Average Gain from Big FA Spending Sprees? 0 Wins
GoobyPls replied to UNCrules2187's topic in Carolina Panthers
Meh I guess Oher is an upgrade over Bell, buts its like replacing something terrible with something mediocre, Mitchell was basically a product of Rivera Even with Ginn here our special teams wasn't that good, our offense was also struggling with him getting reps All I know is guys like Shorts and Washington would have been perfect here and cheap at the same time, I think both would have helped Cam more than what Ginn can. And that whole familiarity thing did play a part, but what got the offense clicking was the fact that they were using Cam like a running back (which is can't be done for a whole season) and Stewart started producing the last part of the season. Statistically speaking the passing game stayed the same. -

I don't think we can fill our biggest off season needs by bringing in Oher and Ginn. Oher has been under performing for 2 straight seasons and this is the same Ginn that had drop issues in Carolina, the same Ginn who got beat out by a rookie. I mean Cecil Shorts just signed for 3 million a year, IMO he would be a better option than Ginn, same goes for Nate Washington who I doubt will be asking for a lot. -

Yep one move 4 years ago = active Its also makes me wonder why we haven't been more active in the trading block, we got Greg Olsen by a trade why not try another trade? -

Trades are basically part of free agency And what does it matter that all of them weren't signed in the same off season? If anything that means those teams are constantly going after FA every off season. -

What is there to grasp? Bad teams do overpay for free agents like the raiders and redskins. That doesn't mean SB winning teams don't spend in free agency Let me guess your one of those lets build strictly through the draft guys? -

Patriots - Browner, Revis, Amendola, Blount Seahawks - Avril, Bennett, Harvin, Lynch Ravens - Boldin, Jones, McKinney, Pollard SB winning teams seem to spend on free agency. -
Damn I wanted Shorts, Nate Washington is still out there

Isn't this the guy who gave Trent Richardson the highlight of his career?

Actually their isn't anything you can rebuttal at this point, all you do is keep bringing up the same things you have been saying since you first commented. I'm the kid, yet your the one who started with the sarcasm, your the one trying to make it seem like theirs nothing wrong with this team. It's like your living in a fantasy land But that's what boys do..... -

I can read you like a book, your a yes-man, and you were a yes-man for Hurney. You were one of those people that by November was throwing Cam and Rivera under the bus to protect Gettleman. Your probably not even a man more like a yes boy I knew who Remmers and Philly were, but unlike you who apparently knows more than our head coach didn't know they should be penciled in as day 1 starters. And like I mentioned last time even with all those guys you keep bringing up OUR OFFENSE STILL STRUGGLED. It's not all about money with Cam, maybe has a little thing called pride, maybe he's tired of losing, maybe he's tired of being the most hit QB in the league and having WR that can't get open. I hope they do work out a deal before next off season, cause that insures me Cam's willing to stay in this incompetent mess we call an offense. But if we don't get a deal by this time next year, you better take off your Gettleman glasses boy, and see this isn't about money this is about a QB being fed up about being completely black listed. No front office is stupid enough to keep a disgruntled QB. -

A great defense can only take you so far just ask the jets, year after year it was always about defense, how many SB did they win? They already ruined two young QB's. That's what you want? Another 7-81 season, another year were our offense looks inept? So many people not just panthers fans are sitting back and saying WTF are they doing with Cam? What kind franchise expects a QB to produce with UDFA and veterans no other team wants? If Cam is our franchise QB, why don't we start building around him? -

So you were there the whole off season, seeing how every single player performed? since you apparently knew who to start from day 1, you should be a NFL coach. And judging how someone does during training camp or even the preseason isn't a smart idea. All I heard this off season was about how Berson was some legit weapon, come the real games he sucks. To add to that point even with Remmers, Philly and Norwell starting our offense still was mediocre AT BEST That "choice" was more of a dire need that every single draft analyst and their mother saw coming from a mile away, and like I keep saying that was the FIRST time they draft a WR in the first 2 rounds since Cam has been drafted. And please don't bring up the running backs we drafted your making a fool out of yourself and Gettleman. Like the main point of the thread is, Cam not signing here has basically nothing do with money IMO, it has to do with the fact we keep low balling him, do to the fact every other young QB are getting weapons, due to the fact other teams are willing to risk a little bit of there future to help there QB's NOW. While the panthers are content with drafting receivers and hope they turn out to be studs and signing these cheap free agent hoping they contribute. And you wanting to tag a QB who doesn't want to be here is beyond idiotic, a QB is suppose to be the leader/captain of the team. He can't lead a team if he doesn't want to be here to start with. -

Why do you keep trying to twist my words? Coming into 2014 how the HELL was Rivera suppose to know that two UFA were going to produce at decent level? And Stewart was hurt, is that Rivera fault also? Funny thing is your acting if we're giving Cam a bone. We HAD to draft a receiver with the first pick, there was no other choice. I can't even begin to imagine our offense without Kelvin. BTW that was the first time since Cam has been here that we went WR in the first 2 rounds Let me guess if Cam does leave its not Gettleman's fault Srs question are you related to Gettleman? -
No they weren't, I also forgot the colts had Donnie Avery that year, who the hell was the panthers 3rd receiver? Lets not forget the fact he had Arians also
-
All that shows is how good Cam is. No GM in his right mind would take the panthers weapons over the Colts
-
Except Luck was a rookie also, not a guy going into his 4th or 5th season, Luck also had Wayne as his one that year and now has Johnson.
-
Wayne and Smith are interchangeable, after that the gap between TY and Lafell are astronomical. Fleener and Allen are as good as Olsen and an old Shockey.

Norwell really? Really? Ron was going to hitch his wagon to an UFA? And give me one good reason why Rivera should of had total faith in starting Norman after a terrible 2013? Tell me why? Stewart? You mean the same Stewart who was injured the first half of the season? LMAO Remmers LMAO another UFA we were forced to play cause of lack of talent. And by half, you mean second half of the draft? The guys who barely ever amount to anything. Lets not forget the two running backs he drafted to help Cam. Oh wait there not even in the roster And good grief your selfish, you want to keep a player against his will here. If Cam really doesn't want to be here we should trade him, and fire Gettleman while where at it. -
So let's try and copy the only two teams in the league that don't go after free agents to validate our cheapness. Instead of trying to emulate the last 3 SB champs all who were active in free agency and FA players played a big part in winning those SB. Logic not even once

I know the coach sets the depth chart and he sets it up with the talent that is available, which wasn't a lot. The same Roman Harper that got a thread made about him every other week? the same Harper that gave up more big plays than any other DB. Its funny how you skimmed over the part where I said Rivera had no choice but to start the guys Gettleman gave him. Norman wasn't gonna be named started after a putrid 2013 season and Bene was a rookie. And like it or not Cam and Rivera have to do more with the team success than Gettleman, and has much as you dislike Rivera he's helped this team more than Gettleman that's for sure. Look here boy, I'm not one of these yes-man that's gonna agree with every single move the GM is doing. or lack of moves to put it better. Its been the same way since 2011 not a single viable receiver has been signed through free agency, no trades and we have only drafted ONE WR in the first 2 rounds since Cam has been here. Its the same old story every year and I'm tired of it. Keep thinking about the future instead of present time cause that future might not include our franchise QB.
