Are You Really Against Fields or Lance if they fall to #8...
t96 replied to SetfreexX's topic in Carolina Panthers
Is Wilson really a given at #2? Everyone assumes it but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if it's Fields. Many still think he's the clear #2 behind Lawrence, despite Wilson being the talk of the town more recently. Jets could have their cards very close to their chest and be targeting Fields. Lawrence is the only pick that is 100% set in stone. -
Are You Really Against Fields or Lance if they fall to #8...

Fields and Lance are in two different tiers of prospects if you ask me. If Fields is there you run to the podium. If Lance is sitting there along with Sewell somehow, it's not quite as easy of a decision. I really do like Lance and would love to get him at 8 but only if the coaching staff is completely sold on him as being the guy long term (I'd sit him behind Darnold for 1-2 years and try to trade Darnold for assets if he plays well), not just because he's a top QB prospect available there. Sewell would also go a long way towards us having success here long term. LT may be the 2nd most important position behind QB... -
A Look at the Offense & Defense as of -- 4/12/2021
t96 replied to SetfreexX's topic in Carolina Panthers
If we take an LT at 8 and he actually pans out from day 1 I think our line would be a strength. Paradis, Miller and Moton were all great last year. Elflein is a decent flyer, may be a bit of a weakness but if we can hit on a strong LT it shouldn't be a big deal at all. Of course, that's a BIG "if." Especially considering many of the notable LT busts in recent years. -
I did. Them doing initial due diligence to prepare for a potential plan C or D is a lot different than us being locked in on Darnold as a top option to solve our QB problem -- which wasn't the case. Watson/Stafford were plan A, draft plan B (which we apparently determined was a too expensive plan before the draft) and Darnold plan C. It's also been reported no other teams were seriously in on Darnold at the time we traded for him, we should've known that and just kept monitoring him while waiting to see what happens in the draft. There was no reason for a sense of urgency to get Darnold before the draft. Panthers may like Fields at 8 but right now think that we have absolutely no chance to get him there (which is probably correct). Why not let that play out first? Does the team know something for certain that we don't know about the QBs going in the top of the draft? Maybe, but it also can't be 100% certain because teams hold their cards close to their chest... If the seemingly impossible does happen and there's a QB we love sitting there at 8 (because Niners love a different QB than we want and Falcons, etc. go other positions/no trade ups), whether that's Lance or Fields or whoever, it's really not ideal to have needlessly given up fairly significant draft capital for a QB who won't have a realistic chance to be the long term starter here.
-
He was a fallback though, as evidenced by the 49ers' trade up spurring this decision and the notion that we may still take a QB.
-
My question is, why not wait to trade for Sam until after seeing what happens with the QBs in the draft first?

Source: Panthers Open to Drafting Quarterback With No. 8 Pick
t96 replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
We need to figure out QB long term. Darnold has a small chance to be that guy, but very unlikely. A Fields or Lance at 8 has a better chance to be that guy. Added together our odds of finding that long term QB increase. I don't know why anyone would have any issues with this. Plus if we start Darnold this year and he's solid and then the rookie is ready at some point we can get our assets back for Darnold in another trade. If we like one of the top 4 QBs at 8 and he's there then that'll be a great pick. If not, then we're good looking at OT/CB/etc. -
Whoever was responsible for 2019 needs to be shot or something

Jake Delhomme isn't the best comparison either, he wasn't a top 5 pick who started for 3 seasons before switching teams... There are just aren't really many examples of these types of players even switching teams and then getting an opportunity to start this early in their career like this. The other notable one is of course Rosen who completely flopped for Miami but there just isn't a large sample size of comparable situations to go off and try to guess what'll happen here -- one way or another.
-
This is true for his early career in San Diego, but he started 2 full season after drafting Rivers and was a top 5 QB in those years. Not exactly the same as a QB changing teams and then having success like we're hoping happens with Darnold. Brees had tremendous success for 2 seasons in San Diego before going to NO, they let him walk because of the shoulder injury concern not because he struggled like Darnold has.

