Saints closing in on a deal with CB Brandon Browner. "Almost finished," Browner would not accept a pay cut to be back in New England, which led to them declining to exercise his option. Browner is now a free agent and appears to have a serious market developing for his services. Browner, 30, had two years remaining on his three-year, $15.15 million contract, which includes base salaries of $1.9 million in 2015 and 2016, but it all came down to his option and the fact that he would have counted $4.8 million against the team’s cap in 2015. New England freed up $4.8 million in available cap space by declining Browner’s option. Last year, Browner appeared in nine games for the Patriots and recorded 25 tackles, one interception and six pass defenses.

Chiefs Releasing WR Dwayne Bowe Kansas City Chiefs are releasing veteran WR Dwayne Bowe today. previously reported that this was the next move for the Chiefs after they signed Jeremy Maclin to a huge contract. The Patriots and Ravens have both come up as potential landing spots for Bowe in recent days. Bowe, 30, had another three years remaining on his five-year, $56 million contract that included $26 million guaranteed. He had base salaries of $10.75 million (2015) and $9.75 million (2016-2017) coming his way over the remainder of the agreement. According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Bowe will free up $5 million in cap space for the Chiefs while creating $9 million in dead money. If they were to designate him as a post-June 1 release, those numbers would improve to $11 million cap savings and $3 million in dead money. In 2014, Bowe appeared in 15 games for the Chiefs and caught 60 passes for 754 yards receiving and no touchdowns.

Still, 22, has another two years remaining on his four-year, $2.354 million rookie contract that includes very reasonable base salaries of $585,000 and $675,000 over the next two years, so it’s not as though they would pick up a lot of cap room by moving him. In fact, trading Still would only free up $536,387 in available cap space while creating $97,226 in dead

NFL Notes: Bears, Cardinals, Cowboys, Eagles, Patriots, Ravens, & Vikings Bears free agent S Ron Parker‘s visit with the Bears is ongoing. Cardinals LB Nate Irving is visiting the Cardinals Thursday. Cowboys Cowboys brought in RB Ray Agnew for a workout. Eagles Dont rule out the Eagles and HC Chip Kelly possibly targeting Oregon QB Marcus Mariota until someone else has selected him. Patriots Patriots are looking for someone to replace the role of RB Shane Vereen and they could consider adding either RB C.J. Spiller or WR Percy Harvin. Pats HC Bill Belichick has a certain dollar figure in mind and he won’t budge from this number. Ravens Ravens will likely be in the market for receiver market in the coming days. Dwayne Bowe and Mike Wallace as two players to keep an eye on. Vikings Adrian Peterson‘s father says that the Vikings will be meeting with his son again at some point in the near future. “They will meet again,” “I’m not going to say who’s going to be at the meeting. I can’t comment on that.”

Rams are hosting free agent OLB Akeem Ayers for a visit on Thursday. Ayers was a name to keep an eye on for the Rams. Ayers, is an intriguing free agent given that he really came on for New England after they traded a 2015 sixth round pick to the Titans in return for him. Tennessee used a second round pick on him back in 2011, but he wasn’t able to live up to his draft status with them, which led to him being inactive a few times this past season. In 2014, Ayers appeared in 11 games last year and recorded 23 tackles, four sacks, an interception and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 30 outside linebacker in a 3-4 defense out of 46 qualifying players.

Cowboys are already making calls to other running backs now that it appears as though RB DeMarco Murray will be signing with to the Eagles. Cowboys could look to the draft for a replacement to Murray given the amount of depth at the position. Eagles are prepared to pay Murray as a top-five running back. the real issue the amount of guaranteed money between the Cowboys’ offer and what the Eagles are willing to give him. Previous reports have said that C.J. Spiller could be a fallback option for the Cowboys in free agency, depending on how things go with Murray. It’s also worth mentioning that Ryan Mathews could still be available, seeing as he’s yet to officially sign an agreement with the Eagles.

Raiders are signing former Eagles S Nate Allen. the agreement was completed in essence last night, but the two sides wrapped it up this morning. Raiders were hosting Allen for a visit on Wednesday. Allen, 27, is a former second round pick of the Eagles back in 2010. He signed a one-year contract to return to Philadelphia last year. In 2014, Allen recorded 62 tackles, one sack, four interceptions, three fumble recoveries, a forced fumble and five pass defenses over the course of 15 games. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 28 safety out of 87 qualifying players.

Buccaneers Hosting CB Sterling Moore For A Visit New Buccaneers DT Henry Melton apparently mentioned during his introductory press conference that free agent CB Sterling Moore will be visiting the Buccaneers, Moore, 25, originally signed on with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent back in 2011. He played for the Patriots before joining the Cowboys in 2012. The Cowboys, somewhat surprisingly, didn’t use a restricted tender on Moore, making him an unrestricted free agent. In 2014, Moore appeared in all 16 games for the Cowboys and recorded 46 tackles, a forced fumble, two recoveries and 13 pass defenses for the Cowboys’ defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 22 cornerback out of 108 qualifying players with a solid coverage rating.

Buccaneers are finalizing an agreement with free agent DT Henry Melton. Melton receives a one-year deal that can be worth up to $5 million. contract includes a base salary of $3.75 million with another $1.25 million available in incentives. The Cowboys declined to pick up Melton’s three-year option last month, which came as no surprise, as it would have guaranteed him $9 million for the 2015 season. Last year, he was working his way back from a serious knee injury, which was likely the reason for his limited production in 2014. Melton, 28, appeared in all 16 games for the Cowboys this season and recorded 15 tackles, five sacks and two fumble recoveries. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 15 defensive tackle in the league out of 81 qualifying players.

NFL Notes: Packers, Ravens, Redskins, Saints, Steelers, & Titans Packers Packers were one of the teams with interest in recently released DL Red Bryant last year. Ravens Ravens are expected to bring in a veteran quarterback to compete with Keith Wenning for the backup job. Redskins recently released DL Red Bryant make sense for the Redskins. New Chicago Bear Antrel Rolle said he was down to signing either with the Bears or the Redskins. Saints RB C.J. Spiller signing with the Saints is not a done deal, but New Orleans remains very high on him. Steelers Troy Polamalu’s agent, Marvin Demoff, said that the Steelers are giving him all the time he needs to make a decision regarding his future. “The Steelers are giving Troy the space and time he needs to make a decision that is very respectful of his 12 years with the organization,” Titans The Titans have GM Ruston Webster, HC Ken Whisenhunt, OC Jason Michael, Director of College Scouting Blake Beddingfield and OL coach John McNulty all on hand for Oregon QB Marcus Mariota’s Pro Day.

Dolphins are interested in free agent CB Robert McClain and are in the process of scheduling a visit. if McClain wound up being signed by Miami, he would replace Jimmy Wilson. Miami recently signed CB Brice McCain to a two-year contract, but it appears as though they’re still in the market for another cornerback. McClain, 26, is a former seventh round pick of the Panthers back in 2010. He lasted a little over a year in Carolina before he was waived and later sign on with the Jaguars before eventually joining the Falcons in January of 2012. Last year, McClain appeared in all 16 games for the Falcons and recorded 59 tackles, one sack, two interceptions, and five pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 90 cornerback out of 108 qualifying players.
