A trade down where we can address the oline is a option I would like to see. A for instance would be Jacksonville wanting to trade up to 8 for 25 and 33. Then we take a combo of a center and left tackle. Liam Eichenberg and Creed Humphrey. Alex Leatherwood and Josh Myers. Tevin Jenkins and Landon Dickerson. Much like the secondary the oline needs an injection of youth.

Vince Young minus the head case issues = solid top 10 QB. Also fields is faster and more accurate. The comparison is fair but simultaneously extremely unfair. It's a worse case scenerio. As far as I'm concerned I have not bought into the one year wunderkids that are Wilson and Lance. Fields is the most proven compared to Wilson and Lance. Played against Jones and Lawrence and held his own. You don't win them all against top competition but the key is to compete. Wilson and Lance have not competed against the best.

Newman to me is the wild card. Mills and Mond are the mid round developmental hail marys but Newman could be the Russell Wilson surprise star. Trask stinks of midround talent who bounces around the league and never sticks anywhere. Not a bad gig if you can get it. Big prototype QB will always get a job but average arm talent and a complete non factor outside the pocket has a limited shelf life in the modern NFL.

Sorry I worry Slater's average height and length will make him a guard in the NFL. He obviously proved himself at left tackle in college but that was at Northwestern. Given the choice between Darrisaw, Eichenberg and Leatherwood or Slater I am taking one of the guys who played against the elites passrushers. It's the same reason Dillon Radunz is not high on my radar. Sorry I know they have talent and could transcend the lower level of competition but the learning curve could also be too steep. Chinn did the same last year proving he belonged but for every Chinn there are so many examples of big fish in little ponds who encounter the sharks of the NFL and are devoured.

1. Lawrence it's a given. 2. Wilson has been successfully hyped. 3. Fields is the best QB after Lawrence. 4. Lance cause despite Pitts talent. Planning for a team after Ryan is a thing 5. Sewell cause if they want a wr they can get one in the second. Marshall, Moore and Bateman could be there. Tackles in the second are.... 6. Chase the dream. Giving Hurts a star WR will help him develop. 7. Pitts cause this is his prime spot. Not too high not too low. Giving the QB this target is gonna make him look better. The trade needs to be seen as a win. 8. Here we are. Lots of options when you take QB off the table. My likely unpopular choices are Jaycee Horn and Christian Darrisaw. Horn could become the star corner of the draft over even Surtain. Darrisaw reminds me of Moton. Overlooked solid player that brings his lunchpail. The drop off at corner and tackle is steep. I like Leatherwood, Eichenberg and others but the ability to draft them falls as others can reach and get them at a bargain. Waiting could cause us to miss. Same situation with corner the group is deep but the top three are much better than the next five. Corners and tackles ( especially tackles capable of playing on the left and corners that can play on the outside ) will be in high demand. So... Likely the choice is a calculated risk in the first and a full on all in gamble in the second at these prime positions. Unfortunately we may have to wait on a QB.

QB comparisons. Lawrence - Elway / Herbert Fields - Watson / Dak Wilson - Mayfield / Manziel Lance - Cam / Bortles Jones - Ryan / Goff This is not a indication of floor or ceiling cause I'm not saying Wilson could be the shidshow that is johnny football. It's only a comparison. Manziel with a fighting spirit and minus the party boy work ethic could have been special. As far as love hate. I personally Love - Fields Crush - Wilson Like - Lance Settle could one day hate - Jones Love and like are possible. The crush is very unlikely and if we settle we only hurt ourselves.

My point about over valuing Teddy was we were hoping for the one the Saints got for a couple games. Also the familiarity with the system and his potential as a mentor for the eventual successor all looked good on paper. For whatever reason ( the oline allowing early pressure, the loss of CMC) that plan is scrapped. So I vote gunslinger. Different route. The fact we went after Stafford and Watson makes me think I'm not the only one.
-
This topic made me think about KC. Alex Smith is a consummate game manager. Move the sticks consistently and take calculated risk shots downfield. Then Mahommes came to town spurs jangling. Patrick is a gunslinger. In his prime Stafford with Megatron helping him out was a big armed gunslinger. Goff at his best seems to be a efficient game manager. It's funny that LA and Detroit essentially swapped styles of QB. Me personally after a year of TB and years of Ron/ Shula vanilla old school offense give me that gunslinger. Burrow and Brady lit the college ranks up not too long ago. Even with TB's limitations three 1000 yrd receivers was a good sign. Let Brady and Thule find their guy. Bridgewater has the intangibles and has NFL talent but he also should be a cautionary tale of over valuing the "game manager".

