"Bryce Young needs superstars to be successful"
WUnderhill replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
74% completion to the 2 guys averaging (barely) over 2 yds separation in that graph accounting for over 60% of the passing offense. -
Not a single comment about yet another metric that shows we have one of the worst defensive play callers in the league. 10 offensive play callers worse according to whatever this is. Consistent with about 10 teams worse in every offensive metric. Only 7 defensive play callers worse according to this. 31 out of 32 DVOA, 31 out of 32 points allowed, 29 out of 32 in takeaways. No threads about Ejiro Evero. Our offense would have to rival Miami’s to make up for our atrocious defense.

Reich handing over playcalling to Brown
WUnderhill replied to UNCrules2187's topic in Carolina Panthers
We just have to literally become the Dolphins offense to make up for how bad our defense is. No big deal! -
That’s probably pretty accurate but nobody wants to talk about it. I tried talking about it before the season even started. We got boned by the schedule makers the first 6 weeks. Every game to me looked like more likely a loss than a win, but I figured the team would still win one or two just because. Turns out the OL, WRs, and defense are way worse than I thought.

I’m not saying the offense is a bright spot, but there’s like 10 teams with worse offenses by pretty much every metric (yds/game,pass yds/game, rush yds/gm, points/game), and they’ve all managed to win games. The difference is there is literally one defense that has given up more points per game and that is the Denver Broncos. We need to be talking more about this rockstar DC we’re supposed to have. -
First 1/3 of this article is pretty telling

? Ben Johnson completely declined to interview. Josh McDaniels in the past comes to mind as well. It happens. -
Read what I said. You really think the team didn’t know his weight? What does it matter whether you or I know his weight?
-
It’s honestly wild to think an NFL team with their own doctors, scouts, full medical staff, etc. would be duped by a player drinking water before the combine. It’s ridiculous. That boy had a full medical evaluation. They saw his breakfast as it was digesting in his stomach. They traded up to stake their careers on a player. They had an unfathomable amount of information more than we have access to. And people think they didn’t know his weight? If they wanted to they would put him on a scale at the dinner table. But they didn’t need to because they had the information. I can’t believe we’re still talking about this.

This thread is titled “Bryce bashing needs to stop” and you’re taking the opposing stance. Nobody has time to check everybody’s post history. If you’re going to defend the Bryce bashing, you get lumped in with everybody else.

The only point I was making was that Bryce Young is not the first and will not be the last top QB to not throw at the combine. It’s a matter of what their agent advises, risk/reward, etc. and clearly teams don’t care. Taking it to mean anything about the player is an exercise in futility. https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/968533844159811584?s=20 That’s from 2018, all sorts of different QBs on there. Been more since then. I’ve seen plenty of flashes of what made him the #1 overall pick. I think those that don’t are really just hyper focused on anything negative they can find. “Cerebral” don’t mean poo if none of your WRs are open, you’ve got free rushers up the middle, your RT is in your lap, and the RDE is on your back shoulder. I think we’ll see a lot of “progress” post bye that will magically coincide with getting the team’s top guard back (unless he’s turned into a steaming pile of hot garbage like Ikey) and an easier schedule.

You like to qualify every positive but never consider that we have the slowest WRs in the NFL paired with the worst OL and no run game. We’re on like our 4th string guards. We’re pulling in guys off the street. And to top it off our t10 LT has looked like poo, our top paid RT has been nothing to write home about, and the center has looked worse than last year as well. This is flat out a worse team than the 7 win team from last year at literally every position EXCEPT QB and Safety, and all you want to do is drag the rookie QB. If you had super high expectations from camp fluff pieces, that’s on you. That happens literally every off season for every team. I had higher expectations than what we’ve seen on the field. But I said before the season started it would be a positive for the team if they were able to get even 2 wins before the bye. And that’s with me thinking we had a decent OL and at least serviceable receiving corps. The offense has been a poo show, but if there’s anybody I’m giving a pass to it’s the rookie QB being asked to throw 20 screens a game behind the worst OL in football with zero run game.

