  1. There's no one answer to this question, it all depends. Brady had no positive physical attributes except height and just enough of a deep ball (a pretty weak one) to keep defenses honest while utilizing his other strengths to become great at the position. Realistically in this day and age I think you need a bit more agility and arm strength than Brady to be a true franchise QB so there is a physical pre-requisite. It's less about the physical traits once you meet those minimums, although an elite deep ball arm like a Mahomes or Allen or prime Cam had is a factor, and running ability is a factor; factors which can outweigh some of the football IQ deficiencies but if a guy just barely meets the physical pre-requisites he damn well better have an elite football IQ. And on the other hand I don't think Cam's football IQ was elite, it was above average but not elite. All his other traits combined with that made him a top tier elite QB when he was in his prime and healthy. Same with Josh Allen. But guys like Kenny Pickett and Mac Jones just don't have NFL arms to keep a defense truly honest and that is enough of a negative that I don't think guys like that can ever be franchise QBs. All of the top 4 QBs in this draft meet the physical pre-requisites in my opinion. Young's size is more a question of durability than whether he can have success at the position. If we had a magic 8 ball that said he'd stay healthy his entire career here I'm running to the podium with his name on the card. But his frame is just so small that durability is enough of a concern that I think CJ is the better bet at 1st overall. But either way both meet the brains AND brawn as prospects strictly as it relates to playing the position.
  2. nah pretty much everyone wanted Butker and to send Gano packing
  3. For cheap yeah for sure. He has not been good at all in the regular season the last few years but he's a guy who elevates his game in the playoffs. I think he'll cost too much though as he'll get paid for those playoff performances.
  4. I disagree with corner being such a big need. We just need Horn and Donte to stay healthy. Your example of the Bucs is off base as when we had healthy corners we held them to 3 points. In the game Evans smoked us both Horn and Donte were out…
  5. Mental processing, accuracy, pocket awareness, etc. are all forms of talent and both Young and CJ smoke him in those areas. Most physically gifted yes, most upside because of that sure. But most talented, no. He needs a ton of work to have any NFL success.
  6. not a chance. it's Stroud or Young, coin toss
  7. It's possible but I doubt they let Stroud or Young fall to Indy. Those 2 really should be 1 and 2, order is the question
  8. I saw something about the Texans beat seeming to think we're taking Young and they're gonna be "stuck with" Stroud... Not sure I buy it or that they know any more than us but I bet the Texans are trying very hard to get an idea of who we're taking. We also might be fooling them with smokescreens from the last few weeks.
  9. Chinn is a great playmaker but no I don't think he's going to turn into one of the best pass rushers in the league, stacking weight or not.
  10. Tepper and Fitt wanted to sell the farm to get Watson, along with more than a few other teams... No coach is going to admit to wanting or even accepting low character players without football intelligence so I wouldn't read much into this. If a guy helps us win and isn't a locker room issue I don't really care what he does off the field. I still think we got fuged over hard by the Hardy situation. He was a complete idiot but if the league didn't steal him along with that $14M in cap space from us in 2014 I honestly think we could've beaten that Seahawks team and gone further.
  11. Yeah but most players don't have the organizational heart and soul that TD had with his recovery from 3 acl tears and being the epitome of our motto Keep Pounding. Also, most players don't adamantly say they'll never play for another team like TD did several times before he did wind up playing for 2 other teams. Guys like Brady, Rodgers will say "I hope to be a x,y,z my whole career" but TD was very cut and dry. It is what it is and just the nature of the business but I can't lie it still rubs me the wrong way a bit.
  12. I'm still kinda annoyed by TD wearing a different jersey (2 actually). He was so adamant for years he'd never play anywhere else and then boom we don't want him and of course he still felt like he had some left in the tank (he kinda did but not really). I 100% do not blame him but agree about Luke, nice to see him be a career Panther. Also annoyed Cam had to fuging go to that shithole NE, at least he came back here last year. Can't see another team signing him at this point so his last snaps are likely with us.
  13. Yeah Luke and Peyton Manning are the 2 highest football IQ players I've seen, that Super Bowl fuging sucked and Peyton's arm was washed by then but it was still a really cool matchup between the 2 greatest on-field coordinators the league has seen.
  14. Luke's was pretty high at 34 compared to average LB score of 19. https://wonderlictestpractice.com/nfl-wonderlic-scores/ Bobby Wagner got an 8 on it though which is terrible and he's still a likely hall of famer and very good at processing offenses (not Luke level but definitely the 2nd best ILB behind Luke in their career timeframe). There are plenty of factors in the scores though, many guys go into it without preparing at all or thinking about it as there are way more important parts of the process they are preparing for. Tests like this are partly a measure of how well you prepped for that type of test. I've taken a few like it for the air force. I'm guessing Wagner fits that category and if he even prepared a bit in the week leading up to it his score would be much better.
  15. I don't think it's a press conference, just coach interviews at the owners meetings. Like Harbaugh "speaking" yesterday.
  16. I will never see an issue with gathering more info, even if the test is flawed and not indicative of success on its own. Just another piece of the puzzle, not a big or important one, but a piece nonetheless.
  17. Kind of but in context it's not all that far fetched. https://www.statmuse.com/nfl/ask/most-passing-yards-by-a-rookie-quarterback-in-nfl-history All the top seasons are pretty recent and plenty of guys the last few years in the 3700 range, add an extra game and our team's situation being much better than most top QB picks go to and anything less really is a disappointing rookie year from a 1st overall pick we traded so much for. That being said, he could break records his rookie year and still suck long term like Baker/Winston or he could disappoint this year and still be an elite long term franchise QB. The expectations are and should be high for several reasons.
  18. yeah this has been fairly obvious for a while now, despite all the pre-draft chatter. AR has Josh Allen upside but probably a better chance he busts like The Golden Calf of Bristol rather than meets that potential plus even if he does live up to the hype it'll almost certainly be a few years. And Levis has Zach Wilson or Josh Rosen written all over him. Upside is maybe Herbert who is solid but not a top tier franchise guy. Stroud's upside is Burrow who is top tier (well not counting Mahomes who is on another planet). Young's upside is prime Russell if he can stay healthy, maybe even better. And both their floors are much higher than the other 2 guys. Tough decision between those 2 but Levis/AR just aren't even in the conversation. Just due dilligence.
  19. And we are also arguably one of the best situations in league history for a #1 overall QB to go to, with a somewhat proven pass first offensive minded HC, top OL and modern rules favoring passing. Maybe my expectations are too high but with that in mind and the extra game, 4000+ really should be the target. Or at the very least 3500-3700+. 3000 is a very very low bar. Our QBs last year had a combined 3250 passing yards.
  20. Baller from day 1 or not, in a Frank Reich pass first offense our rookie should be able to get 4000+ passing yards in 17 games. I'd be disappointed if our top 3 WRs combine for less than 2000 (accounting for health, i.e. if Chark misses time, whoever moves up in the lineup's stats would count towards that top 3 season cumulative).
  21. I have a strange feeling that not only will he not be worth whatever contract he winds up getting but he'll be out of the league entirely 5 years from now. He should've taken the Ravens' best offer a year or two ago before he tanked his value being unavailable much of the last 2.
  22. Glad you had a good time. Love going to Canes games. But Panthers when they’re actually good are still the most fun to me
  23. I don’t think we were seriously interested in him at anywhere near the price he ultimately got. I think we were set on drafting a QB from day 1 of the offseason
