Looking at Success or Failure of top 10 to 12 QBs since 2000
mickeye76 replied to Hoenheim's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't read so good. Lol. I was thinking something was off cause I knew there is always lots of qbs taken in first. Then there was the year Alex Smith went early and Rodgers chilled in the green room so... He kinda lost me with his rankings. As soon as he said Vick was great. I mean what did he really do? He terrorised us obviously and gave ATL fans something to be excited bout but I never liked him. Wrong team. Cam was a TD machine and ran the ball just as well. Sure ATL fans would only call Cam good. -
Looking at Success or Failure of top 10 to 12 QBs since 2000

I was skeptical that 2000 had no QB taken in first round. So quick Google search and Chad Pennington. Who despite a tough career did play very well for the Jets resulting in playoffs and decent stats. Hell I'd take him over Vick. Chad was accurate and a decent human being. Vick was on a rival team so my take will always be "yeah he can run and he's good but fug that dog killin pos." -
Mel Kiper has 5 corners taken in 1st round. That's bad news for us at 39. I was hoping for a guy there. Might have to wait and get a developmental guy we hope is better than CJ Henderson. Kipers a tool but his most recent mock looks pretty accurate to what could happen. Even a blind squirrel gets a nut every now than then. I could see a ILB or Rusher there at 39 if Corners are picked over.

Good thing he likely a RG till Corbett come back. Always liked Daley. Decent OL guy. Better suited to guard though.

Panthers still have $23.5M in cap space
mickeye76 replied to neverlosethefeeling's topic in Carolina Panthers
That is a possibility. I think we try and see how his injury rehabs. We still need to add a corner or two. -

Besides QB, what do y'all think are out biggest draft needs?
mickeye76 replied to Panthero's topic in 2023 NFL Draft
I agree on everything but RB and TE. The added FA's make those less important. I would say CB should replace those. Also a single utility OL guy who can fill multiple spots in a pinch consolidates those two. So in my opinion WR, ILB, CB, OL and 5 tech. Just trimmed it to 5 needs. Something is gonna have to give cause we are limited by number of picks and that 1ST is earmarked for one position. -
Exciting stuff. A speed guy is missing like you said. Early in the process I like Hyatt but he does seem like a one trick pony. I very good trick but separation will not be as easy against an NFL caliber press. I'm down for Downs. Mims Jr also looked like lightning at the combine. Chark is also a possibility in FA. That gives the QB two vet WR's, an all around RB and possibly the best TE we have had in ages. Hopefully Tremble, TMJ, and Shenault improve exponentially with better coaching, vet leadership, and a young QB.

Big Board & Pick 39: Offensive Skill Player Rankings

The wide receiver room is better than the cornerback room. We have enough to field a team. I don't know if that's true at corner. -
Big Board & Pick 39: Offensive Skill Player Rankings
mickeye76 replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
With all this talk of the "sexy" pick of a WR at 39 or trading for Nuke finally someone realized the corners need help too. It's Horn pretty much by himself. Donte Jackson might not be healthy by start of season or unfortunately ever be the same player. CJ is a 4th at best and special teamer. SO put away the dreams of fixing the offense in one off-season and let's all remember that we have a 3-4 transition to work through and our oline depth neeeds help too. Cade Mays seems like a gamer but after that what we got? The Arbys package on the oline doesn't need to go away completely so we need more beef. I seen someone else bring this up. But I say we trade tow from 39 and gain another 3rd. From 45 to 65 is prime diamond in the rough territory. -
If we have monies left. Parris and Mack are my picks in FA. Parris is a speedster and Mack is a big possession guy. Get both if possible. TMJ, Parris and Mack as the top three guys then Shi and Shenault being the utility guys and gadgets. Not a fan of drafting a guy high this year. 39 is high. Not a fan of trading for nuke or any of the Broncos flotsam jetsam. Rather take a corner or inside linebacker at 39. Much like everyone's obsession with drafting tight end Super early wide receiver is not a value pick in this draft. Mims and flowers are my favorites but between strong combines and people digging into tape they might be out of reach even at 39. Wait till next year's draft and free agency and see who we can add this evolving offense.

