Happy to see, he’s a solid player, one of the few from the nippleshorts era

The Worst Stretch in Panthers History is Finally Behind Us
t96 replied to Seltzer's topic in Carolina Panthers
The last game I went to was @ the Bucs in 2018. Before that was going to 2-3 games per year despite not living in the area. Tepper and Rhule were such a disaster and my interest in the team definitely dwindled. This offseason so far is potentially saving it. Haven't bought a jersey since McCaffrey in 2018 either. Stroud/Young will be my next one. Almost got a Chinn jersey but didn't wind up pulling the trigger. -
Ok but DJ in Chicago may not be as good as DJ in Carolina...

So then, we’ve got a WR corps to build. What do y’all got?
t96 replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Get 1 or 2 of Brandon Cooks, D Hopkins, Odell, Hardman. And draft one in the 2nd round. Or could draft a tight end or go after Schultz. Having a top tier tight end is every bit as important for a young QB as a WR. -
Schefter: Tepper likes Young, Reich likes Stroud

Pretty much my exact viewpoint as well. We finally have something to be truly excited about — a legit HC and top rookie QB. -
yeah he got absolutely screwed by his preseason injury. If not for that he'd have had a ton of meaningful snaps in the 2nd half of the season and a real chance to prove himself. He's probably lost that because of the injury now with the new staff likely to draft a QB high this year. I like him and hope even if we let him go he can stick around in the league for a while somewhere at least as a backup.
-
I like him as a prospect just not enough to be comfortable trading up to the top 3 for him if that's what it takes. Honestly don't even love the value at 8, I think he should be more of a teens/early 20s guy. But that being said if we do get him I'll still be incredibly excited. Just not as much as if we got Stroud (ideally) or Young.

New trade down theory coming out of League circles

We could get screwed if Falcons or some other team trades up to 2 though -
Panthers are now the betting favorite for the #1 pick
t96 replied to Martin's topic in Carolina Panthers
Not necessarily. Multiple teams have had a lot of success after trading a lot to move up for a QB who wound up busting. 49ers, Eagles, Rams all very recent and applicable examples. If Reich is the real deal we’ll figure out QB sooner or later even if it doesn’t turn out to be whoever we get in this draft if we trade up. -
I like Minshew, I don't think he's the answer nor will he come cheap for a backup but I'd be really happy to sign him and draft a QB. Sam did ok down the stretch last year and is a good dude but let's just end that experiment now
-
It's not exactly the Steelers' MO but I'd love to see him go to a division rival via the non-exclusive tag. Obviously the Browns and Bengals are set at QB so Pittsburgh is the only option there. I think he winds up getting much less of a market than he hoped for and he goes back to the Ravens for a somewhat reasonable (not fully guaranteed) contract. Either way I hope like hell we don't even bother with exploring this. Regardless of the contract (which will have to be ridiculous to snatch him away) I don't want to give up 2 firsts for a QB who won't even be healthy come playoff time and who averages like 2500 passing yards a season
-
Especially considering Kyler went 1st overall and honestly on the field he is a very good player without his size really limiting him at all (and of course Brees and Wilson have had zero issues). Kyler's biggest issue by far is his attitude/commitment. Which is not a concern at all with Young. I like Stroud better but Stroud/Young are clearly the top 2 in a tier of their own in this draft IMO.
-
I think: Falcons roll with Ridder this year, not wanting to pay the price to get a QB in the draft or Jackson. And I think it's a smart move for the longer term, even though he's not their answer, then they re-evaluate next offseason Bucs bring Jameis back to compete with Trask, essentially just rebuilding and tanking for a QB next year We trade up and get Stroud, hopefully solving our QB problem for the next decade +
-
so pretty much $70M guaranteed as that $10M vesting in '24 is a lock. If they do cut him after 2 years before having paid out $100M they'd likely have a massive dead cap hit which makes that pretty unlikely. So $60M officially fully guaranteed but really $70M is 100% and $100M is likely. Way too much for my liking.

yeah that'd be an interesting one, I'm not sure he's the ideal WR2 but he won't cost an insane amount like guys who could fit that bill. With TMJ emerging a bit last year with more competent coaching that's a decent mix of types of players. DJ all around WR1, Mecole top deep threat, TMJ big bodied guy with a catch radius. I doubt we spend enough to get him but it'd be nice to snatch Dalton Schaltz away from Dallas. With our OL from last year, a legit QB and those weapons man we'd be in great shape. Could either re-sign Foreman or get another vet like Jamaal Williams and draft another upside back on day 3 and roll with them and Chuba. I'd be so pumped
-
I think that's what Rap said but that being said it's not uncommon for early reports on guarantees to be misleading
-
Here's hoping. Stroud with this coaching staff would be incredibly exciting. Especially if we can make some shrewd free agent signings to fill in some gaps, like WR2, pass rusher, another corner, LB... It'd be nice if we trade up to 1 ahead of free agency so we can already know what we're going to do in the draft at QB to help shape our FA.

woof $150M with 100 guaranteed. Glad we didn't make that mistake just to be a wildcard round exit at best

The Ravens can’t be this dumb? They’re a smart organization right?

Fair that Mahomes already had his big contract but with him I don't think that makes any difference whatsoever. He's committed to and fully invested in winning. He signed a team friendly deal with pretty damn low guarantees for the best player in the world by far. By all accounts he was never worried about his contract or difficult he's just all about ball. I can't say the same for Lamar. It's the nature of being a running QB, which he 100% is. He takes a ton of hits. Both in and outside the pocket. That stuff adds up, and the hits he takes aren't curling up in a ball protecting himself like a Brady or Matt Ryan would do. They come from all different angles in all different situations which is not good for longevity. He's now let his team with championship aspirations down the past 2 seasons by being hurt and even before that he has never performed well in the playoffs. -
he was fine, was much better when he was independent as blackandbluereview or whatever it was called. Since being hired by the team he's been nothing special at all

Man, he plays recklessly, it's part of why he's so damn good. And if the bolded is actually true then that's an even bigger red flag than injuries. Skipping playoffs when you could've played and your team is a legit contender just because of a contract situation? That's a bitch level move from an alleged "franchise QB." Look at the videos of Mahomes desperately begging Reid to not send him to the locker room when he rolled his ankle. That's what you want out of a franchise QB that you're paying a ton of $$ to.
