So then, what are we netting for Teddy and where’s he headed to?
Madwolf replied to davos's topic in Carolina Panthers
Just read an article about takes on the trade. A lot of experts apparently think we're keeping Teddy. They don't think we can trade him, and that it doesn't make sense to cut him. I was actually a little surprised they were so down on Carolina in this trade. They think we got fleeced a bit, which I disagree with even if I don't think it was a great trade. -
Because he's a good guy and won them games. I mean, Teddy hasn't been a great QB, but people went out of their way here to hate him. Thats in large part to him "replacing" Cam. It's annoying as a Panthers and Louisville fan. People need to stop reading into "coach speak" by players and coaches so much.

I can assure you thats not Teddy. Lol.

If we just traded a 2nd, 4th, and 6th for a QB who was rated worse than Teddy, and he's worse than Teddy, then the 3 guys in charge are going to get a lot of blame. Darnold really doesn't have much pressure.

That really depends on the Panthers CAP situation post draft. If there's someone they want, then Teddy could be cut after June 1st. If not they might hold onto him through camp to look at offers. The writing is probably on the wall though before the start of the season. -
Tepper is the pressure

Kind of hate it, but at least now we'll draft a LT while we burn through the husk of Sam Darnold.

I don't believe we'll take a QB on day 2 no matter what

I'd rather spend a 2nd on a QB than Darnold. -
1 Absoulte Certainty: No Teddy 2021 (That is all at this point)

Wouldn't it be Hurney's fault? He was the GM. -
As for who I love, Sewell/Slater > Parsons/Lance > Pitts

I hate it personally. NFL fans universally hate when you "reach" for guys at any position. That is until it comes to QBs. When it comes to QBs, guys are like single fellas coming back to the states after a 12 month war tour willing to take any port in the storm no matter how many red flags there are. There is a lot to like about all of these guys, but there are a ton of red flags too. If this was 15 years ago we'd have 3 of these guys in the Top 10, and 1-2 in the mid to late first round. I'm okay sticking at 8, and ending up with Lance, but I'm not okay trading up for him, and I'm not okay with going Jones. The value is not there.

There is no point in throwing money at any of these QBs if you're going to draft someone this year or next year to be the new Franchise QB. The only QB out there anyone has a shot at worth taking is going to be Minshew. If you want to try him as a true starter, and not a stop-gap, then go ahead. There is no point in signing another QB like Teddy however, if we're going to draft a QB this year or next. That's just throwing bad money after bad money. I realize that has been Carolina tradition for as long as I've been a fan, but it's one we need to stop. -
I disagree a bit, in that I think we actually agree, but this is too much if a black and white conversation with these two options and our individual ideas on what these molds mean. Game Manager to me is a guy who throws 15-20 times a game and lets the run game do the work. Gunslinger is a guy who throws 25-30+ times a game on average and is the primary focus of the offense. To me Tom Brady is a gunslinger in this conversation.
-
Totally agree here. Minshew played well plenty of times on a horrible team. Darnold did not. I just think the price for Minshew will be surprisingly higher than people believe. He's cheap contract wise and has promise. If we know it, so do NFL GMs.

At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is if Watson is in trouble with the NFL, or legally with these cases. As long as that is unknown he's untouchable, and the volume of accusations means he's likely to miss a few games this upcoming season or in the future. It doesn't matter how sleazy lawyers are.
-
Gunslinger because Game Manager is a dying breed with the fall of the rushing offense. A Game Manager can keep you in games these days against good teams, but won't beat great teams you'll meet for sure in the playoffs. The ever evolving passing game has regulated Game Managers to backups.
-
But if you draft Lance, the starter until he steps into the role is irrelevant outside of a mentor role. Teddy is suited for that, and you don't have to spend additional money or draft capital on it. I don't think Minshew will be had for anything less than a 3rd tbh.
-
I like it all except for cutting Teddy and trading for Minshew. You're piling another CAP hit onto the team in Minshew to be a bridge QB.
-
I'll fight you for it! Lol. I love Tutu, don't get me wrong. I just believe that Dez is going to pull in the bigger catches and hold up better at the NFL level at pretty similar speed.
-
Dez Fitzpatrick ran a 4.4 40 at his Pro Day. 6'2", good hands, physical wide receiver. If there's one guy from Louisville in this draft that's who I'd want.
-
To be fair, Teddy didn't run a real RPO offense in college. I'm not sure this is indicative of a QBs NFL tendencies in an entirely new offense.
-
I don't think Jones is penciled in at 3, it could be Fields. Value is better. So it would end up something like: Lance/Sewell/Slater Parsons Pitts Surtain/Darrisaw Jones
-
If I'm the Falcons I'm taking a QB or WR, or robbing some greedy team blind in a trade down.
-
Minshew is the only guy out there I'd like to take a swing at if the price is right.
-
The only time you should trade away young players is if you won't be able to resign them and you're not a good team that year.
