  1. ^ Also, not to mention there are like 6 different ways/machines to do shoulder presses.
  2. It's like the adult version of kids in the sandbox at the park. He used you just to steal your toy, and wanted nothing more to do with you when he got bored with it. People are hilarious if you just take a second to reflect on it. Haha.
  3. I did chest today, but then again I went at like 10:45, so there wasn't a lot of traffic. I also started doing legs three days a week. The girlfriend likes to pick on my bird legs, so I'm paying extra attention to them. My body chemistry just does not produce weight in my legs, so they are relatively smaller. Then again, I'm not a big guy to begin with. Got some good chest work in, as well as leg presses, calves, and deadlifts. I'll probably do some squats on Wednesday, along with more calves, and save my second set of deadlifts for Friday, when I do more legs . . . Right now I'm more about cardio, so I'm doing supersets with lighter weights. I'll probably slow it down next week, though, and really concentrate on slower reps with more resistance. Cheers, y'all.
  4. You also have to have a fairly strong core to do that many in a row. I definitely can't do that many at once.
  5. I do 200, 3 days a week for a total of 600. I do them in increments of 20, though. Don't want to risk re injuring my right shoulder. It's a great chest exercise. People place too much emphasis on the bench press. Nothing wrong with the bench, really. Just saying people underestimate the power of the push up.
  6. Never have shame. Improvement is improvement. Did some more deadliest yesterday, and my back and legs were not near as sore as they were after my initial jumping back into them. Did: 135x8 185x6 230x4 I didn't do anymore after 230. Still feel like I need to take it slow, plus I evidently hadn't stretched enough and my hamstrings were starting to tighten up; I was a little apprehensive to keep pushing them. Just trying to get back into the routine of things. ETA: A buddy of mine turned me on to this Freeletics website. It's essentially calisthenics that stress either or both strength and cardio, the idea being to improve your time. Gotta say, right now I like it. I have IT band issues, so I can't run as much as I used to [my long stride just exacerbates the tendon]. Kicks my butt in about 10 minutes.
  7. I hear what you're saying. Just really trying to get a feel for where I'm at after about a month off of deadlifts. Gonna get my routine down next time.
  8. Started back deadlifts today. 135x6 and 225x6 Yeah, I'm a little wimp. Back is a little tight right now, but not that "bad" kind of tight. I feel confident increasing weight and getting back into a more consistent routine. Felt good, man. Felt good.
  9. So who's going to work tomorrow?
  10. I was lifting the other day and had my noise-canceling earbuds in when suddenly this cacophonous reverberation of sound inundated every foot of every square of the gym (padded floor too, mind you). I was flabbergasted. What could this be? Took my earbuds out, and low and behold, it's the echo of a grunter grunting. Finding the epicenter was difficult, but I located the source after a few tremors. It was coming from the cables. And it was coming from some Herculean woman using the cables. Hey, I'm non-judgmental. You want to break the barriers genderizing has erected, then go for it! You have the constitution and physical fortitude to get to and maintain <5% body fat? Damn! You go! But please, for the love of God, do not try to provide your neighbors from one end of the gym to the next with intermittent tunes of stress belches; we have our own music. Moreover, do not do so while performing lat raises with cables.
  11. Hmmm, good to know. I don't know how my tolerance will be. Hopefully I don't get too used to it; stuff ain't cheap.
  12. Has anyone ever tried Cellucor C4 EXTREME? I have experimented with pre-workout mixes in the past, and my initial takeaway from using this product is that it is really effective. Gives you a disconcerting tingle once it's digested [about 20 minutes] that lasts for about 10 minutes. I'm guessing that will go away as I get used to it, though. No jitters or crashing afterward. Definitely pushed through today with no problems; even ran an extra mile.
  13. I know the CEO/Co-owner of Workout Anytime. He's a good guy and has been in the business for a long time. He keeps trying to get me to buy into setting up a gym, but I'm having trouble finding an adequate location. Good luck getting back into shape, dead lifts or not.
