Panthers sign recently unretired NT John Penisini

Another sneaky pick up. If he is healthy and ready to go could give us nice minutes rotating in behind Tuttle. Always bet on the big Islanders. They built different. -
Which player will benefit the most in the 3-4 Defense
mickeye76 replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
Brown, Chinn, and Burns are the obvious answers. But three players i expect to thrive with the new coach are Barno, Horn and Luvu. Luvu and Horn are smart instinctive players who should kill it this year. Barno is similar to Burns as a rookie undersized( for a 4-3) but a fast and dangerous pass rusher. If we can add in upcoming years another young corner, ILB, NT and another 3-4 DE the defense is pretty much set up to be a dynasty. Scary thing is with some luck and skill we could do most of that this year. Within two offseasons this defense will be nasty. -
Hell of a rollercoaster ride. At 9 I had resigned myself to not getting a qb. Maybe Hooker at 39 or that 60 something pick we had. The we went big and moved up. At that point I was all about Young. Just seasoned and NFL ready I thought. But the combine happened and Stround and AR looked so good in different ways and have leaned into Stround since then. Levis was never on my radar except if we had stayed at 9 and he slipped or if we had just traded up with Arizona. I'm now firmly on the Stround bandwagon. He seems like a Reich guy. AR is still a wildcard but I really think he should have stayed in school one more year and built on his resume a bit. He did that through the combine obviously but I would like more tape and some bigger wins.

The new coach in houston and their upcoming draft class could turn it around but I wouldn't worry their FO will end up firing Demarco too early and crap the bed.

yep. Reminds me of a boy named SUE by Johnny cash. It's a good thing he like 6'4" and right at 300lbs.

Due diligence. Just doing the homework. You meet someone one day briefly and make first impressions. Second time and spend more time you can form a better all around view of them.

A CASE FOR DRAFTING HERBERT I MEAN LEVIS
mickeye76 replied to pantherpain's topic in Carolina Panthers
Because of the annual hype train that is a QB class. prospects get pushed to the moon. AR and Levis are way too raw and unproven to be expected to start right away. That is how you end up with Malik and Lance situations. Josh Allen was a anomaly. Buffalo coaches knew what to do with him. Basically call plays like they still had Cam. Josh also had that IT factor. He wanted to be the best. I think AR has a similar rare blend of talent and desire to excel. Levis seems like a Paxton Lynch, Drew Lock, Bortles and yes Darnold. He is gonna need some really good coaching and luck to earn his draft position -
A CASE FOR DRAFTING HERBERT I MEAN LEVIS
mickeye76 replied to pantherpain's topic in Carolina Panthers
Some people just want to watch the world burn. I wanted Herbert that year. He had shown a poise and leadership at Oregon that Levis clearly doesn't. Sorry nothing bout the two mesh as similar to me. Maybe arm strength but Herbert is not the same as Mayo. -
We really don't NEED a WR or TE at 39. Whoaa cam has a fixation on skill positions. Hurst,Thielen, Chark and TMJ will be fine.

Im all in on defense at 39. I think there are way more options if Corner, ILB or De/OLB are the targets. I just don't see the flexibility when folks are all in on offense. Tight end and WR this year just aren't deep and talented enough. I'm not sold on Johnston or JSN like everyone else. I do like Zay and Addison but they are 1st rounders not likely to fall to far. I see the top 4 WR's all going in the 1st. Mims had a nice combine and may sneak into the top of the 2nd but who is the target after the top picks of the half litter are claimed? Tank Dell or Josh Downs? That's the runts of the litter. Tight ends are even more top heavy. You got the high floor ready guy Mayer (who still won't likely hit that level his rookie season) then you got the high ceiling gambles Kincaid and Bama kid. Bad news for us all three of these guys are targets for teams picking in the latter 1st who can afford gambling on a luxury pick. Who does that leave us with? Even if seven corners are taken in the 1st we could have targets that can help us year one. Take a break from researching the skill guys and stop sleeping on this corner class.

Yep. And what a free agency it was. Wow. This off season was epic. Funny thing we still only getting A- and B+ grades. Lol. I give it A+ now we just gotta nail the draft.

Dolphins WR Cedric Wilson on the trading block
mickeye76 replied to musicman's topic in Carolina Panthers
The top young guys in this draft are all speed and slot guys. If we get a WR in the draft he needs to earn that spot and return kicks. The later rounds are fine for that kind of contributor. A developmental TE, WR that can push Shi and Shenault and a RB to spell Miles and Chubba are all available on the tail end of the draft. Corners, ILB and Edge are gonna go fast we can't wait around for those. -
Panthers still have $23.5M in cap space
mickeye76 replied to neverlosethefeeling's topic in Carolina Panthers
Edge and Corner are also deep this year. As you said so is TE. I'm not against taking a TE later in the draft. I actually really like Schoonmaker, Kraft and Kunz. But not till the late 3rd or even the 4th. I feel similarly bout all the skill positions but QB. That is a shallow pool I'm not diving in. After like 5 guys it gets sparse. Luckily we have the 1st so... RB, WR and TE are spots we can explore later in the draft but they do not trump the other needs on defense. -

