Which candidates would YOU interview in round two?
ECHornet replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
1. Steichen 2. Reich 3. Wilks 4. Moore Don’t want to give up draft picks for Payton. Don’t think Kafka is ready yet. Don’t want anyone from this year’s Broncos staff. At least not yet. I favor Moore > Dorsey and Wilks > Caldwell. -
We can later in the draft. Not at #9 if it’s the 4th best QB in the class and he’s a huge project.
-
I haven’t given up hope on Tremble yet. He’s the same age (22) as Sam Laporta, Tucker Kraft, and Luke Musgrave in the 2023 draft class. He’s actually younger than Dalton Kincaid. TE is typically a position where only grown men excel. He could still develop into a strong TE2.

TMJ and Shenault are great WR3/4 types. I still want to see Shenault used out of the backfield more. DJ, imo, is a high end WR2. If we landed an elite #1 to pair with DJ and the rest, I would consider our WR room stacked.
-
I agree. Some here do not. They mentioned they would rather have respectable seasons over a number of years than one Super Bowl and then below average.
-
IMO, If we hire Wilks with Reich as OC, we win the NFCS one or both of the next two years. I think the players believe in their improvement under him, and they would rally behind him to play ~10 win football with a FA QB like Carr or even Darnold <gasp>. Problem is that would be the extent of it. We would be back above average with that combo, but never a true contender. The benefits of galvanizing the locker room with a Wilks hire would have diminishing returns after that and we'd be back to mediocre. I just see a low ceiling with the ball control style of play I'd expect from Wilks.

Thanks for the links. A lot of value at RB late in this draft. If we were sticking with McAdoo's offense, I think Ibrahim could give you >80% of what Foreman did this year as a rookie, and we'd have him cheap for 4 years. I'm not sure he's a fit for all offenses/downs though. I do like him in short yardage situations.

It's currently looking like Bijan will be gone by round 2.
-
I laughed, but still not true. Gronk averaged more yards and TDs per game over his *much longer* career.
-
You're pretty far off on this one. Gronk and Hernandez played together for the first three years of both their careers. Hernandez only received for more yards in their rookie year. Gronk made the all-rookie team that year with 4 more TDs than Hernandez. Gronk was 1st team All-Pro in his second year I'm not saying Hernandez wasn't good. He was very good, but it's difficult to argue Gronk isn't one of the best tight ends of all-time.

I did one mock without trading up for a QB (above) and focusing on a combo of BPA and needs. Below was my mock if I traded up for a QB. I’d prefer Young, but I’d be happy with Stroud too. I tried to be aggressive with heavy offensive picks to support the young QBs.

Matt Waldman's Breakdown of Anthony Richardson (QB, Florida)
ECHornet replied to Lemory's topic in 2023 NFL Draft
Stetson Bennett is a better QB than Richardson right now. Will he be in 3-4 years? Idk, but if forced to pick one of the two to lead my team to a win this weekend, I’m picking Bennett. If picking a QB to lead my franchise for the next decade, I’d probably go AR and cross my fingers. -
This isn’t MLB where you can just pay whatever you’d like.
-
I think the mocks are off and Abanikanda will go higher than he’s currently projected. And if you’re going for a speed back, I prefer Keaton Mitchell from ECU over Achane. His speed is just different. Can’t wait to see what he runs at the combine/pro day. No need to draft a RB on Day 2 if you can get one of these backs in the 4th or later.
-
You saying Olsen was a better TE than Gronk?
-
Israel Abanikanda in the 5th
-
I’d say it’s a toss up who would win a dry weather game between the two, but I agree with your premise. The Bills have no RB/TE threats and their WRs are not as talented as the Bengals. It also looks like they’re outmanned in the trenches too.

Sounds like there won’t be a QB competition this off-season in SF: https://www.nbcsports.com/bayarea/49ers/nfl-rumors-brock-purdy-has-won-49ers-2023-qb-battle-over-trey-lance?amp

I’ll be sick if we trade up for Levis.
-
I do think Mayer will drop some after the combine. I don’t expect him to blow away the 40 or agility drills. He is ~270lbs though.
-
We’re picking 9th with the QBs we had this year. We’d be picking even lower if Darnold was healthy all year. Unkess he has a terrible injury (hopefully not), he’ll be a top 5 pick.
-
We’re not picking high enough to land Harrison next year if Payton is our coach. The Saints might be with their own pick.
-
I don't disagree that finding holes in zones may be easier for TEs. Still, how many teams have tight ends as their leading receivers? Looks like just KC and Baltimore.

Because DJ would be drafted in the 2018 1st round again based on his production so far.
