Carolina Panthers Mini Camp Notes - June 18
VerticalThreat replied to Jeremy Igo's topic in Carolina Panthers
My favorite point was JNo24 being a leader and helping out an UDFA rookie on OFFENSE. Man, that guy has come a long way. Talk about becoming more comfortable in his own skin, we've seen him really grow over the last few years. I hope: 1) He balls out this year. 2) We're able to make it work financially to keep him.- 23 replies

Funny, over the last year and a half I've written countless "articles" disguised as "comments" but deleted them because I figured no one wanted to read 3 paragraphs (or even 1) on what I was thinking. This would be awesome and I would jump at the opportunity. Really hope this comes to fruition.

Let's leave the nicknames to the master of nicknames himself... -
This a million times. Seriously, everyone should watch this again: http://www.panthers.com/media-vault/videos/Dave-Gettleman-NFL-Draft-Preview/d0dc7d96-dde9-46c9-9331-5ddaf4877b35 DG is a scout at heart. I believe our scouting department is finally becoming legit. We're doing the little things and our coaching staff is participating in the process.

If you're in CLT for a game or otherwise, there are a ton of breweries popping up all of which have fantastic brews of every kind. NoDa Brewing Co., Sycamore Brewing, Olde Mecklenburg Brewery, Sugar Creek Brewery, Triple C Brewery...there are more but my fingers are tired. Anyway, my point is that in the past 18 months Charlotte has seemed to have become a craft brew hotspot. Every spot has its own vibe and charm. All come equipped with first class scenery (wink, wink) and Southern hospitality. Also, a cool spot I've frequented quite a bit, that's actually about 4 blocks from the stadium, is a place called "Craft". They don't brew beer but have a ridiculous selection of regional craft beers (that rotate frequently) along with a good selection of canned and bottled brews. No BL, ML, etc will be found here. This new forum is a great idea, Jeremy. Well done. Cheers!

Why is it that some of you huddlers are fixated on..

Darius Heyward-Bey is the poster child for your argument. Also, the poster child for taking the best football player on the board in the first round not picking based on combine. Nice rant. -
We're one year from "the year" Gettleman always talks about (2016) and now we'll have 2 additional (on top of our other picks) young affordable (read cheap) players who we just need to be solid depth. We couldn't replace any of those players we lost to get these picks for the same price and we wouldn't have them for 3-4 years at that price either. Can't wait to see which one of these two picks turns into a gem.

DG has told us his formula for BPA. It's where need and value meet. One thing we as fans don't necessarily have the full understanding of is the "need" part. These guys are looking at the long term of the team as much as or more than the upcoming season. They may know of a need that we don't necessarily see. I'm glad we draft the way we are. Less opportunity to miss and waste a pick. We finally value draft picks. Remember trading draft picks for Armanti Edwards? That's how far we've come. #Gettlemagic

It's hilarious. I'll support anyone going at Marc James. -
- We have a better roster than we had two years ago. Yes, younger and cheaper. Those guys are a great baseline. If we get better players via draft or FA, then we have great depth. - Over the past two years, we have seen improvement from our coaching staff. I'm in the fence about this one. I don't know if I've seen improvement. At times it seems like they're better but for me to say that is improvement and not luck I'll need to see it consistently throughout a season and then from season to season. - Our front office has us headed in the right direction Absolutely. For years I felt like our FO was just marching to their own drum. While other franchises were participating in free agency and finding a franchise QB, we were stockpiling RBs and seemingly playing old man's football in what has become a more dynamic league. We still have the traits of a pounding football team but our FO has said publicly that we must become more athletic and faster to keep up with the league. That in itself is a step in the right direction. Nice topic, Mr. Scot.

Ask and ye shall receive. When you win, we'll send Sir Purr to your reception. -
While I believe that sounds really good, I don't see that a coaching staff doing that. Most staffs have trouble thinking through 2 minute warning situations where you have to prepare 3-4 steps ahead on the field. I can't imagine them being able to keep off the field things in mind in the biggest game of their life (excluding last year). Do I think they like RW more than Beast Mode? Probably. But I can't see them letting that cloud their judgment on what play to call.

Cam. Cammy Cam. Cameron Jerrell Newton. Why you ask? Simple. Competent quarterbacks are hard to come by. Competent quarterbacks with the current talent/skill Cam has and potential for those talents/skills to expand are impossible to come by. We have one and I wouldn't want to give that up. A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush. Give me Cam. I love what Luke Kuechly brings to our defense and organization, but I have to believe that it's easier to find linebackers than it is to find a franchise QB. One look at our history should tell you that. How many outstanding (maybe not Hall of Fame potential but really good nonetheless) linebackers has this organization had. Plenty. Now look at our QBs. How many serviceable QBs have we been able to find? One? Maybe two? I believe that's your answer. Give me Cam. Sorry Luke. Side note: with Gettlemagic, we'll be able to keep both. Our organization is changing before our eyes. Even our philosophy - youth versus veterans. We've never been this young of a team even in the beginning. It's exciting.

Better know a Prospect - Tyler Lockett

Get this guy in here in an NFL training program and he is Randall Cobb reincarnated reimagined/recreated/re-whatever, just like you said. He's got an extremely quick first step and looks to see the field which is what we need in a player that we can get the ball to on short throws and know he's going to be able to make the first man miss most of the time.