Still banging the drum for a tight end I see. Just for arguments sake who do you see as a Kelce or Little level player. Mayer? His best case scenario is Jason Witten. The big kid from Bama? He could end up just like OJ Howard. He can block but his receiving skill is underdeveloped. Kincaid? He is Gesicki all over again and a liability at blocking. If there is a Kittle or Kelce they going in the 1st. It's a crowded market of teams needing a tight end and not enough high tier guys to go around. Corner,Edge and ILB are three positions we need more than a TE to push Ian and Tremble out. -
DJ Chark recently underwent ankle surgery?
mickeye76 replied to CamWhoaaCam's topic in Carolina Panthers
The let's trade for a WR and let's trade up for Jaxton or let's draft a WR at 39 folks are hard at work to make this fantasy a reality. We rolling with what we got. It's a lame WR class and to be honest the free agency ain't hitting on much either. Hyatt one trick pony. Downs exciting yep but slot guy we got Theilen. Nuke, Juedy and Cortland NOT worth a basically 1st round that is 39. There are maybe three WR's worthy of a first round pick then the talent jumps off a cliff. If Chark was a healthy 22 year old he is in the conversation as one of those top three guys. Sorry not sorry. I like Zay, I like Addison, I get the CJ to Jaxton chemistry but where oh where is that transcendental WR that becomes numero uno overnight? The TCU guy? I kinda can see the hype on the TE class but ya know what it's still a luxury we can't afford right now while we try and field a 3-4 defense for the foreseeable future. Give it a rest guys. The offense will be light years better than we have had for years. It's not a one year rebuild. It's not a Jay-Z rebuild either. We can get this done in a quickness but let's not get shortsighted. -
-
You lost me saying CJ Henderson and Taylor are viable corners. Theilen, Charm and Hurst are not bandaids they are upgrades that give us time to develop Tremble and TMJ. I also think Shenault and Shi are not lost causes many do. Im hoping Brandon Smith develops but the linebacker group is weak. Donte's bread and butter has always been his speed but after that ACL that might be just bread. Shaq is great but he needs a young buck to run with. Agree to disagree but flashy picks like TE when you have a young guy already there to develop behind a vet is a luxury. Developing new starters at weak depth like our linebackers and Corners is how you build a defense that can dominate. Chinn at linebacker would give us two smallish guys. We need to try and get that Micah Parsons new school oversized type. Drew Carter and Jack Campbell are those types. Giving Horn a guy across from him for the long haul also builds the future. I like Two tight end set too but I also want to see some usage and distribution of the ball at WR and RB. I mean how many targets do you think there are to go around? Hurst,Thielen, Chark, and TMJ are gonna be the primary guys after that let Tremble, Shi, Shenault get in on the action and see what we got with them. I've seen CJ and Taylor get playing time and honestly they might need to be regulated to less.
-
I'm with ya. I think your 2c is worth more. I'll add my penny thought. Our offense is going to develop so quickly with better coaching and playcalling. Miles and Hurst additions are being so underrated. Lots of folks have a hard on for shiny new toys at TE and WR in the draft but I actually have some faith TMJ and Tremble will improve with more opportunity and a consistent playmaker at QB. I wanted Gibbs or Robinson till we signed Miles. I adapted. Hurst and Chark pick ups are similar cause they made upgrades in the draft a luxury. Let's get the pieces to run this aggressive fast and dangerous 3-4 that most of the league have adopted. We need to start grooming eventual successors for Shaq and Jackson. So corner and ILB are actually more important to me. Just my big fat nickle worth. Give me a corner across from Horn and a bruiser ILB please over a TE or WR. The trade for numero uno was the "sexy" part of the draft. I want a swing tackle that can eventually replace Moton if need be that can play guard this year. It's a nice skill position draft but Linebackers, Edge, DL and Corners are deep and can be productive quick.
-
That's my favorite mock simulator but it has some guys underrated after the combine. Nolan is one for sure. Flowers, Mazi Smith, Deonte Banks and Forbes are all usually available at 39. I don't think they will in reality. BJ, Carter, and Jack Campbell have slowly became my favorites cause they may actually make it to us.

Good Question.. What type of edge do you want..
mickeye76 replied to Sub Zero's topic in Carolina Panthers
Lots of options at DL and Edge. Y'all have touched on a few. Guys I have not heard mentioned much is a guy named Ya ya. Had a nice combine. I like Barno alot to thrive in a 3-4. Him and Burns is gonna be a fast aggressive pass rush. We could add a guy like YAYA to the rotation. His combine was good but I don't think he moved out of reach. Mike Morris out of Michigan is a bruiser who could get reps at DE. That 39th pick is gonna be prime time for edge or DE I think. I'm looking forward to seeing who Envero likes. I'm hoping to see Jack Campbell's name called by us too. Jack and Shaq in the middle would be pretty awesome. I think Luvu could play inside or outside as a situational Blitzer. I also have high hopes for Barno that speed is on par with Will McDonald. I like Derrick Hall to but he also reminds me someone we already have on the roster. He reminds me of Haynes. So I don't want guys too comparable to who we already got. Someone unique with traits we might be missing is the goal. -
Other NFL Fans are Still Dismissing the Panthers Offseason Moves?
mickeye76 replied to Hoenheim's topic in Carolina Panthers
Thank you. Bears have nor been relevant since the rap video with Jim McMahon. Just saying. For a young franchise we did good till we didn't. Thanks Rhule and the latter years of Ron running two yes two Superstars into the ground to be middle of road average. Bears are trash. Monsters of the Midway is but a distant memory. That said they trending up. But so are we. Thanks bears for that top pick. -
This. I want a edge, ILB or corner. If we could trade down and still stay in the top 48 and add a third it could fill two position instead of just one.
-
Just a 25 year old guy who has run a 4.3 and has size. Not like the midget group of WRs in this draft. LSU is WRU. So many nice receivers come out of there. Chark is another one. Some injury risk but with TMJ, DJ, Miles, HH and Theilen we got all the pieces but one for the best offense we have fielded in years.
-
We are setting it up to actually go BPA at 39. I like it. I'm hoping a CB falls if not a top edge/OLB or ILB is a possibility. We end up with combo of Stround/young then a Jack Campbell/ Forbes im ecstatic.