  14. I understand opposite views might be out there about Planet Fitness. But as a one-time assessment, I can't really complain too much. I did see three guys in there that had tremendous muscle mass, so PF can't be too unaccepting of more "advanced" health goals. Anyway, I'll probably go once a week as part of my weekend errands. I'll post my experiences. Anyway, woke up today feeling refreshed. I have probably lost about 4 inches in my beer gut. Some fat, some bloat, some water weight. In either event, my stomach mass is improving. Starting to see more definition in my obliques, chest, upper abs, and shoulders. I feel like I'm finally starting at 0 as opposed to the -10 I began at, so to speak. Guess I'm going into phase 2. BTW, no special pills like hydroxycut, advocare, or anything similar. I am using some Super Cleanse pills right now, but I do that about once a year anyway to flush my system. Other than that, it's just been keeping a good diet and going to the gym. That and I'll spontaneously break out into lunges or jumping jacks while walking down the sidewalk--ha...joking...sorta...maybe a pushup or two Breakfast this morning: High-fiber Oatmeal with berries and walnuts [used skim milk] Banana Rickland Orchards greek yogurt granola bar [best granola bar on the market; Walmart has them the cheapest of all the places I have looked]
  15. A little self-control, fellas. Food like that doesn't temp me in the least. Idk how it could, especially after working out.
  16. Worked out at Planet Fitness today. I get in free as my girl friend's guest. I gotta say, I came away highly impressed. No sauna or steam room, but they do have tanning beds for when the summer comes around (or year-round if that's your thing). She pays $20/month. Loads of cardio. Two of some machines so you don't wait. Two circuit training areas, one for cardio and strength, and one for abs. The cardio circuit lasts for 30 minutes and is definitely something that keeps you focused. Works great as a warm up if you wanna go light and get your muscles moving. Floor plan is great; nice and big. Not that much in the way of free weights, but I don't think enough people use them to interfere with any workouts.
  17. So, fairly certain a hurt my right shoulder doing, of all things, pushups. Just goes to show that anything can happen without warming up. I was still able to get some military presses out today, but I could definitely feel the pain lurking. Not enough to be concerned about, but you definitely take notice.
  18. Muscle relaxer? Might make you a little drowsy, though.
  19. Ding ding. It's not that my lower back has most of the stress, it's just that the stress it does bear tends to aggravate it more than it should. I could probably start back up again, but out of an abundance of caution, I'm making sure my back is 101%
  20. Should we start an offshoot thread for DL? Ha. As for me, I'm too chicken to start doing them again. Maybe another week or two of lower back focus before I'll feel comfortable putting that type if strain on it again. Think I'll start out with an earth-shattering 135.
  21. Jerry, that you? On a serious note, just walk up and grab the weight you need, no matter if it's right beside them. After all, they're the ones being the asshole; having to crowd them to grab your weight is just a subtle way of letting them know. Now, if it's the weight you need, then you have no reason to bitch.
  22. I let one rip just reading that. Can't imagine going through a full week. That's something I would have to build up to.
  23. Sunday is my usual day off, but I did run 5 miles on Saturday, and instead of taking off Sunday, I did light cardio for about 45 minutes. Still broke a sweat, but only did enough to keep my muscles warm. Headed to the gym here in a few to get some chest work in. Also started a cleanse today. Should last for no more than 30 days.
  24. Had a "cheat meal" for my Super Bowl dinner, and, man, do I feel like I just negated over a month of strict dieting and cardio. Had three beers and five chicken wings. I woke up this morning huge and bloated. Shook my confidence big time. Anyway, the past 4 days haven't exactly been the greatest: lamb chops one night, two night of sushi [too much sodium], and then the SB party. I'm guessing a week of lean eating will cure the ill effects of those meals. Gotta push through.
