I’d rather have a QB
-
Compare the number of targets and utilization and enlighten yourself. DJ’s struggles to find the end zone have been discussed a lot on this forum. He doesn’t struggle to put up yards though.
-
This is your argument against Shenault while defending DJ in the same thread who struggles to score? yikes
-
Sure. I agree it will take some work to replace DJ. It’s far more difficult to land a franchise QB though.
-
The posters were discussing YAC. Here’s the top 15 in YAC per reception last year: Derrick Henry was #1 at 11.7. Shenault’s #?? 12.2 He’s more dangerous than DJ with the ball in his hands. I’m not arguing he’s better before or at the catch. I do think he could solve our RB hole though.
-
You can go on lamenting over DJ. I liked him as a player, but he’s not a game breaker. Of all WR1s in the NFL, DJ probably drew the least (or close) amount of angst from opposing DCs in prepping for games. He’s a low tier WR1/excellent WR2. You give that up every time if you think you’re getting a franchise QB in return.

Trade for Tee Higgins. I don't think the Bengals can afford him, Burrow, and Chase.
-
Patrick Mahomes is the best QB in the league and could approach best of all time before he’s done. Which of Stroud and Young plays most like Mahomes? The choice is easy.
-
Shenault is far more effective after the catch than DJ. Check out stats from last year if you think that sounds off.
-
I hope it’s Young. Will be ok if it’s Stroud. Anything else will be very disappointing.

What little I’ve seen of Musgrave left me thinking he seeks to avoid contact. I don’t think Laporta and Kincaid are far apart. They are nearly carbon copies of each other size wise. I’ll give Kincaid a slight edge catching through contact and Laporta the edge after the catch. Just by the slightest of margins both ways though.

What a Shaq extension/restructure could look like
ECHornet replied to ECHornet's topic in Carolina Panthers
Thanks for the link. I can see that as two separate statements. He has “one more year” on his contract so he’ll be here next year. Then he also wishes to retire as a Panther one day. Who knows. If he truly only wants to play one more year, that means he’ll almost certainly be cut. -
Mayer is best at settling into zones and using headfakes and crafty route running to get open. Great hands and knows how to play the position. Well rounded. Kincaid has excellent body control, fights for extra yards, and has some of the best hands in the class. Laporta is almost identical size as Kincaid, also has excellent hands, ran a 4.59 at the combine, and has the best moves after the catch of this year’s TEs. I’m really hoping he’s our new TE with our 2B pick. Darnell Washington is around TE4 for me. Elite measurables. He just doesn’t seem to play as fast in pads as he looked when running his 40. He has incredible size and strength, but I don’t think he’s very explosive. Worth a day 2 pick imo. Zack Kuntz is probably my next TE. He’s nearly an inch taller than Musgrave and completely destroyed the combine. He finished top or top 3 in pretty much every event. For all the talk of Washington’s size, Kuntz is the exact same height and only 9lbs lighter. If you’re going the tall target TE route, I prefer Kuntz to Musgrave but there’s not a big gap there. That’s my top 5. Haven’t seen them all though

I missed him saying he wanted to retire after this year. When was this? -
We already have primarily blocking TEs on the roster. We need a pass catcher. I agree Kincaid is likely the best at it. Mayer and Laporta are good at both. I need to see more of Kraft.
-
No. He’s at best TE #4 on my list. I’d prefer Mayer, Kincaid, and Laporta over him.

What a Shaq extension/restructure could look like
ECHornet replied to ECHornet's topic in Carolina Panthers
It’s tough because it also has to be a deal that Shaq will accept. I think he would like to stay a Panther, but I don’t think he’s willing to take a pay cut based on what others have heard. -

I like your plan. I’m not a big fan of void years anyway, and it seems that would be the only way to work out a Shaq extension. -
To clarify on my comparison to Jordan Love... I think Love is a pretty good QB. I'd take him as our starter next year. Coming out of college, Stroud is a more accurate passer and Love more athletic. Both have similar measurables. I guess those who disagree are running with the Burrow comparison from our QB coach or the Jared Goff comparison from the nfl site?? I don't see it.

Contract info pulled from Spotrac. Very possible I got some of the math wrong so tear my potential extension apart. Key points: -Shaq gets a two year AAV of $11,580,000 with extension/restructure. Seems fair for him. -Panthers get $8,996,250 in cap savings next year while also keeping an important piece for our defense Do you think Shaq is worth a contract like this or should we just cut bait now?
-
Jordan Love seems like a solid NFL comp for Stroud imo.

JOE PERSON: Panthers will not pursue Lamar Jackson
ECHornet replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Exactly. He bailed on his teammates on a potential Super Bowl run. If you offer him a 4 year - $190mil deal, it’s effectively only a 3 year deal because he’s proven he’ll sit for vital games in the last year, effectively holding the team hostage until they cater to his contract demands. I’m not going to say I don’t understand Lamar’s stance, but I imagine the Ravens fans and organization would be more eager to throw a huge contract his way if he displayed a team first mentality this postseason. -
REPORT: Panthers to aggressive pursue trade up to get a QB
ECHornet replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I hope not. If we aren’t sold on moving up for a QB, a trade back with a team needing a starter at OT should be the move. Let someone give us a 2024 1st and 2023 2nd or 3rd to move up for Skoronski or Jones.
