So Joe Person reported it. I was wondering where the news came from. Good news!
-
That’s fair. It’ll also be interesting to see how Johnson does as HC IF he ever takes that step. We can all name some GREAT coordinators who never successfully made that next step.
-
Call it whatever we want. Maybe, “Thank God for unanswered prayers.” If some of the scuttlebutt is true, he is not good HEAD coach material.
-
Good, the feeling is mutual.
-
I think something like that will be on the table. And the first pick of the second round is always a popular pick.
-
Some people are not meant to be head coaches. He just may be one of them. Whether Canales works out or not, I am glad the Panthers dodged a bullet with Johnson.
-
Yeah, not sure this meant what people think it meant, but I would love to have TD around in whatever capacity possible.
-
Yeah, I could see a tag and trade working out for Higgins. He would be “the man” here. Could also see Evans following Canales. Bucs players were really disappointed to lose him. Panthers will probably have to at least slightly overpay free agents. Would still need to add a WR in the draft. Canales is used to working with WRs who get open. That room is going to look much different in ‘24.
-
Would love to have him on our side for a change.

Not as worried about W-L record next year as I am about seeing hope for the future, including seeing Canales get the best out of #9 and our offense as a whole.
-
Not many on the roster, at least not last year. We had many more players playing like dawgs under Wilkes. Perhaps a coach who connects with players and motivates can bring that out in them.
-
Free agents and draft picks are the best way to build the WR corps. We don’t need to trade draft picks unless it’s a great deal for us. A trade involving Burns might be something to consider if it gets a top shelf WR.
-
Yeah, he will get at least 2 full years and likely into year 3. Nothing in the NFL is a guarantee beyond that without notable improvement.

Leadership is absolutely picking yourself up after failure and correcting mistakes. Leadership is also being willing to admit failure and teach others how to learn from your mistakes. It takes a tremendous amount of courage to do that.
-
Yep - everyone makes mistakes. He made some big ones, but owned up to them and put out a book that has helped a lot of marriages. Excellent leadership!

It’s ok to be be fired up, Lobo. I do think Canales will be successful. The question is, “how long will it take?”
-
I absolutely enjoy this show. It’s better than anything in the Charlotte market. Thank you for posting these. I actually called in to the show the day the hire was announced.

Rumor of Burns traded to Baltimore (probably baseless rumor)
Wolfcop replied to JawnyBlaze's topic in Carolina Panthers
If we can get that deal, do it as soon as possible. -
So Florio thinks Canales would not have been as open if he knew he would soon be a head coach. I doubt that, but only Dave knows the answer to that. Either way, I think it was a brave move and one that will help a lot of marriages.
-
If Canales wants to keep him, he stays. He is under contract. Now, if a team wants a trade, we can discuss that.
-
Yeah, a lot of the same players almost made the playoffs the year prior. The offensive coaching staff was horrendous.
-
The #2 OC with the worst offense. Makes sense.
-
You don’t need to “confirm” what Ian Rappaport or Adam Shefter report BTW. Kind of makes you look silly.

Weird if you ask me. If the Lions revert back to...well, being the Lions, he may never get another shot. I respect his decision, but this could be one he regrets.
