honestly... what other player puts up multiple 40+ point games AND multiple 0 point games? never disliked him but man it's been frustrating watching his disappearing act year in and year out.
-
not even engaging any more lol
-
He led us to the playoffs 4 out of 5 years and a SB while healthy, get the fug outta here
-
lol nice spin job. CMC averaged just 3.6 yards per carry and had 30 touches that game, 7 of those “jag” throws were to McCaffrey and many of his yards came on a trick play. Shanahan had some questionable play calling and game management decisions but you can’t say he “forgot” about McCaffrey. He rode him pretty damn hard despite not being efficient as a runner

He's eligible next year, he's gotta be 1st ballot right? An easy recent comparison of elite player who retired early in his prime like Luke is Megatron who was 1st ballot a few years ago: Megatron: 3x 1st team all-pro, 1x 2nd team all-pro, single season receiving yards record, 6x pro bowler, just 2 playoff games both losses Luke: 5x 1st team all-pro, 2x 2nd team all-pro, 7x pro bowler, DROY, DPOY. Super Bowl appearance and elite play in that run Luke pretty much blows him out of the water with nearly twice as many All Pro selections and the DPOY. Also, not sure how they calculate it but this website does a "Legends Score" which has Luke as one of the top contenders for being 1st ballot HoF, his score/season is even higher than Brady's and the highest of all current HoF contenders (including retired players eligible and not yet eligible for the hall) https://futurefootballlegends.com/Top_Contenders/

I think Luke is the best 4-3 MLB to ever play the game and I'll take that to my grave unless someone in the future rises to that level. He was basically the perfect player and there wasn't a single aspect of the position he did not excel at. And he could go toe to toe calling defensive audibles with the absolute best QBs out there. The chess matches between him and Brees, Rodgers, Manning, Brady were just something else to watch. Man I miss him, and I know exactly how the Lions fans feel having a HoF hang them up in the middle of his prime like Sanders, Megatron.

As a Panthers fan who rightly hates the 49ers I was pulling against him and laughing at his failures in the SB, but I really do like the guy and hope he gets another opportunity somewhere else. I've said before many times that I don't think he's a great DC, but he is one of the absolute best DB/secondary coaches and one of the best assistant HCs you can find. He's a great leader/motivator and great teacher, but not the best x's and o's guy or situational play caller. His defense here as DC with largely the same talent was much worse than McDermott's, I was shocked he got a HC offer so soon then but clearly AZ viewed him as a stopgap and never gave him a fair shot.

yeah I see what you're saying, although Cam isn't anywhere near the blowhard Shannon is, he has unique opinions and a unique way of expressing them but his delivery is way different than a Shannon or Stephen A
-
maybe but even if Cam was in on that idea I doubt a network gives Sharpe/Cam an alternate broadcast. Like it or not Mannings are a much easier sell to average NFL fans.
-
damn this is an entirely different team, loved our trade deadline before these past 2 games, now I'm over the moon lol. Seriously despite this being a brutal lost season I feel really good about this team going forward. Need new ownership to nail the GM and HC hires though.

TD played both LB and safety in college with most teams in the draft looking at him as a LB, we drafted him as a LB too but wound up playing him as a S his rookie year because of injuries in the defensive backfield. Chinn has never played LB and was a safety and corner in college, he's just not a natural fit at LB at all and his body couldn't get big enough to play LB. TD had to gain some weight and muscle early on but it was easy for him to do.
-
Generally agree but disagree on Chinn. Chinn is a perfect fit for a Kam Chancellor or Jamal Adams strong safety role. Sure he could switch to LBer but it's not a natural move at all like TD who belonged there all along. Chinn belongs at safety, you just need to pair him with a good coverage safety and have the scheme fit his skill set with blitzing, covering TE/RBs in the slot/backfield, etc. The downfall of Chinn here really is criminal. This is a player completely capable of being a perennial All-Pro and we've just completely mismanaged him.

