actually I think linebacker should be in that mix. even over TE.

I like Vorhees and Mohamed the best. believe it or not I don't see getting two tight ends. tremble ain't no world beater but he still has room to grow. Jalen Carter is a unstoppable force but another first round DT? A defensive end is more valuable than a rotational nose tackle. sorry not sorry big JC isn't gonna play every down 350 pound men need a breather. too much offense and low value positions at premium spots. not a fan dude.
-
keep him if possible. no low ball disrespect offer but let him test market. 2-3 years market value and add a later round RB rookie to fill the gaps if he gets injured. is Blackshear around for a bit or is a 1 year rental? if so he is another guy to offer a deal but not crazy money. going into next season with Chubba, Foreman and Blackshear with a young guy with a chip on his shoulder for not being drafted earlier would be the way to go. we really can't afford to use a high pick on RB with all the other needs.

Are you In favor of bring back Laviska Shenault next season?
mickeye76 replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
Shenault has talent. we should find a OC that can use it. TMJ needs reps and confidence. Moore needs a QB. Shi needs time to develop. I like our WR group we just need to open up the offense a bit. That said I like the jumbo packages and running the ball down their throat. Introducing some deeper throws, play action and more creative play calling is the next step. -
nice take man. our linebacker group used to be arguably the best in league. with teams poaching our 2nd string we were so good. now we might be struggling to put a Corp together. of the guys you mentioned Owen, Trenton and Noah are my favorites. I would add Nolan Smith to that short list as a possible replacement for Shaq. unfortunately I can't see us using a premium pick on linebacker with our other needs so we gonna have to get lucky and also hope Brandon Smith makes strides during the off-season. the free agency bunch are talented but some are long in the tooth. Personally Trenton Simpson ( home state kid) is my fave but he looks like a 1st rounder. believe or not the secondary and DL look closer to completion ( minus another DE and FS) than the linebackers who need a legit MLB of the future and depth.

Panthers' situation aside, who are your favorite overall prospects?
mickeye76 replied to saX man's topic in 2023 NFL Draft
moss was the comparison I saw too. Johnson could be special. I could easily see him as the target for the Cardinals. Murray needs to stay healthy and a top WR. Quintin learning from Hopkins could put him ahead of the game. -
McCall transferring could work out very well for him. More exposure from a more nationally recognized program or he could regress and get beat out by someone we haven't even talked about in that bigger program. I like the kid and if our game plan is to throw short and intermediate with emphasis on not making mistakes he fits. So does Sam Hartman for Wake. obviously Richardson and Levis are prototypes. Big, tall athletes with velocity on throws but do they have it between the ears.

I'm gonna focus on less talked about needs like linebacker, de, corner and free safety. the draft is a hope to upgrade. Burns is legit. we need someone on the other side. we have been creative with our blitzes to get luvu involved but defensive end is a need. Shaqs time in carolina may be at its end. his salary hit is becoming problematic. we need side line to side line speed and solid tackling behind the dline. Chinn is really fun to watch sometimes. when he is not so fun is when he is forced to play coverage instead of seek and destroy. pairing him with a young ball hawk that complements him would solidify the last line. I like Donte but Horn is the real deal. much like the safeties situation to build for the future we need to find him a partner in crime. bring thieves ave back. lastly the Brady C experiment at LG has been meh. at this point he might be better as the reserve swing tackle and bringing in for jumbo packages. let's put somebody beside Ickey that way the left side is set. the offense is evolving. QB is obvious. the less obvious need is another RB. Hubbard, Foreman and Blackshear have been impressive at times but there is a possibility of upgrading. tight end and wide receiver I see as Free Agency targets less draft targets. it all depends on free agency what needs are still present come draft day.

not part of the tank for the 3rd option QB fan club. it felt good to win today. our defense is playoff caliber and with a few additions ( linebackers, DE and a safety to pair with Chinn) we could be elite. as of right now I see the draft shaking out this way. 1. Houston takes young or stround. 2. Seattle takes whoever the Texans doesn't. Detroit is the wild card. They could move on from Goff or at least put a contingency plan in effect with Levis or Richardson. Then we have the Colts likely to pick ahead of us. They pick either levis or Richardson. And here we are picking like 9th with ALL the QBs gone. it isn't the end of the world. A top linebacker like Trenton Simpson, top corner to pair with Horn like Ringo or a trade down to solidify multiple positions are still options. I know if we end up with a linebacker, corner or defensive end in the first it will be SO unsexy of a pick but a scenario where we come away with replacements for Shaq, Donte, and upgrades at DE, FS and LG would be win in the long run. I know some y'all short sighted and don't understand WIN/good LOSE/sux.

not a rivalry anymore. we always played them in playoffs or playoff implications games. this game does not really matter. I still hope we win cause draft position is not worth losses to lesser teams. yes they are lesser.