Smith was a inspiring story. Always liked him and thought he got a raw deal in San Fran but... How does he fit into the plan? Teddy is under contract and despite all the hate fits as a backup and mentor to a rookie QB.

49ers just traded to possibly get....Mac Jones

1. Lawrence 2. Wilson 3. Fields 4. Lance 5. Sewell 6. Chase 7. Parsons 8. ??? -
what about Davis mills in the third? Just saying. Developmental guy. Or is it a throwaway pick. Maybe we need to build the team a bit before throwing a rookie savior to the wolves.
-
If leatherwood makes it to our pick I would do it. Eichenberg, Jackson Carman and Alaric Jackson are guys I like too.
-
No actually the best idea is trading up with the Jets or dolphins and taking our future QB. Whether that's Wilson or Fields. Or crazy thought take BPA at 8 or trade up for Sewell and build the oline for a future QB.
-
Im just glad half of y'all armchair G.M's did not get your way. We would have ended up with this PR nightmare and be hamstrung for the next three drafts. You know who you are.

Hype is sometimes warranted. In the case of Pitts it is. That said two things need to be kept in mind to temper expectations. A. Positional value. Even in the new school NFL a first round tight end is a stretch. B. Florida's offense ran through Pitts and trask with some Toney dashed in. In our offense the production would be capped by Bridgewater and that CMC and Moore are the primary guys. You don't draft a guy in the top 10 picks to be just another target. If Pitts makes sense for that reason so should Devonta Smith, Chase or Waddle.
-
Pitts going top 15 will be a mistake. He is a uber athletic big WR/TE. He has rare talent but it's not like we have not seen this before. Recently Mike Gesicki out of Penn St. ran a 4.55 official at the combine. Leaped out of the building and put up 20+ reps on the bench. He was taken in the second round. Pitts had more college production but comparing raw upside they similar. Bottom of the first into top of the second is Pitts actual value. Pro day numbers are notorious for being inflated. In all honesty I would take a chance on baby gronk out of yep Penn st at a discount over Pitts.
-
Funny enough these were positions we needed going into free agency and the draft. We still need them. LT, QB, RG, CB, FS and DT are still needs. Do like the Perryman, Fox and Reddick pickups though. I think we all can see who the target positions in the draft are.
-
Speaking of Michigan. I like Chris Evans. He is gonna make some team very happy. As far as gurley goes I'd still like to kick the tires on him.
-
This would be our fournette pickup. To mirror what Tampa did last year. Buy low on a really athletic guy who has a little wear and tear on him. Gurley and McCaffrey would be a dream backfield.

LaMelo Out For The Rest Of The Season - Fractured Wrist

We had a chance at the eighth seed right? Straight up snake bitten franchise. -
Carson and CMC? Not a Watson trade fanboy but.... If we were going hard on Carson I don't think it was as a complementary piece to Christian.
-
Unless the Falcons want to pull a Green Bay or Kansas City and replace their veteran with the future. 1. Lawrence 2. Wilson 3. Powell 4. Fields Might as well stay at 8
-
Was this guy snubbed for the PRO bowl? I can't remember. From what I remember he had a remarkable season. I think a trade down in the second would be helpful to fill some needs. Trade up for a QB in the first and then stretch the second with tackle, corner and safety being targets.
-
Fuller is too similar to Robby imo. I know we had issues in past year trying to cater to Cam with big slow wr's but I think a end zone threat contested catch guy would complement existing guys. Another option would be a jack of all trades gadget guy.

Yea this has torpedoed the hopes and pipe dream some had of trading for Watson. I for one am glad. Too expensive in the long run. I'd rather trade up with Miami and take a rookie. Let's compare trade options. A. Swap 1st this year. 1st and 2nd next year. Get whoever the Jets don't take. Fields, Lance or Wilson. B. Trade our 1st for the next three years. Trade YGM and Donte Jackson. And help pay Watson's lawyer bills and spend every press conference defending him.
