  1. 4/5 of McLaurin's completions were on 1st and 10. 5/7 of his targets were on 1st down. Maybe Gilmore was actually in on passing downs so they attacked us running downs? Sounds like they actually attacked us on the non passing downs.
  2. are you saying Gilmore came out on the passing downs?
  3. I agree. We completed 1/8 3rd and 4th downs throwing the ball. Only one of those attempts was a sack. The rest were incompletes or completions that didn't get past the sticks. Overall, we were 3/12 on 3rd and 4th down. They were 8/15. That was the ball game right there. Everyone wants to talk about ToP, that's a byproduct of not getting them off of the field on 3rd down and not keeping our drives going on 3rd down. Our offense did a bad job of converting, our defense did a bad job of preventing. You can blame both.
  4. Thanks. This QB clearly doesn't seem to be rated as high as past classes but at the same time that might cause some guys to fall in that 10-20 range and actually be available. Last years class was "stacked" but history tells us several of them won't work out. This year's class on paper doesn't look as good but there is a chance some NFL team is going to find their guy. Even if Cam plays well and we resign him at some point we do have to consider taking a QB early.
  5. Serious question, since you have watched him as much as anyone, what are the negatives with him? I know rankings can be all over the place at this point in the year but he is consistently ranked in that 4-5 range of the QBs in this year draft. I know the team around him this year is terrible and I'm sure his stats aren't as good but most evaluators don't box score scout. There has to be some attribute that they don't like.
  6. NFL Week 11 Game Recap: Washington Football Team 27, Carolina Panthers 21 | NFL News, Rankings and Statistics | PFF They had him as giving up the most pressures on the line. Also if remember correctly he had at least one penalty and pretty sure penalties are graded pretty harshly since they can be drive killers. NVM, I see your post about the penalties.
  7. I understand the idea of a short passing attack. Its been very successful for Tom Brady, but is it it me or have we gone overboard with it? I decided to look at our passing attempts on 3rd and 4th. Cam went 3/7 with the 8th attempt being a sack. Of the three completions only 1 was actually a first down. The other two were short of the sticks. This isn't a knock on Cam, we saw the same thing with Teddy and Sam. Actually Cams deeper numbers were good today, he was 6/7 past 10 yards according to a quick recap by PFF. NFL Week 11 Game Recap: Washington Football Team 27, Carolina Panthers 21 | NFL News, Rankings and Statistics | PFF Its like we are trying so hard to protect the QB we are actually making their job harder. I understand protecting the QB or not having faith in the O-line but at a certain point you have to keep the defense honest.
  8. Great player don't need the other players to make them good, they are the player that makes the other ones better. Nobody ever talks about Aaron Donald needing someone. Also where was KK drafted and where was Brown drafted?
  9. Would you prefer a new OC or DC? Would you prefer for us to use most of our draft picks this year on Offense or Defense?
  10. Here again you are turning this into some type of comment about Cam. These problems have been going on all season. NFL Football Stats - NFL Team Third Down Conversion Percentage | TeamRankings.com Bottom 10 in the league on 3rd down for the year.
  11. So what would help this team win more games over the season? fixing the offense or the defense? Pretty easy answer.
  12. Relax, I'm not picking on Cam specifically. The offense has been bad on 3rd and 4th all year.
  13. If you can't score more than 21 points against the 5th worst defense in the league, at home, do you really think you are good enough to beat good teams in the playoff? Everyone is letting todays bad day by the offense let them distract them from what the bigger problem is.
  14. If you can't score more than 21 points against the 5th worst defense in the league, at home, do you really think you are good enough to beat good teams in the playoff?
  15. Everyone wants to talk about why we lost, but more times than not, turnovers and 3rd and 4th down efficiency will tell you who won a game. Its what separates good offenses, and good play callers, and good QBs from the rest. Throwing it for 7 yards on 1st down is a lot easier than on 3 and 6 when the defense knows how far you need to get and they know a better idea of run or pass. This offense looks decent at times when we stay ahead of the sticks but you can't count on that all of the time. How much of this is Brady? or the QB? or the line?
  16. Impossible question to answer until we have financials. Jackson at $85m/5yrs vs Gilmore at $45m/3yrs might be a different answer then both at $70m/5yrs. I think there is a good chance we let Jackson walk. Keep Gilmore on a 3 year deal with the young guys we have on their roster. The rest of the group is really young, the coaches might put some value in Gilmore’s experience. I will say though that Gilmore’s age is a little concerning, especially for a guy that does well at man.
  17. Just to keep it simple lets cross out the sixth and the fourth. So basically the Texans gave the Browns a 2nd round pick to take $10m in cap. Sam is at $18m+. Like I said in my first post, i don't see a team doing it for a 3rd. I don't see us doing it for a 1st. That leaves a 2nd, which we don't' have and even if we did I don't know how many teams would take on that big of a hit for a 2nd.
  18. Little makes 1.2 and 1.6 for each of two years, of which 100k is guaranteed. Greg Little Contract Details, Salary Cap Charges, Bonus Money, and Contract History | Over The Cap I'm not saying this isn't possible, I just think we are going to have to cover a lot more than people think even if it does happen. Maybe we cover $17m of the $18m and we get a 7th. How much do you think we would have to cover to get a 7th? I do think out best chance of getting something for him is to keep him on the roster and let him play in next season's preseason, just to show he is healthy, and hopefully he can put up a good performance.