I see what you did there. Lol. Funny thing as much as I have faith in coaching getting the best out of prospects. I do not have the same faith that all prospects are teachable they are coaches not miracle workers. CJ seems a better bet than AR for developing. Young is not a finished product either. He is the one that our stellar coaching staff can give an advanced playbook and game plan and he can digest it quickly and run with it. No dumbing down. I could see you being right that the staff are betting on a ceiling. AR is that guy with a stratosphere ceiling but the floor dude. I trust the staff. That said if we pass on Young and Stround for the lottery ticket and either or both become superstars we will be forever seen as the ones who overthunk it. K.I.S.S. method wins often. Keep it simple stupid. Pick the best.
-
Yeah your right Bama played a bunch of scrubs at Dline. Y'all need to stop discrediting Young with such flimsy excuses. He did it against the best. CJ gonna be good too I bet but I could see him as just a better version of Jared Goff or Carson Wentz. Just saying.

Let's not get too cute. I don't want to finesse ourselves out of a prime situation. Fug Indy and Houston. They get our scraps. Now that 39th pick we were able to keep despite the trade up that's open for business. Moving down to like 40 something and gaining another 3rd rounder may be the play. This is a talented class. I say take two top 60 players in place of that 39th pick. This move would be easier if we can sign a vet WR and TE obviously. Get Gesicki and Parris then use a trade to build the 3-4.

Oops reading comprehension can be tough. I had two option that are straight up free agents. Personally I like two guys. Mack Hollins. Played his college ball at UNC. Big possession guy. Flashed a bit when Devante was not healthy in Vegas. Parris Campbell. Not the sum of his parts yet. Had some decent games in Indy. Familiar with what our new offense might look like. As far as trade guys Courland Sutton is being shopped. I like him. Could be our new number 1 WR.

Quick hips. Bet he real adept at fetch.

It's not the size of the dog in a fight, it's the size of the fight in the DOG. Bob Sanders, Mike Singletary, Robert Mathis, Brian Burns, Sam Mills, Aaron Donald, Barry Sanders, Wes Welker, Tyrann Mathieu, Thomas Davis, Shaq Thompson, Steve Smith Sr, Darren Sproles and many more were likely told at some point "Your too small for NFL" I'm officially on the Bryce Young wagon. There is more to the game than measurables. JaWarus Russell was a prototype size QB with a "cannon" look up combine warriors. Look up draft busts who were considered prototypes. I'm not saying I don't like CJ Stround. I will be excited bout that pick too. BUT if it's levis or AR I will be worried bout our future.
-
No offense. Maybe too much. But NO defense. I get it but this corner and linebacker class too good and deep to not dive in.
-
I'll tell ya secret, core strength and functional strength for tasks is different than weight room. A 190 pound QB with a brain and good coaching can compete with a "adonis" on the field. Ever heard the phrase looks like Tarzan plays like Jane. Coaches know it. Combine warriors and gold medal winning underwear Olympics guys do happen. The mental game is part of the equation. Otherwise Jake Locker and Blaine Gabbery would still be playing QB somewhere.
-
Ludicrous. Comparing levis and Young. Put young on Kentucky he not winning national titles or Heisman maybe but he making em look good. Put Levis on Bama he loses the starting job to a red shirt. I'm saying it. His decision making is not there. Flat out. Saban wants safe plays. Will is so raw after 5 years you have to doubt his maturity or game acumen. Ludicrous to compare the fourth best QB with the top QB of the draft.
-
But can he do the smart nuances of the position? Can he read the whole field? What big situations has he played in like playoffs or championship games? Where is the production compared to his "out of this world" and rare physical talents? Lastly what is the longevity of that running style QB compared to a player that works the pocket and looks down field instead of trying to be "superman" sorry cam?

So then, we’ve got a WR corps to build. What do y’all got?

Like a couple people said Parris Campbell is a guy is like to see. Familiarity with staff and plays a physical brand of football similar to DJ. Also Mack Hollins had some flashes in Vegas. Then that 39th pick could be prime time for WR. I mean how many 1st round WR's do you think their are? Somebody will be there at the top of the 2nd to help. Lastly sign Gesicki. I like the TE class too so we are building it.
