So who is better, Stroud or Young?
ECHornet replied to Randolph Panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Young, imo. I don’t understand why everyone is nervous to take a smaller QB when the league is close to making them wear a no-contact jersey on the field. Sure, he’ll take a few hits but he can hold up with today’s rules. No draft eligible QB this year has a better understanding of how to play the position than Young. And when things break down, his improvisation is elite. We’ve watched… Teddy - good understanding of the game but risk averse and average athleticism/arm talent. Cam - the recent version is past prime and weak on arm strength and accuracy. Darnold - below average feel for the game. The type that looks good in drills but it’s too mechanical to translate to games. Baker - seeing ghosts and happy feet Young is a great solution at QB after what we’ve watched the last few years. An elite football-IQ quarterback with good athleticism/arm talent. His ceiling is as close to Mahomes as there has been since KC drafted him. -

Predict when Robbie Anderson is Traded or Released.

According to OverTheCap, it's only 9m dead cap for next year with 12mil in cap savings, right? -
It seems clear our staff isn't trading him unless they receive multiple top picks or significant young players in the deal. Our staff is smarter than Huddle posters about it. So those of you saying we should take only a 3rd or 4th rd pick are just showing your lack of knowledge on the topic. Since the Broncos were mentioned, I wouldn't mind seeing if they would send Javonte Williams (2nd rd - significantly injured), Quinn Meinerz (3rd rd), and their 2024 1st/2nd round pick for CMC. They know with Wilson's contract and some of their other signings, they need to go for it now and Javonte's injury may have them willing to make this move. We end up with a top pick, a promising young RB that won't prevent our tank this year, and a solid interior linemen that can help bolster our OL.

A Second Season: Players we may see again/or for the first time
ECHornet replied to saX man's topic in Carolina Panthers
I highly doubt Taye Hayes is an upgrade over CJ. -
Why would you trade CMC for a 3rd round pick? Even if you were right about him not being in high demand, isn't he worth more than a 3rd rounder to our team? You're not right about that, by the way. The Bills called immediately after we fired Rhule and I'm sure they're not alone.

I agree with most of the rest, but I disagree with parts of #8. If you draft a QB in the top 10 in 2023, you absolutely throw him out there if you think he's the guy. He'll either prove he is and the difference will show up in the win/loss column because we have a defense to pair with him. OR - he shows he isn't ready and you draft one of Drake Maye, Caleb Williams, or Quinn Ewers in 2024 to compete with him. You'll find your franchise QB taking this route and you can flip the loser of the battle for picks or keep him as a backup.

Maybe you should edit "1. Trade Mccaffrey. Offer to pay the rest of his salary this year and try to get a late 2nd rounder from a contender. At the very least a 3rd rounder." That's looney to even think about trading CMC while eating some of the salary for 'at the very least' a 3rd rounder. Taking on his cap hit for a 3rd round pick is not a move you make when the player is still one of the best skill players in football.

Where’s the receipts on all those complaining about that pick?

It’s difficult to read past #1 when you suggested trading our best player for a 3rd rd pick and eat some of his salary.

Agree that we’re going nowhere with the current version of RA as our #2 WR.

Jason La Canfora on the Panthers Future and CMC
ECHornet replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I also want a real QB and a winning team. Those don’t preclude having a top 5 RB. CMC would only make that QB’s job easier. His contract isn’t what is keeping us from having a franchise QB. -

Do you think madden, fantasy owners, and all ranking systems that say CMC is one of the better offensive weapons in the league are racist? CMC fans aren’t just making stuff up when considering him one of the best at his position. -
The post I was responding to asked for “any” evidence that Fitt could be a competent GM. Hard to argue against our improvement along the OL which was one of the weakest spots of our team. When I look at the QB room, I see that we’ve taken shots to get it right. We’ve missed on those shots, but at least we move on quickly in search of our next franchise QB. We’re in decent shape with our cap. A few guys we can move on from in the off-season to add room. No really bad contracts beyond next year that we’re stuck with.

Compare our OL now to when he arrived. That should settle it for you.

He moves the needle more than most in the league at his position. The problem is no position has a bigger effect on the needle than QB, and we have had a terrible run there the last few years. -

The time to trade CMC is next year before the deadline if we have a poor record. He'll still have value and the dead money will not be crushing at that point. Next year is toast if we trade CMC now. Maybe they are willing to throw in the towel on next year already, but our defense is ready if we get the right QB/OC. In the hypothetical scenario where we land a top 3 QB in the draft and they are actually what we hope, I would hate to be down our best offensive weapon + the player(s) $18+ million would bring next year. -
Seems like Fitterer and Campen deserve a lot of praise for our current OL play. For what Fitt inherited at OL, to be where we are now up front is impressive. Now get us a QB.

Can someone remind me how much cap space we thought we would have this time last year, and how much we ended up having this offseason?