Ok so you admit Bryce Young got a lot of hate pre draft. Will Levis and CJ Stroud are not on this team. Not throwing at the combine is nothing new for QBs under consideration for the top pick. I recall Andrew Luck not throwing just for one example. But sure, I’m the one with the agenda. And lastly, there’s a grand canyon of middle ground between “pretending everything is going well” and what’s been going on around here. Don’t pull a hammy jumping to those conclusions, “bud”. Don’t be one of those guys.
-
I was here pre draft. There was A LOT of Bryce Young hate. Plenty of people dragging him for not taking part in the combine, maybe you were one of them since you’re still talking about it. Like I’m sure the teams had no idea what he weighed or how he threw you’re just upset because nobody thought it was important for him to bow before the combine stans. Were you also one of the ones who vowed to have his back if he were drafted and became your QB? Let’s see the receipts on those folks who have been nothing but negative about him all season. Sheesh talk about bullshit come on now.

Anybody remember Dwayne Bacon? He played for some foreign team against the Nets tonight.

He’s 100% gone and will probably be in jail if the reports of what occurred are true. -

Just because he used the word a bunch doesn’t make it mean something it doesn’t. Only he can speak of his intentions, but I’ve never heard of goon being any sort of racial term. I always think of hockey goons or big slimy violent mobsters personally. -
The ball doesn’t teleport. 6 seconds he’s just getting his feet set again, Thielen is at the back of the end zone with no more space to work, and the underneath DB is drifting back into the passing lane to make a play on the ball. And he can’t lead Thielen with the ball away from the underneath DB because there’s another DB closing on that side. If you watch the play you see that but of course you won’t acknowledge it. That’s a 35 air yard throw you expect to get there before the DB can make up 5 in a direction he’s already moving. That’s a tight window. Sure he coulda chucked it and seen if Thielen would play the ball better than 2 DBs, but then you’d all be complaining about that too. It’s clear he is trying to play pretty risk averse, and it’s perfectly reasonable if he saw the DB drifting towards Thielen and decided not to pull the trigger. He is looking that direction in the video. You can argue you want to see him take that risk. The problem is this thread is made on the premise that there was no risk, it was a clean pocket, etc. etc. which just isn’t true. I personally think the window is closed after he can’t step up and make the throw from the pocket. That is the clear moment that Thielen is about to come free and it looks to me that’s what Bryce wants to do. Unfortunately Moton was on ice skates. At one point both Moton’s feet left the ground. Our oline may be the worst in the league right now.
-
Yeah Moton nearly gets pushed into his lap and if he steps up right at the moment he needs to throw that pass with anticipation he’d be smelling the DEs coffee breath and giving up a free arm swipe so y’all could complain about another fumble. “Clean pocket” my ass. Pause right at 22 seconds, that’s when he wants to step up and throw the ball. Look where his feet are and where Moton’s are. They are parallel within inches of each other and up to that point Moton had done nothing but give ground to the edge and now he’s moving him laterally right where Bryce wants to step up. Young escapes and sets his feet again but by the time his feet are set Thielen is just lazily drifting in the back of the end zone and 2 Vikings DBs are in position to make a play if he throws it there.

Frank’s End of Game “Playcalling”
WUnderhill replied to USDepartmentOfSavagery's topic in Carolina Panthers
Was very frustrating to see them try to milk the clock and force the offense to get a 2pt conversion just to force overtime, instead of trying to leave themselves enough room for 2 possessions. What’s worse is even if we had scored, the Vikings would have had like a minute and a half and 3 timeouts just to get in field goal range. That was so incredibly dumb. And going into the half with a timeout in our pockets when we could have saved like 15 seconds on that first down. And the constant run, screen, put offense into 3rd and long. Very frustrating to watch. -
I just looked him up. He was just arrested for violating a restraining order he received over domestic violence charges, is 33 yrs old, and only had 4.5 sacks in 15 games last year. On top of that his unhinged social media behavior and familial disposition to mental health and drug problems. This would be a terrible idea.

Sure. Richardson gets injured it’s a freak accident no concern (no mention of his other injury of course), Bryce gets injured it’s a “phantom” injury with huge negative implications. I’m sure you would take it just as well if Bryce hadn’t finished a game all season due to multiple injuries.