  19. Everyone keeps saying stuff like this but you have to look at it from the other teams perspective. Would you take a 5th round pick for the right to pay Sam $9m? I wouldn't. Another way to look at it is would you buy a 5th round pick for $9m? I wouldn't. A lot better chance of signing a decent vet to a 2 year $9m deal than a 5th actually working out.
  20. Its very possible they just release him, I don't see us salvaging much of anything, but it wouldn't surprise me to see him on the roster during the offseason. There is zero incentive to cut him before then. On IR he isn't' taking up a roster spot. Once the offseason starts the rosters go to 90 so the spot isn't that important. Lets be honest, there are 5-10 guys on every 90 man roster that everyone knows have close to zero chances of making it. Also you usually have extra QBs just to make sure you have enough arms to run drills. I'm not saying that is what they should do, but it could see them reasoning it out they way.
  21. There is no reason for him to spread it out over multiple years unless we sweeten the pot. In theory you could restructure his contract to 2 years for $22m with a $20m signing bonus with the second year being a voidable year. His cap hit would be $10m in 2022 and 2023 instead of $18.8m for one year. Sam would get an extra $1.2m and the team would gain some cap relievein 2022 but then they would have more dead money in 2023. In reality the team is just wasting more cap space overall. Taysom Hill is different because he is still on the team. Once you cut a player the voidable years accelerate into the current year or over 2 years if you do a June 1st. Example of $20m spread over 5 years, 4 of which are voidable. $4m 2022, $4m 2023, $4m 2024, $4m 2025, $4m 2026. If you cut the player in 2022 your cap hit is $20m. If you designate a June 1st cut your 2022 cap hit is $4m, your 2023 cap hit is $16m. You don't' get to keep spreading the cap hit over the voidable years once you cut the player.
  22. I keep seeing some of the same questions over and over about Sam's contract next year so maybe this will help people understand our options. I'm far from an expert so I miss something let me know but this should be correct. Since we picked up Sam's 5th year option he is guaranteed $18.8m for the 2022 season. If we cut him that is a $18.8 cap hit to our team next season. People keep asking, "what if we trade him"? Guaranteed salary is tradeable, but the question is what team would give even a conditional 7th round pick to take on Sam's $18.8m cap hit. Answer is none. So what our our options. We could attach a pick with Sam hoping a team(usually a bad one) with plenty of cap space would take on the salary (happens all of the time in the NBA). Lets be real though, what would it take? What would you expect if you were the offering team? I don't see a team doing for a 3rd. I don't see us doing it for a 1st. My guess is it probably would take a 2nd, and even then I have my doubts. Next option is for us to pay part of the salary along with offering a pick. For example Sam + 5th + us paying $10m of his salary of it for a 7th. Here again just making up numbers to illustrate how it would work, no idea what it would take. Another option would be to package him with a player. Most likely a player that has a year or two left on his contract. Maybe someone that is a free agent in 2023 that we have our doubts we can resign. For example, Sam + Burns for a 1st and 2nd. (not saying we should, just to illustrate how it would work.) Best and most realistic option is to keep him at least through camp next year, short of working out some combo trade or attaching picks, I don't' see any team giving you anything for him between now and then. He is already paid for doesn't cost the team anything to keep him in camp when rosters are 90. Maybe he looks decent next preseason and some team has an injury and is desperate for a backup and at that point maybe you get a conditional pick if you are willing to pay his salary. Or if he turns the proverbial corner he is Cam's backup if Cam is still here. Also quick note about June 1st cuts, I see people referencing that a lot with Sam's contract also, it does not apply. June 1st helps when a contract has multiple years of dead money left, not a single year. For example lets say a player has dead money cap hits of $5m (2022), $5m (2023),$5m (2024). If you cut said player then all of his dead money would accelerate into the current year, his cap hit would be $15m. With June 1st designation you spread out it, and its not a 50% split like a lot think. It allows you to take just the current years cap hit, and then the following year you take the rest. For example said player would have cap hit of $5m in 2022 and then $10m in 2024. Sam only has one year left on his contract, nothing to slit.
  23. The problem with these type of articles is everyone starts to box score scout, they look yards, TDs, and interceptions. Then they look at height, weight, and rushing yards to try and get an idea of athleticism. All of that can be very misleading at the college level, especially the stats. Tell me who can go through progressions and my NFL level throws. I don't care about completion percentage so much in a vacuum, how accurate are they at all levels of the field. Honestly I haven't got a chance to watch much college football this season but i did get to see some of the Pitt/UNC game. Pickett made some really nice NFL type throws. With that being said he had all day, would love to see some of his under pressure stats. I missed the end of the game when UNC came back so I would assume Howell likely did some good stuff. A few of us might have watched one of the QBs closely all year, but I doubt many people have really watched all 5 of them thoroughly. Corell is the only one there seems to be a consensus on, everyone else seems to be all over the place. That could actually work out good for us.
  24. Cam = $6m for 1/2 season Teddy = $31m + 3rd (potential comp pick lost out on) for 1 season Sam = $23.6m+2nd+4th+6th for 1 or 2 seasons Cam could be the worst QB in the league and his contract is still exponentially better.
