We’ve heard Kelly really impresses and seems like we’re high on Halaby also. I figure those are the leading candidates currently. But I do agree, if we like Kelly we’re going to have to roll because the expectation is he’s the leader for the Raiders job
-
I think it’s important to realize we can’t even meet face to face with anyone until January 21. And if they want to hire the HC before the GM we’re probably weeks away from getting any substantial news. Gonna have to be patient.
-
Which could be a good thing. I think the Reich hire always felt rushed last year. Part of me deep down wonders if we were so eager to make a hire that’s why we didn’t give Steichen a serious look and didn’t even bother to reach out to Gannon

Someone more educated than me could you answer this: what’s stopping any of these candidates from using their agent to put verbiage into any contract that specifies minimal owner involvement? We know this job is the worst for numerous reasons, one of them being David Tepper. If Tepper finds the guy he covets, why couldn’t said candidate say “listen I am not taking this job unless you agree to stay out of my business”? Could be the best thing to happen to us and also a super reasonable thing for any of these candidates to do. We don’t have much leverage here.

But considering all these openings we might have to accept our best option could be rolling the dice on someone a little bit.

At this point people only like mocking and laughing at our team so they make up scenarios that have a 0% chance of happening because I guess it makes them feel better or whatever. I have as good of a chance as Kellen Moore does of getting this job. If we strike out with all the candidates we’ve currently interviewed my guess is Evero is the fallback plan. Moore isn’t even sniffing an interview.

For sure. But these things can have a snowball effect. We were never going to hire Bill, but let's say the Cowboys do. We know the Falcons want him, now they have to pivot and their job is clearly more desirable than ours.

McCarthy is 100% gone which is brutal for us. Another team to compete with.
-
In the last 24 hours, reports that Sirianni could be gone with an L, Tomlin could take a hiatus after this season, and obviously some have speculated about McCarthy’s safety if the Cowboys flop in the playoffs. Any of these coming open would be brutal for us. Multiple coming open would especially sting.

Yeah even though we're likely missing out on Johnson there are so many other good candidates and we should land one of them. MacDonald is probably my favorite as of now (subtracting Johnson), but I also won't be complaining at all with Callahan, Smith, Canales, Morris, or Monken. Speaking of Monken, if any of you listen to The Roar they finally released an episode yesterday and they made a very convincing case for Monken. I'd be fine with him.

Just… what’s their plan? The entire top 3 are taking QB’s. Is Michael Penix their dream quarterback? Bo Nix?

Yeah it seems like our chances of landing him are very low at this point (and they probably always were) It will be interesting to see where we pivot. Monken, Smith, Callahan, Macdonald are all still interesting to me.

No coach has done more with less. That's a brutal roster he was working with and one where it's clear he didn't have much personnel control over. He was visibly furious when they traded AJB on draft night.
-
I think it's very unlikely we hire a better coach than Vrabel. The only problem is it sounds like he kind of wanted out of Tennessee because they're totally tearing it down (which makes sense). What he would be working with here is also a complete and total rebuild. But it is kind of tough to find his landing spot now that NE is out of the question. I've heard Vegas but their players badly want AP.
-
I still will totally be floored if the Bears don't draft Caleb #1, but Drake/Daniels is a hell of a consolation prize. Either would have gone #1 last year I think. I know Drake would have. Three phenomenal QB talents (and I liked Bryce perfectly fine coming out you can find my post history I was a big fan)

If what Leaky Faucet says is credible and Evero has a real shot if we don't get Johnson (which we aren't) how would you guys feel about that? He seems crazy respected in league circles. I think there's definitely a scenario where if he were coaching a playoff defense he's considered a top 4-5 candidate right now. I also totally understand those who want to purge this entire regime instead of promoting from it. But he's definitely gotten the wonder kid label from some. I could talk myself into it I think.

I think the quickest path to getting watchable on offense again is to find a new LT, kick Ickey inside, find a power back to go with Chubba and build a run heavy scheme next year. Whoever takes this job, I hope they consider it at least for the short term.

https://x.com/JFowlerESPN/status/1745848705540899297?s=20 They've got things rolling in DC. When's the last time we've said that? If this is true, I can't imagine any amount of money lures Johnson to this job compared to the Commanders one.
-
Rapoport seems firmly convinced Belichick is in play here
-
If the Patriots promote from within with Mayo, where is the market for Vrabel? I am still extremely interested in him.
-
Betting markets don't know a thing when it comes to this sort of thing lmao. Maybe for some jobs, but not most of them.
-
We can only hope. I've also hard the Peters/Slowik pairing for the Commanders which makes sense considering each have ties to SF/Shannahan.
-
Commanders are second best opening after Chargers imo. New absurdly wealthy owners, #2 overall pick in a great QB class and the roster isn't even too bad as it already is. There are pieces at WR and on the DL
