Who missed a pick in a mock draft? That never happens. Tell me right now so I can send them a beer for such a shameful thing on something that is always so obvious!

Would the Panthers sign Lamar Jackson if the Ravens dump him?
Madwolf replied to SizzleBuzz's topic in Carolina Panthers
He was injured on the final play of the 3rd quarter with the score at 17 to 3... -
Happy for Teddy, and it's good for us to move on.

Highly doubt it's all offense. Our defense was still awful last year.

He's headed into his 4th year. How many people said the Colts couldn't win it all with Manning and Dungy? Lamar isn't Mahomes, and has certainly had his struggles in the playoffs, but to act like he can't win a Super Bowl is absolutely silly. He has been the only good offensive piece for that team with any consistency since he's been there. They were in 2 of the 3 games, and the 4th game he got hurt. -

He's one of the winningest QBs at his age in NFL history. -
The “Deep OT class” may not be as deep at LT in scouts eyes

Slater or Sewell. If not why don't we just sign Acele Terree and have him play QB for us for the next 10 years. -
That's against the raiders, one of the worst passing and scoring defenses in the league last year. Teddy threw for 367 against TB last year and no one was wowed. And he HAS been brutal. He's been at the bottom of the league as a passer, lower than Teddy, this past season and wasn't much better his rookie year. Yes, there is reason for hope, but this isn't like when Tannehill went from Miami to the Titans. I'm not saying to not be hopeful. I hope Darnold proves me wrong. All I'm saying is that I don't like the trade because we don't definitively find ourselves in a better position now than we were in January. We're not talking about a rookie here. We're talking about a guy entering his 4th year, and the odds are longer the the worst horse in the Kentucky Derby for us to win this one.

I liked the Teddy signing because I thought it gave us a great guy to mentor whoever we drafted in year 2 or 3 of his contract. With Darnold we don't have a good mentor, and I don't think he puts us in a better position to win games. I'd say it's roughly equal given that he's going to turn the ball over for a minor difference in personal thrown TDs. When I look at the team, and who we acquire, I think it's important that they move us forward vs what we have. Darnold doesn't arguably do that, and we gave up a 2nd rounder and cap space for it. And going back to the "lack of talent" arguement. Why did Robby Anderson have better seasons under Josh McCown and Teddy Bridgewater than under Sam Darnold? Robby was the best WR on that team when he was with Josh, and with Sam, and he still did better under Josh. He did better under Teddy when he was the 2nd and sometimes 3rd best WR on our team. What's the difference between Mike Davis vs Levon Bell and Frank Gore? Whose better between Ian Thomas and Chris Herndon? And was the talent level poor at WR and TE in NYJ because of the actual talent or because of who was throwing them the ball? It's easy to argue it was a bit of both. People are setting themselves up for disappointment acting like Sam Darnold is an obvious upgrade to Bridgewater. ESPN did a breakdown of what chance the draftable QBs would upgrade their QB situation, and they included Teddy in Carolina's and said he had a 72% chance of being better than Darnold. And I absolutely think that the article was questionable in it's methods, because I don't think it's that clear, but I don't understand the fascination with Darnold.

Joe Person on Panthers plans for #8 pick
Madwolf replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
With all of our WRs last year we didn't come close to the playoffs. In terms of offensive line ratings, from the Panthers down (18), no one made the playoffs. When the Panthers went to the Super Bowl and NFC Championship games, they consistently had a good LT starting. WRs who are good or stars are consistently found in the 1st 2 rounds. They also don't have an amazing success rate in those two rounds simply based on order taken. You're statistically just as likely to get a great WR in the 2nd as anywhere in the 1st. -
I think the frustrating part for me, is if we're worried about being stuck in QB purgatory, then adding Darnold and winning another game or two a year doesn't help. I'd rather have rolled with Teddy, PJ, and Will another year than waste draft picks and cap on a QB whose simply been brutal his entire career. He's been worse for his offense than Teddy has when you don't purely look at TDs from the QB. We'd have been better of praying Fields or Lance fall to us, or taking a guy in the 2nd at QB wasting time with Darnold and the cap and picks that went with it. I don't like Fields as a prospect, so I've been harsh on him, but he hasn't failed in the NFL for 3 years. I just don't get the Darnold love. People say Darnold didn't have weapons in NY, but some of that is on him. Josh McCown had no problems making Robby look decent, and neither did Teddy. And the passing game is part of the reason Bell was so much worse there too. Crowder was better elsewhere as well. People hated Teddy because he was nothing, but also not Cam. People are loving Darnold because he is nothing, but not Teddy. I want a LT because at least we can suck and protect someone we draft next year.

Based on what? Our QB getting sacked and eventually carted off before he can toss it to Chase? -
Darnold panning out is almost assuredly not going to happen. I actually don't mind taking a QB at 8, the real frustration is that we wasted draft capital and CAP trading for a QB before the draft. We talk all the time about hating Marty for bad asset management. If we draft a QB at 8 it doesn't bode well for this group being any better than the last.
-
If one of the top two LTs are there you take them. I wouldn't waste the pick on a WR. You historically have just as good of a shot of drafting a great WR in round 2 as round 1.
-
I remember being so pissed when we traded up for Little. Before the pick was in I told my buddies we were going to pick Little and it was a horrible pick.
-
Love Tutu, but my main concern with him has been his bulk. I thought he was heavier than that in college. He can outrun everything, but at that weight he has to.

Honestly I don't think the difference between Teddy and Darnold is there. People being excited about Darnold is baffling to me. Based on what? Him not being in New York? Teddy regressed from New Orleans to Carolina. Are we excited because Tannehill got better? Tannehill showed that he had it plenty of games before he went to the Titans. When has Darnold shown anything closed to that. If Sam Darnold is our QB last year it's a tough argument to say we're better than a 5 win team. And people are thrilled to have Darnold, because they believe he makes a playoff team. But he doesn't make us a Super Bowl team which leaves us stuck in QB hell of being a forever Wild Card team without the ability to make it to the NFC Championship. Isn't that the hell everyone was afraid of with Teddy? And our savior is a QB whose stock seems to be falling headed into the draft? It worked out so well for us with Greg Little in a similar scenario. I can't imagine being in a situation where we have a Top 10 pick, a 2nd, 4th, 6th, 2 bad contracts, and a rookie contract invested in 3 bad QBs. But anything for a QB! Jon Gruden in his last year in Tampa is absolutely envious of our QB situation and thinks we could take a QB with our first 6 picks! If we draft a QB in the 1st everyone in the organization should be fired unless it's Lawrence or Wilson without a trade
-
I'm not so high on Fields, Darnold, or Teddy at this point. I think if you draft Fields you have 3 bad options. Take a LT so when we're bad this year we have a shot at a good QB next draft.
-
Because he never graded out as an NFL LT. Most guys during the draft had him shifting inside and his stock was falling leading up to draft day. Marty Marty'd and drafted him too high based on *waves hand around* Marty magic, we kept him at LT, and he's turned out frankly worse than expected.
-
I think they'll probably renegotiate his contract in a move to make him more tradeable, and also make him more palatable to the Panthers. If no trade happens you let him compete with Darnold and back him up unless we have a signing we need to make where cutting him makes more sense.

Sewell or Slater

Don't do that. Don't give me hope.
