contract, we should certainly be front runners for his services. The issue will be whether we are willing to commit to that before he is fully cleared(probably not) and how hard we will recruit him before being fully cleared. Those will be mitigating factors. I think we have a good chance but I'm pessimistic.

Pretty sure they underestimated the number of teams interested in a top 15 pick available as a UDFA(assuming he's cleared) by a factor of 8.

Florio is a lawyer and knows his stuff. If there was something in the CBA that showed Rex explicitly violated a rule, he would have found it and reported it. He loves the opportunity to create controversy. It appears the Bills found a loophole that exists solely because there has never been a similar situation to the one Collins has right now and may never be again. There has never been a UDFA that elicited recruiting visits from teams before. I suspect it will get changed in the future but for now I don't think Rex broke any rule despite violating the spirit of the rule.

He could certainly beat out Henderson and Koundijo to be a starting tackle in Buffalo. Also, don't underestimate the allure of Rex. He is an amazing recruiter. Players LOVE him.

Round 1 - Carolina Panthers Select Shaq Thompson

Well they are all Washington fans. The same would happen on this board if the Seahawks drafted Justin Hardy. -
Official NFL Draft Round 1 Thread - General Chatter

Must come from good genes. We should probably move him up on our board. -
Great post. Love football strategic breakdowns like this, but from all appearances the goal is to use Bene as the big nickel. That's been brought up consistently this offseason and why they made the effort to try and sign a big CB to play the outside. Bene is 6'0" and a sure tackler for a CB and that's the role they drafted him for.

Just because players are athletically similar doesn't mean they compare well as football players. Games aren't played in underwear as our GM likes to tell us. TD while in college played most similarly to the way Landon was used last year by Alabama. Landon also has the 2nd best coverage grade for safeties(though that doesn't say much in this class) and 4th best run defense grade according to PFF. Also just a correction, the 20 yd short shuttle does not measure sideline to sideline speed. It's a change of direction speed measurement which is still really important in coverage maybe even more so than sideline to sideline speed. Sideline to sideline is probably best measured by the 20 yd split in the 40.

Falcons have told pot head Ray they will Draft him at #7
Bartin replied to nctarheel0619's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Falcons will run a 4-3 but it's very different from the traditional 4-3 we run. They have what's called a LEO position which is the weakside DE whose primary responsibility is getting up field and rushing the passer. The traits for the LEO are typically more similar to a 3-4 OLB than a 4-3 DE. Ray would be fine in their system. -

I mean they kind of do. Roddy is 33 and they have no one else behind him. A pass rusher is certainly their biggest need, but they need another WR in the near future as well. -

Even if they did tell him that, that doesn't mean it's true. Teams lie to the players all the damn time that they are going to draft them at a certain pick. -
6. SHAQ THOMPSON, Washington (6-0, 228, 4.59, 2): Won the Paul Hornung Award as the nation's most versatile player. "He's played running back, safety, linebacker," one scout said. "He hasn't played linebacker very much. Lavonte David was much more instinctive. You hope if he just sticks to one position he can learn how to use his hands, which he doesn't now." Despite averaging 7.5 yards in 61 rushes, he has told teams he wants to play only LB. "I don't see him as a backer," another scout said. "Once he sees the ball he is so quick and so explosive he can make plays, but I don't think he's instinctive." Finished with 233 tackles (15 for loss), 3½ sacks and 13 big plays (four defensive TDs in '14). "I think he's another Adam Archuleta," a third scout said. "Archuleta played linebacker and they moved him to box safety and blitzed him. Same guy." Had an unsuccessful stint in 2012 as a minor-league outfielder. Third-year junior. "They (Husky coaches) were so tired of him they virtually said to him, 'You've got a great shot. It's probably best for you to go this year,'" a scout said. "He made a lot of stupid 15-yard penalties. I was surprised (coach) Chris Petersen put up with him." From Sacramento. Shaq is overrated and the TD comparison is lazy and means you didn't watch TD in college. TD's best comp is actually Landon Collins. He was a FS at Georgia who was used as a rush LB on 3rd downs and he struggled in coverage. Instincts and run defense were his biggest strengths.

Average time to select a 1st round pick since it went to 10 minutes per 1st round pick is 7.5 minutes. That puts us on the clock at 11 PM and you should allow some time in case it goes quick.

10:45-11:00. I'd start watching at 10:30 to be safe.

Mark Barron 2.0 -
Swearinger is Mark Barron 2.0. Can't cover and misses tackles going for the big hit then when he gets the big hit he gets flagged.

I reserve my right to fully hate and be pissed off at any draft pick we make and later claim that I loved it the whole from the beginning(and vice-versa). -
Star almost quit because he had to go to a junior college to qualify academically. Smith almost quit while he was in one of the best programs in the country on their way to a national championship because he didn't get the ball enough. Pretty major difference in the situations.

No, but I'd totally take the East Carolina long snapper. You can't pass out coozies if you're not 1st round material. Them's the rules.