as Cam said and got absolutely trashed for... I'm loving Cam as a media analyst

as expected and happy to see it. he's given us some really great pieces to get started with, now we need a new GM and HC to bring it all together

If you want to play the injury game I'm sure the Chiefs would've gladly gone against a healthy Greenlaw if it meant a healthy Thuney and Omenihu. Chiefs' ST was better all year and is the better unit, those plays aren't lucky, Chiefs earned them. Also conveniently ignoring things like the ineligible receiver downfield on CMC's TD, horsecollar on Purdy, intentional grounding with a receiving in the vicinity, full bodyweight sack on Mahomes that by the rulebook should've been a penalty. Chiefs earned the win, 49ers deserved to lose. Luck had nothing to do with it.

Annual reminder that Panthers drafted this guy and then lost him

fuging cold blooded and clutch as hell. what a fuging shame we chose an overpaid Gano who Rivera didn't even trust to kick a 50 yarder over him. he would've won SB MVP if they won it on a FG instead of a Mahomes TD. -
Honestly looking back at the game I really can't fault Shanahan for not running the ball more. It was more of a timing of when to run it issue. He basically abandoned it in the 3rd quarter before going back to it heavily in the 4th. McCaffrey had 22 carries and pretty low yards per carry so not sure giving him the ball more would've helped them. Not sure why they didn't run Deebo at all though. To the OP, 1&2 equally. Chiefs are incredible but they are beatable and on paper the 49ers have a better team outside of QB. Also I think it's important to note that having Mahomes/Reid and Brady/Belichick on the other sideline can really get in the head of the opposing coach. We've seen it all postseason with the Chiefs, both the Bills and Ravens abandoned the run too against them. I'm not sure that Shanny would choke like that against a less imposing QB/HC combo on the other sideline. Not to excuse the choking just think that factors in too

To quote Eric Collins, some things you guess at and other things you just know. don’t waste your $ lol

Not sure I've seen a better group of skill players since the Warner Rams... Kittle top 3-5 TE, has an argument for best TE. McCaffrey best RB in the league undoubtedly. Aiyuk top 5-10 WR. Deebo top 10-15 WR. Juszcyk best FB in the league by far and an incredible blocker and runner/receiver. Plus a top 5 OL and top 5 offensive coaching easily. Embarrassment of riches and I don't understand how anyone could have him in the MVP conversation with that supporting cast propping him up.
-
they won't do it but they'd be better off with Cousins
-
He would look like Kyle Allen here without his 4 elite weapons, elite OL and elite offensive HC (yes Shanahan has some poor in game decision making but he is an incredible offensive mind. Hell he got Matt friggin Ryan an MVP).
-
well he's not the guy but at least when we see that this year we'll get a high pick in 2025. Not sure what that QB class looks like though... only disagreement is you can't compare any QB we have to Mahomes or expect him to be anywhere near Mahomes. I'd be thrilled to find a guy a tier below, build out the rest of the roster and get a franchise QB even if he's not completely elite.
-
that's what is so scary for the rest of the league. Last year and this year were both transition/partial retool years with the Hill trade, etc. and they went back to back. They honestly will only get better. Of course other teams can get better as well so we'll see how it plays out but there isn't another QB out there that is anywhere friggin near touching Mahomes right now, nor is there a HC anywhere near touching Reid. At least with the Brady patriots you had Manning, Brees, Rodgers all in that same tier with him, and a few guys barely a tier below who could threaten them in Big Ben, Eli, etc. No one out there on paper even comes close to threatening KC/Mahomes, except maybe a fully healthy Burrow (but even then I think it'll be much tougher for the Bengals now that they paid him, a big reason they could beat the Chiefs before was because he was on a rookie deal). Allen/Bills had their shot, their cap situation is a total mess and they have some aging vets who could be goners. Maybe Harbaugh could get the Chargers close as I do believe in Herbert, but it'll take them some time as the rest of that roster needs some serious work.