Panthers' situation aside, who are your favorite overall prospects?

Mazi Smith of Michigan. does the dirty work. Michigan has a nice program with the Dline recently. Rashon Gary and Aiden Hutchinson have recently can out of there. Mazi is stupid strong. 326 lbs of fury. him and brown would be exciting. I also like Nolan Smith Jr of Georgia. him and Luvu playing at linebacker would cause issues for opposing QBs. -
that DT yelling at Russ did not look like he had given up. Players hate to lose. People just cashing checks don't care.

Who should we be looking at outside the "top 4" QB candidates?
mickeye76 replied to rayzor's topic in Carolina Panthers
Richardson. Pennix is damaged goods. if it's not a QB we need to look at Quinton. Also a top LB or CB shouldn't be overlooked. -
two scenarios picking 2nd overall Bryce Young or CJ Stround 2nd round. 34. Jahmyr Gibbs or a defensive end ( still doing research on the position) 54. Jordan Battle or Zay Flowers. A partner in crime for Chinn or a speedy finesse wr to supplement TMJ and Moore. 83. Mazi Smith or linebacker (again doing some homework on this position as well) SECOND scenerio picking third instead. 1st. Will Anderson Jr 2A. Hooker or McCall. another developmental QB to compete with a healthy FINGERS Crossed Corral. 2B. Zay again or a RB. either another bruiser like Foreman or a scat like back. 3rd. Mazi again or just defense in general LB,CB, or Safety.

We currently have the #2 pick in the draft :)
mickeye76 replied to Varking's topic in Carolina Panthers
I agree. Seattle and Denver are suspect. if a darnold miracle happens or PJ comes back and plays well we could win those games. -
Anderson is gone, but we still have a bear
mickeye76 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I knew bozeman would be good for us. hell I wanted him in that draft. the oline is the best we have had in years. I do kinda wonder if Brady can be upgraded and moved to swing tackle backup. no offense to him but I still think tackle is his natural position. I wouldn't do it super early but if the right draft pick is there. -
a decent young pass rusher is always making bank in FA. we have one. Miami traded for one then promptly paid him. Young pass rushers rarely even hit the market. I know a bunch of people don't think much of Burns but he is the best we got.
-
if you tear it all down though the rebuild takes longer. a pass rusher and number 1 WR are part of the formula for a winning franchise. with Burns and Moore gone that is two more pieces we would have to replace likely with premium picks. picks we can use instead on other missing parts like QB, the other DE, and linebackers. moving CMC made sense because of injury concerns and that a committee of non premium picks can produce alongside Foreman. we will be greatly improved after this next draft if we hit on our picks. leaving this draft with either Young, Stround, or Anderson in the first will help nearly immediately. Hooker/Anderson or Young/ Gibbs makes us more dangerous.
-
I see archetypes for the QB draft. there's the athlete, the game manager, the media favorite, then guys with talent who for whatever reason cant get out of their own way. Injuries do fall into this category. I propose the "breakfast club" QB class system. 1 .the Princess 2. the Criminal 3. the Basket case 4. the Brain 5. the Jock example recent class. Pickett is a princess. Willis is the Jock Bailey is the Brain. it's between corrall and rudder to prove me wrong neither will end up the basket case or criminal. My money is on Ridder as the Criminal. just look at the OP's handy chart and you can't tell me Lawrence was not the princess of his class. Have fun.

Gabe Davis is a freak athlete in Buffalo. TMJ. is gonna develop into a very good WR. we just need patience. also Shenault is a big bodied guy Shi Smith has potential too. Not opposed to adding a big guy soon but not a priority IMO. I actually would prefer a sure handed smaller guy and scat back who can catch.

What’s your 2023 QB big board (including Corral)
mickeye76 replied to Wundrbread33's topic in Carolina Panthers
I too like Young the best so far. CJ is likely more "ready" than Levis but Levi's has some interesting attributes. my dark horse favorites are Cam Ward and Hendon Hooker. Corrall injury worries me. That and a new regime is likely. He may be screwed from the start. If we go with a different position I feel Will Anderson from Bama is the guy. I know defense again? But him Burns, Chinn, and Horn would be a nice core for the defense. -
We pretty much have to take a RB on day 2 in the draft, right?
mickeye76 replied to t96's topic in Carolina Panthers
karmic justice says we draft a RB with that 2nd round pick from the 49rs. A offense revamp will be the plan. -
I agree. Lots of folks are iffy on the edge but I like the depth. Burns, Barno, YGM and Hayes is decent. Tight end has questions according to some but I like the guys ok. I think Ricci has earned a spot and Sullivan has potential. Not many teams will carry three qbs so somebody will slip through the cracks that could help. With Darnold and Corral on the IR we might need to see who comes available. Kicker is the main priority.