The Moment You Haven't Been Waiting For - My Three Round Mock Panthers Draft
t96 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Would be thrilled with Sewell at 8, unless Fields is also sitting there and we pass him up (but I doubt that). Not too familiar with the other 2 but I like the idea of another interior OL and a ball hawking S -
Report: CB AJ Bouye close to deal with Panthers
t96 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Honestly with his market seemingly being slim pickings, it might make the most sense for both sides for KK to come back here on a 1 year deal for dirt cheap with heavy incentives. Cheap, consistent, temporary depth for us and a chance for him to rehab his value and potentially earn a decent deal from another team next off season. -
Report: CB AJ Bouye close to deal with Panthers
t96 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
You’re reading too much into that, he has been a starting CB up til now so Gantt characterizing him as that in a tweet means nothing. In the same tweet he lists CB as a potential position we could target in the draft. If we draft a CB and Donte outplays Bouye in camp, AJ won’t start. There’s a solid chance he winds up being one of our 2 best CBs or even our best and starts but that’s no guarantee, depends on who else we draft/sign or if anyone else on the roster already emerges. -
Thanks for putting that together, nice way to look at it. Gonna be a rough couple of weeks at least. Hopefully our injured guys can get back sooner rather than later. I really want to get a top 6 seed, otherwise it's pretty much just an instant elimination at the hands of Philly or Brooklyn, even if we do get healthy. If we can get a top 6 seed I could see us winning a series if we're healthy. Either way I'll be thrilled for our younger guys to get playoff experience, and hopefully Melo is 100% by then so we can see what playoff Melo looks like.

Sam Darnold Game Winning Drives / Comebacks vs Teddy B.
t96 replied to EgoDogg's topic in Carolina Panthers
Yeah I don't think this tells the whole story. Teddy's career stats in 4th quarter/late in games are actually pretty good but we all saw how terrible he actually was in those situations last year. Plus often in those situations the other team knows you're passing and that combined with the terrible OL he had in NY and poor weapons made it a nearly impossible situation. We just gotta hope those factors along with coaching were the reason for his struggles there and not him just being bad. -
Sam Darnold Game Winning Drives / Comebacks vs Teddy B.

https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/D/DarnSa00/splits/ https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/B/BridTe00/splits/ Scroll down to find their stats in the 4th quarter, and when leading/trailing with 4 or 2 min to go... It ain't pretty at all for Darnold. 1 TD, 7 picks when trailing with 4 or less minutes to go. -
@ladypanther Did you write that on his wikipedia page? Always consider the source... Seriously though, I do like Ryan and I'm sure he's on board with the Darnold project. Darnold has the physical talent that Teddy didn't have here, we've got the weapons and depending on how the draft goes we may have the OL too. This will be Brady and company's true test. This offense really should be top 5-10 in the league easily with the amount of talent we have, definitely looking forward to it.

He's studying his lady

Replace Teddy with Darnold, Wentz, Dalton, Fitzpatrick, etc.
-
Teddy, do what's right brother. Take a paycut to go to another team for a chance to start. Win-win-win situation.

Bad thread... 19 seconds of "college film" with random twitter guy "breakdown." Useless.

So that's why we made this trade... Need some help with Melo, Monk and GHayward out...

Ban all the negative nancies. Reward the optimistic skeptics.

Yeah I don't know what his market was maybe it was market price more or less, but regardless I think this was an overpay for what we're getting. The Jets have been the definition of dysfunctional lately and he had poor OL and weapons there, but he was still pretty bad for the most part in his time there. Does he have the tools to be successful? Maybe... But it'll take a hell of a job from Brady and company to get him anywhere near the point of being even good enough to bring this team to the playoffs, let alone a "franchise QB" who can actually win a SB. I generally have an open mind and like letting things play out, but on the surface my initial reaction is definitely that this is not a great move. Hope I'm wrong and he absolutely balls out with weapons and (maybe) an OL here... Sewell is my dream at #8 now, gotta just hope that the Bengals give in to Burrow's wishes for his WR. I doubt they pass up on Sewell but there is a slim chance.
