Panthers continue to add to the defensive staff
outlaw4 replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Marcus Dixon... -
If the last decade is any indication, you're best off if your QB is still on their rookie contract or otherwise is at the top tier and worth paying for. Carr doesn't fall in either category. Also the fact his prior contract had those stipulations scares me. What he'll probably want will likely be too much financial and from a flexibility standpoint.

How will this coaching team effect free-agency?
outlaw4 replied to rayzor's topic in Carolina Panthers
Right now, we might be more attractive to players that have worked with one of our coaches before. Otherwise, we would have to demonstrate on-field success first. -
At the minimum, Reich has established enough respect around the league to pull in a great staff on paper. Whether it will lead to tangible results remains to be seen. The one major risk on bringing in a wealth of experience is an aversion to new ideas so additional staff who are more up and comers who may have little to no connection with Reich would be ideal.

Quarterbacks win championships
outlaw4 replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
Nothing can be done about past decisions. All we can do is take our shots going forward. Just that the potential swings this offseason are not great and extremely expensive either from a cap standpoint or draft picks. Again, the one advantage we haven't had before is a staff more capable of drafting a guy that - years later - people will say was a steal because we were able to identify that QB who just needed to be fully developed and we were able to do it. If I had to bet money, this is what we will do and worst case, we try again next year with a much better roster to where we can afford to give up a lot more. -

If finding a franchise QB is as easy as people here make it sound, every team in the league would have one by now. There's that fantasy and the reality of not being in a great position to find someone this year. Our team isn't stacked enough to replicate what the Rams did by signing a FA QB - never mind that we may only get one shot at a run before the cap will blow up the team afterwards - and we're too far down in the draft in a year where the QB class is very thin. Obviously, take a shot at it but don't be stupid and give up everything for one guy and have nothing left over to put pieces around them. That said, our staff as it stands - at least on paper - may be the best we've ever had in terms of actually developing a QB who may need a bit of work. Someone other than the top two QBs may be the most realistic option and even then, we'll probably need another guy to be a bridge. Finally, finding the guy helps a lot but it's still no guarantee. Burrow got to a SB and lost. Allen has yet to reach a SB. Herbert hasn't even won a playoff game so far. Meanwhile, we've seen guys like Goff, Jimmy G and Purdy went much further than anyone expected while backup Nick Foles actually beat Tom Brady in the big game. Basically, improve our odds the best we can given the options that are feasible. -
And then the referee nation attacked...

I was about to say the refs had - for the most part - been not that intrusive but to make a call right there...

Whatever happens, we've been treated to a pretty good Super Bowl.

Chiefs get to 30 points first.
-
Also, biggest game of the year and the field is an ice rink with all the players slipping.
-
Man, that's so close but I want to say that's incomplete.
-
10 point lead is nothing these days but the impression is the Chiefs are barely hanging on. Their defense has to start making stops or this game will get out of hand.
-
Talk about dropping the ball there.
-
The defender did a Nakamura on that play.
-
Not the first time Eagles have heard an opposing kicker bonk it off the post in the playoffs.

Kelce is a machine.

Been following this team since 2003. None of our offensive coordinators have been anything to write about. Frankly, the best was likely Turner of all people. Brady was great getting the offense moving between the 20s but awful in the red zone. Shula was carried by talent. Chud was probably the best with tight ends. Henning knew to feed Smitty but otherwise was the most archaic. Yeah, not surprised by CMC's comments at all.

Definitely stemmed from the Chargers 2016 game. After watching it again, I had forgotten that Cam didn't even need to attempt a tackle anyways because the play should had been called dead before that point. And yes, this was similar to Jake's injury in Atlanta where they would never throw as hard ever again. However, Jake's arm was pretty much shot and stayed there while Cam still had some arm but got worse over time.

Unfortunately, it's Jeff Saturday as the #1 seed versus a bunch of "Where are they from?" State.

The QB School : Breaking down AR and Levis
outlaw4 replied to Your GFs favorite huddler's topic in Carolina Panthers
Aaron Rodgers was expecting to be drafted early but ended up falling right into the Packers lap. Lamar Jackson went to the Ravens late. After the whole Manning/Rivers draft drama, Steelers still got Big Ben with the 11th pick. Obviously, the team needs to do their homework on all prospects but there's always that risk of grabbing someone for the sake of doing it. There has to be contingencies of grabbing someone else without giving up everything, especially with our current draft position. -
Nothing. Don't like the prospect of a bidding war with other teams.

Tepper admits to mistake in hiring Matt Rhule
outlaw4 replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
At least in my eyes, this isn't a case of someone being looked over for a person that is far less qualified. Hypothetically, if this was years ago between Wilks and Rhule, then a lot more questions should be raised if Rhule was chosen. However, Reich had his own set of qualifications, including also having a special connection with this franchise, being a person that players seem to love and respect and, in my eyes, a better offensive coach than Wilks was as a defensive coach. Wilks As for the exec team, my impression is that Tepper made decisions similar to he would do with his other enterprises without fully realizing that an NFL franchise is a whole different animal. Still don't think highly of him but for everyone's sake, I hope he has learned his lessons. -
Frank Reich's Intro Presser - Today, Noon EST
outlaw4 replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
My general takeaway is a more no-nonsense, sensible, logical approach than what we had before. Whether things work out is up in the air but given there is a special connection between Reich and this franchise, I don't have any doubts about the effort.
