  1. what? you are trying to prove a point to points I didn't even make. I said apparently we liked Darnold more than Fields. The fact we didn't draft him when we had the chance to says that. Do you disagree with that? I also said that there were reports early in the draft process that we inquired about trading to 3. Do you agree with that? If that is true, who we were we interested in? My guess would be a QB. I can't see them trying to trade up that far for a non-QB.
  2. but if we had traded to 3 there is a chance we wouldn't have signed Darnold. Here again the OP asked what what would have happened if we hadn't beat Washington. Several sources also confirmed we liked Jones or Fields. Several sources also were convinced San Fran was going Jones. You just never know. The fact we acted uninterested in Lance might tell you something. None of this really matters at this point, but I do find it somewhat curious that we supposedly inquired about pick 3. All we know for sure is that we liked Darnold more than Jones or Fields.
  3. but there were repots we talked to the Dolphins some about trading to 3. If you are going to 3 it is for a QB.
  4. Yep, especially with how quickly the current staff wanted to distance themselves from Teddy once Hurney was gone.
  5. Maybe to save your job? Especially if it was Hurney pushing for Bridgewater.
  6. Some sources also said we liked Jones. Some sources also said we called about trading up to 3, which makes you think there could have been 3 QBs we liked. Could have been Lance. Here again the team likes Darnold more than any option they thought was going to be available, pretty simple concept. Doesn't mean they didn't have other options they would have preferred, not sure why you continue to try and argue that.
  7. First of all let me say that I'm usually a fan of trading down, so this isn't a knock on what we did last night. More just trying to et an idea of what we actually did last night. Please feel free to correct me on any of this, it can get confusing. going into the draft we had picks: 1(8), 2(39), 3(73), 4(113), 5(151), 6(191), 6(193), and 6(222) So far after the trades we have: 1(8), 2(59), 3(70), 3(83), 4(109), 5(158), 6(193), 6(204), 6(222) for a change of: lost 20 spots on pick 39 gained 3 spots on pick 73 gained pick 83 gained four spots on pick 113 (4th round) lost 7 spots on pick 151 (5th round) lost 13 spots on pick 191 (6th round) gained 2022 4th If you ignore the small moves in the later rounds, which are underlined, and just look at the bigger moves we basically gave up 20 spots in the 2nd and gained pick 83 and a future 4th and moved from 73 to 70.
  8. It’s reasonable to think that if they didn’t have Teddy they might have been more inclined to draft a QB. Definatley wouldn’t have been less. Also if the did decide to draft a QB they would have had to consider us a threat. This will be a very interesting offseason to look back on in a year or two.
  9. I blame it on Denver. With all of the reports of us wanting to trade down, it was almost like we were trying to bait Denver into moving up for a QB and therefore increasing our chances of Sewell. Did us trading Teddy to Denver actually hurt our chances of drafting Sewell?
  10. I’m not the one spinning, but you are correct, this is pointless.
  11. He was our fallback plan. We couldn’t get Stafford, we couldn’t get Watson, after San Fran traded up we probably felt like we couldn’t draft a QB that we really wanted so we signed Darnold. The team felt like he was our best option that was realistic. That doesn’t mean they wouldn’t have took a QB they really liked it by the small chance he fell. Also by calling him insurance doesn’t imply the team would have took any of the top 5 QBs. Nobody said that. Honestly we would have preferred Stafford, or Watson, Trevor, probably Wilson also. Since they tried to trade to 3 there is a very good chance they liked a third QB, apparently not Fields. None of us know for sure, what if the Jets took Fields, and Wilson fell. Maybe we were high enough on Wilson to take him with Darnold on the team. That is all people were saying, that the cost of Darnold wouldn’t prevent the team from taking someone if they really liked them. Not sure why you all argued about that as much as you did.
  12. Uhh, apparently you hear what you want, just to be able to argue. What I read said otherwise, basically that Darnold wouldn’t stop the tram from taking a QB they really liked. Hey LinvilleGorge, did you ever say they would take any of the top 5 QBs?
  13. Interior O-line sure, tackles not so much. There are alway exceptions but as a general rule there are certain positions easier to find later in the seat than others. Tackels, especially the type that can play LT, are like QBs, they tend to be over drafted and hard to find. Sooner or later you just need to spend resources on one, or multiple ones, until you find them.
  14. Correct, if Rhule has final say then the GM doesn’t have full control. With that being said Rhule probably did realize he didn’t have time to handle all of the GM duties and he probably does give Fitterer considerable autonomy but at the end of the day whoever has final say has full control.
  15. I don’t expect Horn to play great this year either. All of these guys you need to give a few years to accurately judge.
  16. Exactly, a lot of people around here said Darnold wouldn’t prevent you from taking a QB you really like. That’s a true statement. Wasn’t a QB at 8 we really liked that much. Not sure why that concept really bothered you so much. Did some fans like Fields enough to take him with Darnold here? Yes. Did you? No but those are opinions, and your opinion could totally be right, time will tell. but saying Darnold prevents you from taking a QB you really like is an absolute statement that isn’t true
  17. At this point draft a guy that worse case can play RT, best case LT. between him and Moton you hope one of them can.
  18. And nobody could blame him. Teddy was a colossal mistake, and now if Fields turns out good and Darnold does not then I could see any owner becoming frustrated.
  19. Do you think we would have passed on Trevor or Wilson?
  20. The dumb narrative is that Darnold would have prevented us from taking a QB we really liked. The only thing passing on Fields and Jones tells us is that we really didn’t like them. If Trevor or Wilson would have fell do you honestly think we would have passed because of Darnold. Maybe even Lance, who knows where we really had him ranked. The team signed Darnold because they felt like he is was their best realistic option, doesn’t mean he is was their 1st or even 3rd choice. Not really that complicated of a concept. He has tools, let’s see what the staff can get out of him.
  21. I’m going to try to be positive here. I understand a lot of people wanted Fields. I would have considered him myself, but for whatever reason the team wasn’t that high on him. A lot of us wanted Sewell, but he was gone. A lot of us would have liked to trade down, no idea what type of offers they had. If you take QB or trading down out of the equation, we got a really good prospect at a high value position that was also a position of need. Outside of Fields or trading down, who would you have really preferred?
  22. Some of us tried to tell you all at the beginning of draft season that Trey was rated very high among the people that mattered.
  23. Or you trade down with your 1st or 2nd and pick up an extra pick in that range.
  24. Nope, the trade makes sense, and we will save a little bit of money. Looks to be a good trade for Denver, if his salary is only $3m this year. Also looks like this 2022 salary voided as part of the deal according to www.spotrac.com . That might mean if he walks they might get a comp pick for him. Teddy Bridgewater Contract Breakdowns, Salary Cap Figures, Salaries, Bonuses | Spotrac They gave up a 6th round pick for Teddy at $3m and they might get a better pick back if he walks. That is how you do a "bridge" QB.
