DJ Chark recently underwent ankle surgery?
ECHornet replied to CamWhoaaCam's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’m not any more concerned than I already was with his injury history. Hopefully this surgery helps alleviate some lingering issues he may have had in his ankle. Even if Chark plays 1/3 of the season, we’re not hurt long term and his talent seems worth the gamble of his low cost contract. FWIW, I think he’ll play more than half the season and we’ll be considering him a steal like Luvu and Reddick by November. -
I agree it should be a part of the discussion. Every attribute of each draft pick should be. I’ve just reached the conclusion that his talent is worth the risk.

I’ve stated the whole time it should be considered just as Reich describes. I disagree with the idea it should eliminate him from #1 discussion which is the way it’s portrayed by many here. I think the other traits you mentioned are that good. I have a feeling Reich and Fitt agree, but we’ll be in good shape either way.

I like and can see where you’re coming from with that metaphor, but I’ll counter with another. Bryce is like a first child learning to walk. It feels like you had to protect them from everything and hold your breath in close calls. Sure, they took some hard falls and maybe there was an occasional injury, but in the end they weren’t as fragile as it seemed. Young people are built to withstand a lot, and Bryce is a 21 yo athlete with more lean muscle mass than 44 yo Tom Brady who went through NFL seasons fine.

I don't think it can be overlooked that Ravens coaches may think he quit on them in the playoffs last year. Coaches don't appreciate that kind of mentality and self-before-team approach. Other coaching staffs saw what went down as well.

I'm not failing to understand. Most bigger kids in youth football will be able to throw the ball harder/further due to their advanced physical development. If a youth football coach sees a short, skinny kid come in and throw with the talent and ability of Bryce Young, the big kid will be headed to the bench. My son is not the biggest kid on his team, but he has been the starting QB the last two years at 7 & 8 years old. He's in that position because he has the strongest arm on the team and best awareness for the position. Bryce isn't suffering in those areas.

No, I'm just disagreeing with those making up imaginary weights for Bryce despite the facts shown on the scale and the words of one of his well-respected trainers. Here's how I've seen it go down since we traded up... "Will Bryce be over 5'9?" <Bryce measures in at 5'10"> "Ok, well his frame is too small though. Will he even weigh 185?" <Bryce weighs in at 204> "Ok, but he was wearing a hoodie and didn't participate. He must have drank 10+ bottles of water before." It gets old and annoying to see the goal posts shift so much. I wish Stroud fans would just admit they like him more and move along. That's fine. He's a good option at QB. I'd tip my hat and move on as well. Just stop with the exaggerations. Yes, Bryce is small. No, it hasn't affected his performance to date. Those of you thinking his size is such a big deal are going against the majority of NFL front offices that have decided he won't last much past the #2 overall pick.

Correct and OP even stated as much. Even the article addressed that more research in that area was needed. That doesn't mean evidence exists that smaller QBs are at more risk. I think the obvious conclusion is QBs of all sizes have a risk of injury, and size, history, decision making, and chance will decide their fate. How heavily you weigh each of those factors determines which side of this argument you're on.

You post that you're ok with any of Young, Stroud, or Richardson being the choice, but it seems like you really don't want it to be Young. I will be very happy with either of Young/Stroud, but I think Young is the better QB and should be the choice. I will be very disappointed if we traded what we did to draft Richardson. Especially considering he would be available later and potentially even at #9. Bottom line....if it was a concern of the Panthers and they wanted Bryce to weigh in again at Pro Day, I believe it would have happened. It seems like, at minimum, Bryce's agent thinks they satisfied the concerns of relevant teams at the combine. I am pretty confident Bryce could have taken the hoodie off at the combine and put up a performance similar to his Pro Day. The strategy of his agent was to skip the combine drills, and I can't blame him considering he'll be a top 2 selection. It's like college players skipping meaningless bowl games in an abundance of caution before they make their millions.
