A solid swing tackle who can provide depth at guard too would actually be a great outcome for a 3rd round pick. Not many 3rd round picks actually stick in the league that long.

I believe the NFL changed the IR rules permanently to make it unlimited and anyone can come off of IR when they're healthy. BUT if you put someone on IR before the season they can't come back, the player has to be on your roster after final cuts and then put on IR otherwise they're out for the season. I bet we waive/injure him and no one claims him and he goes on our IR and will be back next offseason (only to likely get cut again unless he takes a step forward).

Mills was a great LB though. Played a very long career and was a 5x pro bowler (when it meant something) and 3x All-Pro, despite being extremely undersized for a LB. That combined with the context of his time with the Panthers (I believe he was the longest tenured original player, and then obviously the leadership as a coach and literally inspiring the team's motto) I think is enough to get in the HoF.

Just saying, I absolutely love Luke, but we don't really have any idea that he's actually an asset in the front office or as a coach. Not all the best players make good coaches, no matter how great their understanding of the game is. There have been plenty of tremendous football minds who just didn't make great coaches/front office personnel.

He can't just go play for Buffalo. He's retired and if he unretired he'd still be under contract with us. I'm 100% positive if he wanted to come back we'd either get a ton of assets for him or tell him he's playing for us or pounding sand. Kinda bugs me to see that but I think it's much ado about nothing.

I’d say he’s about average overall. Those FG numbers are lower than they should be because he attempted a lot of longer FGs that most kickers aren’t expected to make consistently. We definitely need to upgrade there if we’re going to seriously contend, but I don’t think we need to jettison him just for the sake of jettisoning him right now when there really aren’t any better options available.

Whether people like it or not, every single team dealing with players who sat out last year will hold that against them to some degree. A year without football is never a good thing for pro football players, regardless of the reason.
