If the Panthers feel he can be a possible franchise QB and he’s there at 8, we have to take him. Darnold panning out isn’t a sure thing by any means. Let Sam have his chance, and if he plays alright, trade one of them. Sometimes you have to throw some darts before you get your guy. Either of these kids could end up being out guy for the next decade.

With Bridgewater we were under. With Sam, I expect over. Maybe by a couple wins.
-
There’s some context to it. At the time the declined the trade, the Jets were still concerned with Wilson’s shoulder. But maybe the whole thing is false.
-
I’m not sure why it wouldn’t it be true. Plus, isn’t it nice to put to bed those silly posts by some in here saying no one wanted him? There have been quite a few reports at this point saying we weren’t his only suitors.

poo. Should have just read the last page lol

Jets were offered a first round pick for Sam prior to us grabbing him https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/sam-darnold-rumors-49ers-offered-first-rounder-to-jets-prior-to-trade-with-panthers-per-report/amp/

Panthers Well Represented at Fields 2nd Pro Day
Kentucky Panther replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is really all it is. We didn’t trade for Darnold knowing he would be our guy. It was a complete shot in the dark after Rhule decided he liked him and he still had a ton of potential. I’m very confident if Fields is available at 8 we take him Figuring things out between Sam and Justin sounds a hell of a lot better than figuring them out between Mac and Teddy -

If we go 10-7 or better Sam passes for 4000+ and 35 touchdowns. Limit the picks to around 10. We have the talent and coaching to make this happen. I feel like these are pretty realistic for a franchise QB on our current team -
Draft Sewell at 8 and our line becomes above average. I share Stephen As optimism on Sam. Let’s see what he can do with competent coaching and teammates.

It will sound silly to some but I was extremely pessimistic with Teddy, and probably more optimistic with Sam than I should be. I think adding him opened up a ton for our offense, and the defense will be a year further in the system. Add in a good draft pick or two and we should be quite a bit further ahead than last season.
-
I wouldn’t be surprised if we grabbed Fields or Lance if they are there at 8. But I don’t think they will be. So sign me up for Sewell

If you want to blame the staff and hold on the the Teddy signing, not much I can say. It was an awful move. But for where we finished and sat in the draft, this was probably the best case scenario for the team going into next season. The Watson ship sailed and here we are. But I’m sure if you were running the team we would have 3 Super Bowls right now. Gotta love the couch GMs. I’m willing to see how this plays out. If Sam isn’t the answer, we lost one year. It will be a better year no matter what than playing noodle arm Teddy.

1000 percent more interested. Not only do we have a better QB with more potential, but we get to add an exciting player around him since we don’t have to trade everything for a QB. I was probably not going to watch another game until Teddy was done. And now I don’t have to worry about that.

There isn’t a lot of risk in trading for Sam. His upside is 1000 times higher than Teddys was with us. At the most we lose a second next season, but depending on how the season plays out, it might be closer to a third. To me it’s a win/win with what we were working with. We all would have loved to be drafting at 3 to grab Fields, but that ship sailed, and we made the best situation out of a tough season. If Sam doesn’t get better, we move along next season and only lost a second. If he does work out, we got a franchise QB for virtually nothing in comparison to what others are giving up. A very young defense has a year under its belt, upgrade CB and OL in the draft, and CMC is completely healthy. Let’s see what happens.

Igo your Teddy threads made me want to throw up, but I am one thousand percent behind you on this one! Let’s support Sam and see what he can do with a competent coach and coordinator. Not to mention some help on the field.
-
I never expected the top four to be at 8. But I’m cool with drafting Fields or Lance there. Just don’t see it being an option.
-
Darnold is going to make a lot of you kiss his ass next season. I can be excited about the Panthers again. Talented QB, modern head coach, and can draft BPA in the upcoming draft. Lot to be excited about moving forward.
-
He’s better than Teddy. Has a big arm and can actually make exciting plays. This way we can still draft BPA at 8 and get this thing going.
