Could we maybe stickey this as the big coaching search thread instead of seeing 20 new threads pop up each day? Random gut feeling my money is on Steichen or Johnson

I’d like it for McCaffrey

Who played their last game as a Panther today?

Shaq Thompson feels like such an obvious answer here -
I hope not. But I have zero faith this team does something correctly.

Wilks got a bad team to start playing like an average one. Which is impressive. But I do not think he has the best chance to take this team from an average one to a good one.

QB purgatory. This is just where we are, along with plenty of other franchises. There's truly no way out that I can find right now. The Commanders have been here for decades. Had we lost a few more games there was potentially a chance we could have secured Stroud or Young, but I just don't see it now. I do think the Bears will come off that pick, but not all the way down to 9 when they can probably settle somewhere else in the top 5 and come away with a defensive centerpiece like Carter or Anderson. I predict we maybe bring Sam back, as well as sign someone like Minshew/Garoppolo this offseason while trying to convince ourselves this time it will be different. But it won't. Depressing days.

Lose when it matters, win when it doesn’t
FuFuLamePoo replied to mcsmoak's topic in Carolina Panthers
It’s honestly funny. This entire season it feels like every week the opposite of what I wanted to happen happened. I suppose the Detroit game I was still cheering for a win. But it’s insane man, we are stuck in purgatory. It’s why I don’t even care if they just give a kings ransom to move up for a QB. If the player hits, we can be in the playoffs soon. If he doesn’t it should collapse enough to get a first overall pick again hopefully in a draft with a true franchise altering QB. Just stop this treadmill poo. -

Can’t believe we are going to win this stupid ass game -
No Jim Harbaugh - Carolina focusing attention elsewhere

I hate how Dorsey, Moore and Johnson are mentioned but no Steichen? -
Yes Josh Allen. I don’t see a way we get Stroud/Young maybe even Levis without a trade up. Colts, Texans, Raiders, Falcons, Seahawks, Lions all could be in the QB market.

I feel like there’s a better chance AR goes too 5 than there is he falls out of the top 10.

Not sure why. This game is meaningless - so one where will Burns will thrive

Not sure I love the idea of a meaningless W18 game playing a significant role in our coaching search

Maybe THIS is why Harbaugh wants back in the NFL

Need him here by Tuesday. Get this poo done -
Also seen reports that the Broncos have already made contact with Harbaugh.

Here’s my thing: if our division weren’t HISTORICALLY bad, would he be getting anywhere close to as much hype for the head coaching job? So much has been made about how he “rallied the team to get into the playoff picture!” And that’s true! But we were only in said picture because we’re playing in one of the worst divisions in NFL history. Like, let’s say one of our division counterparts coasted to the division crown with an 11-12 win season, meaning we were never in the hunt. Is Wilks still a serious candidate for finishing 5-6 even though we’re never in the playoff picture?

Wilks did a fine job and I still have plenty of concerns with David Tepper and his ownership but I don’t blame him at all for wanting a progressive offensive mind. Reality is Wilks conservatism changed that game today. I understand we were short handed but that game could have ended entirely different had we gone for those fourth and inches to prolong a couple of those drives early. There’s a chance you hire a dud obviously but sometimes you have to roll the dice. I was even kind of selling myself on Wilks because I didn’t trust us to hire anyone better but I realize now that’s a losers mentality. Go get Steichen and make an aggressive move for a young QB

I’m at the point give a fuging haul. I’m fine to give this years first and next years. But for the love of God make a meaningful move for once

Our defense is not good like at all

I whole heartedly agree. In the past 2-3 years it's not like we've had many opportunities to do something cool or fun, but when those opportunities have presented themselves we have squandered them. WFT game last year. Atlanta this year. Pittsburgh this year. Anytime the team sets themselves up for a game of mild importance/magnitude, they blow it. For that reason I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high, because I feel like we know how this ends. For this game in particular it is of grave importance we never go down. I am almost 100% sure we have not won a game this year where we are ever losing at any point, even like a 3-0 deficit. I know the wave now is deferring to the second half, but if we win the opening toss I almost say you take the ball and try to immediately establish your game. If we can't run we have no chance of winning anyways. When Darnold has been okay for us, it's been when the team is playing with a lead. He is not capable of leading a team from behind. I feel as if that's when he panics and forces poo that is not there. It's really pretty simple. If we can run the ball I like our chances. If we can't, we're more or less hopeless. I don't fear Brady's arm like I would 5 years ago. Of course he can still be dangerous, and they have a lethal pair of WR's going against a battered secondary. Gun to my head I think Tampa Bay has the edge here, but it's incredibly thin. But I see more avenues for them to win this game than I do for us. I'll say 20-16 Bucs, but I want nothing more than to be wrong.

I can’t escape the feeling that we are going to beat the Bucs and then lose to the Saints

I mean he’s absolutely right. I can’t imagine what that turf felt like yesterday. Hell there’s definitely a possibility that on grass Jaycee doesn’t fall as hard and doesn’t break his wrist.

This team is bad on both sides of the ball.
