You might get a next year's 1st depending on who is trading up.

Agreed

As much as it sounds nice to say this will not impact Fields' draft stock, it has to play a factor. I hope he drops to 8 and some team gives us a haul to move up to take him.
-
Also, can you imagine what NE would give up to come up from 15 to 8 if Lance and/or Fields are still on the board? We could still get one of the top 3 OTs or one of the top CBs, along with a haul from NE. Would be tempting.

Man, if Chase is there at 8, he would be hard to turn down. Imagine that WR corps! If you let Chase slip by and grab Slater or whomever, I could see regretting that for years to come. If Chase is still there and you really do not want to make that pick, I would try to to trade down and get equal (or better) value with more picks. Heck, if you drop to 10 or 11ish, you still may get a shot at Slater.

Yeah, he was never the same after the injury. Seems like a good guy, though. We should probably move on.

Good stuff MHS - thanks!

Teddy only had 2 2nd-half TD passes in 2020, none after Wk 4

Have the Panthers passed on a good QB that was available that I am not aware of? -
I'd be ok with picking any player who is the BPA at that point

We will see what Darnold's flaws are. There are a lot of people who think he will do well with a better supporting cast/coaches.

There Appear To Be 2 Favorites To Land Teddy Bridgewater
Wolfcop replied to KatsAzz's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah, with Darnold's injury history, I would not be in a hurry to release Teddy. If we can't get enough for him, let him be the backup for a year. -
Bottom line is no one knows. The next 2 years will make or break Darnold and either set this coaching staff up for major success or put them behind the 8 ball moving on to their 3rd QB in a short amount of time. They didnt mortgage the future, but this will be a waste of time and resources if it doesn't work out and put a bad taste in everyone's mouth.
-
If he is sitting there at 8, ya never know.
-
I think it puts the Panthers in the best position to take the best player available at 8, or trade down. Darnold is probably not a long term fix, but he fits the system better than TB. And, there is a chance he turns out to be good (not great) and we keep him or trade him for picks at some point.
-
Its a gamble. He may do better here with more weapons. If he doesnt, we didnt sell the farm to get him. If the Watson situation gets cleared up, we might wiggle our way back into to that.

No one wanted Jake Delhomme in 2003 either. -

Yeah, if anything this may help to see what kind of real evidence there is. -
Awesome post, brother. Good insight from someone closer to the situation than we are.

I know that Fields is not Haskins. My point was, if he has issues that are not correctable in the NFL, we are better off drafting one of the other studs who will be sitting there at 8. If Fields is still there at 8, a bunch of teams have those concerns. Look, if we draft him I hope he is the best thing since sliced bread and he leads us to the SB every year. I'm just letting you know there are concerns out there about him.
-
That WR corps would be deadly (if we have a QB who can get them the ball).
-
Sounding like more and more teams have concerns about Fields' ability to process and make progressions. He looked good in the underwear Olympics, but he may indeed be available when we pick. Of course, if he is Dwayne Haskins Part 2, no thanks.

I knew a girl many years ago who was raped by an on-duty police officer that she did not know! That disgust me, particularly since I am now a cop and hate those who cause harm to the profession. Anyway, that poor girl, who was 18 at the time, never reported it to police. I have had other GFs who were also sexually abused in their lives and never reported it. But, I am still suspicious of this Watson case. There are several things about it that just smell fishy. I say we wait it out to see how things go. If the allegations don't stick, I would be willing to bring him on. Some team will, regardless of the outcome - I am not in that boat.
