I remember when Darin Gantt was celebrated on this board for his work with the Rock Hill Herald some years ago.  Since he's become an official employee of the Carolina Panthers he opted for the vanilla paste rather than the cuddlefish (Southpark reference).    However as I was taking a weekly check on the Panthers website I came across his latest mailbag.  I did find it interesting because he definitely insinuated that the Panthers bringing in Carr makes sense.  I would have to think that Darin Gantt does have incredible access.  Even though he is a fluff writer now, when he indicates strongly that the Panthers would likely bring in Carr for a visit after the combine you take notice. If the Panthers we're disinterested he would just give a vague androgenous answer.  Here's the link to the mailbag..

Ask The Old Guy: What comes next? (panthers.com)

Would love Carr, but way over priced.

ickey made that draft a success. that was the #1 priority...well, that and a QB but whatever.

imo, we needed to get that OL set up a year before we got our franchise QB. we now need to keep that gang together, especially without rhule getting his fingers in the mix.

but as long as we 1) got our LT and 2) didn't give away any picks that we might need to secure our franchise QB this year, it was a success.

Would love to have another successful draft by getting the best lineman in this one as well...along with ILb,CB, WR and TE.

Figured this would be fun thing.

The gist--from FA to draft, let's see what your fantastical Panthers offseason looks like.  And I'll give some flexibility to be a bit greedy, you don't need to be analyzing the cap super hard or anything.

It's evolving for me, but here's where I'm at below--I won't shy away from my faves; I'd prefer things to feel as different on the field as they feel with the staff:

Could be a cool thing to look back on and see how of the mark we were ha!

    QB

    CJ Stroud (R1) OSU

    Mike White (FA)

    Jacob Eason

*Corral traded, future 4th-ish (Sorry folks 😕)

    RB

    D'Onta Foreman (FA)

    Tyjae Spears (R3-5) Tulane

    Chubba Hubbard

    WR

    DJ Moore

    Keenan Allen (FA)

    Michael Wilson (R2-4) Stanford

    Terrace Marshall Jr

    Laviska Shenault

    Shi Smith

    TE/FB

    Dalton Kincaid (R2) Utah

    Robert Tonyan (FA)

    Tommy Tremble

    OL (L to R)

    Ekwonu-Christensen-Bozeman (FA)-Corbett-Moton

*add ~(2) swing T/G/C bc of injuries and whatnot.  Cade Mays is stickied.

    Like the Mike White pickup...

The only hypothetical where I’d like this is if we sent Burns, Moton, and one/two of our 2nd round picks for #1.

Then we select Bryce Young at #1 and Skoronski at #9. Sign a DE in free agency and we’re looking good for the next decade if we hit on those two picks.

Lol...if we had #1 and #9 it wouldnt be Young at #1.

    Yes.lol

You got fired for a reason. Be great at your job and you will keep it.

You Carr stans trying to make him out to be elite. In reality he is a middle of the pack QB. It's why he's now looking for another team. Yeah he is a upgrade over Darnold, Mayfield, Bridgewater... but he's also just like them not a franchise QB. His record speaks for itself.

Im sorry but he hasn't won a single playoff game in his entire 9 year career. Elite he

    TL;DW

    Pros:

He showed improvement as the season went on and made a lot of anticipation throws that he missed early in the year. Smart and decisive and can make multiple reads (Compares him to Fields who made those kinds of reads 5 times all year at OSU, whereas Stroud did them 5 times a game. Also mentions Stroud's time to throw was significantly lower than Fields' at 2.80 compared to 3.14). Throws a pretty and accurate ball, very Russell Wilson-esque the way it drops in on a dime.

    Cons:

Lacks elite Pocket presence and does not manipulate the pocket well even though he senses pressure well (Compares him to Dak Prescott and Derek Carr in that regard). This leads to him scrambling sometimes unnecessarily and making erratic throws without structure. Decision making ability takes a massive hit when he needs to ad-lib.

    Conclusion:

Calls him a certified passer by Bruce Arian's definition of a QB and Jared Goff who can run, which is a high floor guy that 20+ Franchises would gladly take under a rookie deal. Not a knock on him as an evaluation at all. Says he ended up being much more impressed than he originally was after looking at the tape.

    Worth a top 5 pick.

    If he falls to 9...

And you won’t be a championship team until you get the QB.. And waiting on the perfect situation isn’t a reality based plan either..

I know some of you don’t see this but reality is Wilks showed that competent Coaching made this team better and more of a viable thing then 1st though.. This team in reality with better coaching has enough talent not to be close to a top 10 pick in the predictable future..

Im sorry I don’t see a better opportunity then now to get your QB if you deemed any of these as your guy..

agree to disagree I like Levi’s and Richardson with this coaching staff okay.. But I love Stroud and Young with them more and don’t give a poo about picks in the next 2 years when I think the team will be better anyway..

False premise, as no one is waitng for the perfect situation.

Only 1/4 of the League has a top 10 drafted starting QB still on their original draft team, but WOW thinks he has this thing figured out.  If it were only so simple...  Trade up for the QB, bingo--Super Bowl!

Yes, the only thing missing in their simple equation is a a franchise qb in this draft.Everyone agrees with the premise.

Asking the wrong person im not a football nerd I don't study coaches and their schemes.

Just give me Stroud or Young. Fallback is Levis/AR. I don't care just no more bridge QB's please!

This star studded staff wont be in place long enough...need a bridge ,as you call it, if we want to win now with this staff

Maybe but both could be true too. He says release but he's talking about a trade request. He probably didn't expect to be let go after deciding against it.

Either way, knowing Smith had a foot out the door redeems the move and Gettleman a lot in my eyes.

It redeems nothing in regards to gettlemagic.

Rather keep our picks sign carr for three year deal and pick a qb that falls or later in the draft

A 3 yr deal ? Only if we can back load a deal under 20 mil. 30 mil on the outside.

I'm not enamored with Carr, and I'm not convinced that he'd provide us the best value for our money. Sure, he may be better than what we've had in awhile, but he's not exactly lighting the world on fire, especially in the win-loss column. He had weapons, but still just couldn't get it done this past season. That's a red flag.

If the money is right you take him and dont look back...

Guy has been to the pro-bowl four times so he has talent. Would you go after him and steal him from the Saints (possibly) and use #9 for a position of need? Would that be the better way to go at this time? I believe he was released out right today.

    Yes...but the cost too much.
