  1. Saad to the Blues. Does anyone else find it interesting that we have no player under contract for the 2025 season?
  2. Thankfully, Slavin is under contract through the 2024 season.
  3. Post Season Points. As an "Offensive" Defensemen...2 goals in 11 games doesn't scream 9 Mil AAV to me. His +/- was great, but at the end of the day...gotta put pucks in net when the seasons on the line. EDIT: I'd much rather take that money and give it to a pure goal scorer.
  4. and now its official: Dougie gone. I know everyone wanted the Canes to re-sign him, but at $9 Mil AAV....no thanks. There's no way in hell he should be the highest paid player on the team. When Dougie is on, he's great, but there are way too many lapses for him to make 9 Mil a year.
  5. Has anyone seen an official statement from the Devils about Dougie? If not, maybe there are still an outside shot that the Canes throw some more money at him. There are a lot of moving pieces right now, and with the trades preceding today, it doesn't feel like the Canes are a better team. Time will tell, though, but at the moment I am not optimistic.
  6. Typically its the Hurricanes roasting folks on social cedia. Detroit slinging the words today though:
  7. https://theathletic.com/2723264/2021/07/22/we-arent-trying-to-save-money-why-the-hurricanes-traded-alex-nedeljkovic-and-what-their-new-plan-is-in-net/?source=emp_shared_article So I am not going to regurgitate the entire article because I think everyone interested in competent writing and reporting should be subscribing to the Athletic, but here are a few snippets from Sara Civian's latest on today's activities: 1. Arbitration could have gotten weird “We tried to get a contract done with Ned, and we couldn’t get one done. The agent was playing very hard,” Hurricanes GM Don Waddell said in an exclusive interview with The Athletic on Thursday. “He’s got an arbitration case that (could have paid him) somewhere around $3, $4, $5 million. 2. Committed to winning now “You probably can’t have two goalies at $3.5 to $4 million. You gotta pay one, then one hopefully on the lesser side,” he said. “And here’s the thing: We aren’t trying to save money — we’re trying to save cap space. That’s the whole idea. “We’re fortunate to have (owner) Tom (Dundon), who is willing to go to the cap, but now we have to manage the cap and make the right decisions with the money we have.” 3. But what about No. 1? “I think we’re looking more toward the veteran side of things,” he said. “We’re in a win-now mode, and having a veteran goalie makes the most sense for our franchise right now. So hopefully that’s the direction we end up in.” “We’ve got some things going on, obviously, but at the end of the day, I think we’re a destination place,” Waddell said. “We’ve got a good defense and an open net. I think we’ve got a spot that’s pretty appealing to a lot of guys.”
  8. I might have to get a Geekie Kraken jersey. Those things are ... mint.
  9. Bit disappointing but...we were going to lose someone. Lets hope we can get some of the UFAs signed now, though.
  10. This is a good video. Not so much the Mock Drafts, but the breakdown of the Vegas draft from 2017 and the implications of who was and was not selected.
  11. Maybe, but they have to build a roster too and take into consideration the salary cap, etc. They need bottom 6 guys as well.
  12. Unprotected, potential Krakeners: Forwards Morgan Geekie Steven Lorentz Jordan Martinook (UFA) Max McCormick (UFA) Brock McGinn (UFA) Nino Niederreiter Cedric Paquette (UFA) Sheldon Rempal (UFA) Drew Shore (UFA) Spencer Smallman (RFA) Defensemen Jake Bean (RFA) Jake Gardiner Jani Hakanpaa (UFA) Dougie Hamilton (UFA) Maxime Lajoie (RFA) Roland McKeown (UFA) Joakim Ryan (UFA) David Warsofsky (UFA) Goalies Antoine Bibeau (UFA) Jeremy Helvig (RFA) Petr Mrazek (UFA) James Reimer (UFA) Dylan Wells (RFA) Nino, McGinn or Martinook being drafted will leave me teary eyed. Geekie or Lorentz will leave me perturbed.
  13. Let’s keep this place rolling with highlights and off season stuff through the summer and into the fall. Hopefully some of y’all make your way to some Panthers game and/or Roaring Riot tailgates. See you there!
  14. Good season. Disappointing end. Hats off to Necas and Ned and the grind from the Taxi Squad. Svechnikov really, really disappointed down the stretch and looked like a middling 6 player.
  15. Terrible decisions all game, by lots of different players, but Mrazek has absolutely been terrible. Like mine blowingly bad after what he showed in Game 3. Like “leave him in Tampa” bad. “Give me Tristan Jarry” bad.
  16. And that one is on RBA for keeping Mrazek in. The collapse is complete
  17. 8 seconds left on the PP, and whoever that was in the corner is looking for the too cute pass.
  18. The Svech calls have been correct. The Bean call atrocious. Svech has 3 penalties and none of them are borderline. They’re all terrible decisions.
