If a QB isn’t there at 8... Slater is your pick
mickeye76 replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Fixing oline in off season. If the QB of preference is gone at 8 we trade back. Not too far 12-18 is prime. Then draft Alex Leatherwood. Bama beast. Championship pedigree. Outland trophy winning left tackle. Second round target is Creed Humphrey Oklahoma center who has been in the middle of a innovative offense for years. Top center. If Creed gets swiped earlier than our second round pick (which is very likely) Go defense. Later in draft we keep an eye on guys like Trey Smith, Robert Jones, Adrian Ealy, Jackson Carman etc. Big swing tackles that could play a road grading right guard too. In free agency I have three targets. 1. Pat Elflein - third rounder out Ohio State. Started 44 games at all three interior positions. So Jack of all trades but could start at Center or left guard. 2. Brian Winters - third round out of Kent State. Played on Jets for years poor guy. But solid veteran to compete with a rookie right guard. 3. Sam Tevi - late round pick by chargers but despite that has started lots on the left side. Gritty competitor with a chip on his shoulder. Ideal to push Little and Leatherwood. If we miss out on Creed I would just wait yet another year for center. Not a fan of many of the other centers. Projected lineup. LT - Leatherwood, Levi, Little LG - Daley, Elflien C - Paradis, Elflien RG - Rookie, Winters RT - Moton, Daley, -
Have hopped off the brown train. That sounds weird. But still like Leatherwood. Boo all round I'm on the Oklahoma oline bandwagon give me Creed and Adrian

Lance is boom or bust. It's a gamble. Him and Fields worry me.
-
No discussion. That would be a travesty. I don't see it taysom hill does the same as cam would in that offense.
-
I agree 10 to 15 is a preferable range for a trade down. 25 is a bit further down than I like. The offensive tackles and corners gonna be picked over pretty well by then.
-
I agree with the original post. If we miss out on top tier qb, a trade back has merit. That 33rd pick has value. It's practically a 1st. We would still be in the meat of the draft at 25 and 33. That 45 pick is not to bad as well. The con to this is we would be missing out on the cream of the crop and would need our talent evaluators to hit on some sleepers. The pro is I trust the new staff to find some gems, if it was hurney still I'd be wary of trading down. Hurney hit in the top ten cause it was easier.

The Lone Ranger: What to do with Matt Paradis?
mickeye76 replied to WarPanthers89's topic in Carolina Panthers
Serviceable but draft one of them new breed big country centers that can play some guard too. Then we replace him next year or even this year if the rookie shows out. -
Crazy predictions of how this QB carousel could play out. First the belle of the ball. Deshaun Watson will be traded to the NY Jets. Darnold, a 2022 1st round, 2023 1st round and the 23rd pick this year. Next the jaguars take Lawrence. Atlanta takes Wilson at 4. Detroit trades Stafford to the 49ers for Jimmy g, the 2021 43rd pick and a 2023 3rd round pick. That does not stop them from taking Justin Fields at 7 in the draft though. The Patriots sign Fitzpatrick in the off season and draft a young QB none of us were talking bout in a late round. Rivers, Brees, and yes Cam retire. Dak gets franchise tagged. Goff and Wentz stick around for a bit longer. The Colts sign Mitch Trubisky in free agency on a prove it deal. Las Vegas catches a falling star in Trey Lance at 17. The Redskins draft Mac Jones at 19. Rodgers quits bitching after a new contract. Bears are stuck with foles and his ridiculous contract. Last but most sadly for some of y'all the Panthers keep TB for one more year and draft Jamie Newman as a developmental guy. I know I likely missed some folks but...

Newman has been my dark horse mid round pick for a minute. He had some flashes at Wake and I thought he would have killed it at Georgia. He torpedoed his stock by opting out.

NO TO WATSON, NO TO STAFFORD.... YOU WIN THROUGH THE DRAFT
mickeye76 replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Or we can play the Buccaneers route build a team and then become a destination for a disgruntled QB. Watson and Stafford will have some say in where they go and we are not built to win just by adding a QB. Broncos did the same thing with Manning. The defense was the MVP for that team. Long game y'all. One more off season and draft. Let 2022 come around and once again some QB will decide they are unhappy somewhere and here we are. -
As some have said yes QB is a priority if the opportunity presents itself. Whether by trading up for the target or by trading for a disgruntled veteran. But also I don't agree with the original post that the off season is a bust without a QB this year. Give me a free agency with Moton resigned, a under the radar tight end like mo-allie cox, a potential shut down corner like shaquill Griffin and stealing away john Johnson III for safety and I'm happy. Pair that with draft that fills holes at middle linebacker, lt, and DT I'm good. Patience is a virtue. I have faith in our coaching and f.o. We are also gonna have a really good cap situation in 2022 so... Three year plan. I give coaches a three year window before I get too critical
-
They got the draft capitol and the cap room to improve real quick.
-
His trade price will be higher than many of y'all are thinking. Likely a 1st.
-
The Jets can completely revamp their offense this off season. Watson, Javonte Williams, Terrence Marshall Jr, Kyle Pitts and maybe Curtis Samuel in free agency.
-
Two ways I want to take advantage of this high pick. A. Take bpa at 8. Whether it's Parsons, Farley, Surtain or a wild card QB like Lance. B. Trade down adding picks for the future and a more bountiful draft. I do not want to use it and a kings ransom of future picks or current players to add one player.
-
Any conversation that includes vernon Butler as part of a "best case scenario" is flawed. Great players can be picked anywhere in the draft. Having a pick between 25 and 32 does not equate to lesser talent. It often does mean lesser positional value. Devil's advocate scenerio. Pick 8 in 2021. Shutdown corner or gamebreaking new breed MLB that replaces luke. I.e. Surtain or Parsons. Pick 19 in 2022. A left tackle or wr overlooked that becomes class of draft like wirfs or Justin Jefferson this past year. Pick 28 in 2023. Overlooked and underappreciated QB slips in draft and turns out to be MVP type. Like Lamar Jackson. Just saying. Yeah I get it watson is a winning lottery ticket but what if your trading a one time payoff for three winners that could result in a Dynasty.

People getting all hot and bothered thinking we got a inside track to Deshaun now. What if we are just laying the groundwork and foundation for a rookie qb to succeed. Skip the expensive trade for watson. Forget about trading into the top 5 to take a QB. What if instead we draft some oline help, maybe a tight end and build ob a emerging defense? Crazy I know.
-
Nope. Not on board. This is a knee jerk reaction from folks wanting to win now. We are rebuilding. Yes watson is light years better than teddy. If we had watson this year we would have won four more games maybe 5. But seriously do ya think the team would be able to win many playoff games. Give up three 1st round picks to be a early out in the playoffs. We are not ready yet. We are not one player away. Trust the process give it three good drafts and offseasons and we will build a jugganaut. Also I don't want that contract. A rookie QB under a rookie contract gives the flexibility to add quality free agents and resign players we want to keep. The watson trade is a shortsighted pipe dream. Miami and NY have so much more ammo to bring him in.
