Panthers will have joint practice with Cleveland
CatalystNX replied to Captain Morgan's topic in Carolina Panthers
The one bullet Tepper did manage to dodge. -
Isaiah Simmons is still a free agent 6'4 240
CatalystNX replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
Eh, I get it but the difference with Walker is there is plenty of tape of him wrecking games off the edge. I don't ever recall seeing Isaiah Simmons do that at safety or linebacker in college. Personally, I never got the hype with Simmons. There aren't many examples of college hybrid linebacker/safeties going to the NFL and excelling as hybrid players, but there are a number of guys who have made the transition from LB to EDGE. Micah Parsons is the most obvious current day player, but Von Miller did this as well. Khalil Mack did to a lesser extent, too. -

I agree as a LB, but he probably still goes top-half of round 1 as a pure EDGE. -
I mean, the guy is an athletic freak. I'd prefer someone with better production, but I'd rather have Stewart than Mykel Williams.

There will be worse players to get the same or better money. The salary cap going so high basically guarantees this.
-
That's not a bad deal, TBH. That's roughly what I expected him to get. Granted, you're paying him to a large degree because you feel like he can still improve.

1-year, $15M or something

Tried something a little different this time... traded down almost out of the 1st round with Buffalo and again several times during the draft. Ended up with a ton of picks + Buffalo's 2nd rounder next year.

Send them one of our 4ths.

My masterpiece...

Would it? I'm not so sure. We need talent. BAD. Even if we absolutely NAIL this draft we'd still go into the season with a ton of major needs, and nailing the draft is FAR from certain.

I'm very iffy on paying Jevon Holland big money. He's a good young player, but is he worth elite safety money? I can't help but think that money would be better spent elsewhere. Milton Williams I am fully on-board with bringing in. If we can somehow land Mason Graham in the draft and pair him with Williams and Derrick Brown that would be a terrifying front-3.

Tepper's #1 mistake was giving Matt Rhule full control of personnel. For all his faults as a coach, it's his roster management that has crippled this team and will likely continue to for several years once he's gone.

Mitchell Trubisky is the best play
CatalystNX replied to electro's horse's topic in Carolina Panthers
I honestly don't care who the QB is; 2022 is over before it begins. Much more concerned with the OL that will be blocking for whoever we draft in the top-3 next year. Assuming Rhule doesn't trade the pick away for Carson Wentz. -
Greg aiming for that $80 million guaranteed 1 year comeback deal.
-
Kayvon Thibodeaux??? How you feeling if he was the pick?
CatalystNX replied to Basbear's topic in 2023 NFL Draft
I just feel like Thidobeaux is a bust waiting to happen. I've got no real justification to back that up; just a gut feeling. -
Could we really pick something other than QB or o-line at 6?
CatalystNX replied to Verge's topic in Carolina Panthers
If we MUST go somewhere other than OL, I wouldn't mind Hamilton. -
Free agents sign with shitty teams all the time. Look how many FA's the Jags routinely sign. It's about money in the end for most guys. Personally, I've never expected us to go after any HUGE names in free agency. More likely we're looking at a handful of mid-level guys on the OL; I just hope they're half-decent ones, unlike last offseason.

How did we get Frankie Luvu on a very solid deal, but are paying Ian Thomas $16M+ over 3 years?
-
Only thing I can figure is Rhule demanded Fitterer give Ian whatever it takes and his agent knew it and took advantage.

Worse; a recurring nightmare.
