I read he was SEC champ in the 60, plan on looking it up when i read his SC bio. Reminds me of Trindon Holiday, a little guy out of LSU that was a track star for LSU. Was a really good kick returner in the NFL except he fumbled too much

One thing to keep mind is the beautifully-manicured grass field at SC's Pro Day provided a fast track that probably artificially the 40 times. Which is why Pro Day numbers are meaningless to a lot of people. On top of that the SC Pro Day was hand-timed by a handful of scouts that all had different times. Still, you see Byrd running by SEC defenders in his games, but a lot of those guys won't make the NFL.
