  1. The goalposts have been moved so much you don’t even know what the original point was, so here’s a summary: OP: “the best teams in the NFL are all playing their starters in the preseason” Me: “That is factually incorrect” gives multiple examples, not just QBs. Somebody else: Well a team with new coaches, schemes, etc. needs to play their starters. (Goal posts moved) Me: Gives Justin Herbert example (bad example due to injury). You: Herbert a bad example because he is injured. Talks about OL needing to play, which I would agree with but I think part of that has been minor injuries and whatever “personal matters” Damien Lewis was dealing with. Either way, moving goal posts to the OL. Me: Ok, but what about Hurts, Mayfield, etc. (I lost sight of the original Justin Herbert point at this point because, you know, the moving goal posts. However, Mayfield and Hurts are 2 examples I gave that are working with new coaches, plays, etc. which was the Justin Herbert point) You: Vets versus first round QBs drafted the past 2 years. Goal posts moved again. The original point was simply that it’s incorrect to say all the best teams have been playing their starters this preseason.
  2. In perhaps my greatest take of all time I said back then that Kelvin Benjamin would bust because he had a fat face and feminine features.
  3. Just off the top of my head without going back and counting games or whatever: Josh Norman, Greg Hardy, David Gettis, Andrew Norwell, Kevin Greene, Mike Mitchell, Robbie Anderson, Haason Reddick, Jeff Otah, Steve Beuerlein, wasn’t Mike Remmer good one year then hot garbage the rest? Maake Kemeoatu? I don’t remember if we got a year out of him.
  4. You have to play us! That season was so hype. I think that was the season Greg Hardy went off, too, no spoon.
  5. Ok, what about Hurts, Mayfield, Jackson, Goff, etc.? Like I said I don’t keep up that closely with other teams, just looking at box scores of preseason games since that’s basically all that’s needed to refute some of the claims being made. I gave a bunch of other examples I’m sure they’re not all hurt.
  6. That sounds like a whole lotta nothing. Dude probably just overheard some homeless guy rambling and tweeted “some names I’ve heard”.
  7. I always make sure not to draft anybody from our division because I don’t want to root for any of their players to do well ever.
  8. Chuba should be. Only problem is not knowing how the position will be handled second half of the season once Brooks is up to speed.
  9. I think he’ll definitely have a big year. He is clearly the #1 receiving option in this offense, and there has been heavy emphasis on developing the connection between he and Bryce Young. If Thielen can be a 1000+ receiver in last year’s abysmal offense, Johnson should break 1500. Fantasy-wise I think he’s a t6 option in Ppr.
  10. I just assume he wasn’t really following the design of the play, or something happened behind the scenes, maybe both. Like “Hey man, you were supposed to run into this gap right here, why’d you bounce it outside?” And he answers “Fug you and your momma” and flips everyone the bird. You never know. Or could just be one of those doing the guy a solid and giving him a chance to catch on with another team after putting out good film because you know he’s not going to be on your final 53. Or the guy could request to be cut for the same reason. Who tf knows.
  11. You never know, he could have massive hemorrhoids right there.
  12. Luton to IR guess that answers why he didn’t get more snaps? Or not. Idk.
  13. Dang they did Dillon Johnson dirty.
  14. I’ve been there I don’t always read full threads before I reply either, just making an observation on the pervasiveness of the narrative. Successful teams don’t all follow the same formula and you don’t have to look hard at all to see plenty who aren’t playing any or many starters just like us, so I think it’s time to stop talking about the approach in terms of “successful teams do this and we’re doing the opposite” because we are actually more in line with what a majority of last years playoff teams seem to be doing and KC seems to be an outlier. To your point that they play “some starters to varying degrees”, well, the Panthers have played some starters as well. Do I think it would be beneficial to play more of our starters more minutes? Sure. But I acknowledge that is just based on my feelings and I don’t know everything that went into the decisions of who played and who didn’t. Like if they felt certain starting OL shouldn’t be playing for whatever reason, maybe there’s some soreness we don’t know about or whatever, yeah I don’t want any QB that we would be relying upon in the regular season taking snaps behind our practice squad level backups.
  15. It’s funny how I just gave clear examples of actually most of the playoff teams last year not playing starters and this post immediately follows. To your first point, Justin Herbert hasn’t played a snap this preseason either with new coach, schemes, players, etc. Y’all really just need to stop acting like this is some Panthers-only, losing teams only, approach so we can have real conversations. And just lol imagining the posts we would have to endure here if Bryce Young had played this preseason to go 2/6 for 11 yards and a sack as Brock Purdy has.
  16. Are they though? I just looked at the box scores for a few, and I could be wrong because I don’t worry myself so much with watching other teams, but it appears to be a completely false narrative that “all the best teams are playing their starters a few drives.” I started with the 49ers since they were just in the Super Bowl (we all know Mahomes has played so didn’t bother looking at the Chiefs), and it appears Purdy has played maybe a series over 2 games (2/6 on pass attempts), McCaffrey doesn’t appear to have played at all, and neither do any of their starting receivers (I don’t see any stat lines for Samuel or Pearsall but it’s possible they played and didn’t catch a pass). A brief check of other division winners/playoff teams from last year showed no Prescott, no Goff, no Mayfield, no Hurts, just 2 pass attempts from Love. At that point I just stopped looking because the narrative that all the other good teams are playing starters is clearly just false. Please don’t move the goalposts, I get there are other arguments for why people think we should get some reps for our starters, but can we at least stop acting like all good teams play their starters and we should follow their examples because it just isn’t true.
  17. He’s just here because he’s been here. Why would they spend time teaching a new QB the system, plays, language, etc. for 3rd/4th string that won’t make the team? I’d prefer they focus elsewhere idk about you. It’s clear they place very little value in these preseason games and value practice way more.
  18. This is new and definitely not something that has been repeated ad nauseam.
  19. Damn we already lost the first player on the field race.
  20. IIRC nobody was scouting him as a QB for the draft. I doubt it would have worked either way. Classic overdraft the local legend to sell tickets.
