Moral of the story: when being accused by a female of doing something bad, even if there is no evidence, you are guilty until proven innocent and it is morally imperative to destroy your career and punish you not only during the trial, but after the courts dismiss the claim.

In what way isn't it? Are you seriously arguing tampering with equipment isn't worse than a holding call? This isn't too far off from yacking half a yard off the chain gang's chain, setting the play clock to run faster for the other team, or hacking into the other team's helmet signal. It's illegal and it is suspendable.

This isn't like a holding call - it's like a player running off the bench and tackling someone. You do that, you'll get ejected and probably suspended too.

The only problem there is there is no provision anywhere in the NFL rulebook to change the result of a finished game. It's the same thing in the NCAA - once the game is over, the result is final. Short of Goodell suspending the Patriots franchise, there is literally nothing that can be done to change the outcome.

That's the perfect comparison here. Watergate came in the midst of a campaign where Nixon won 61% of the vote against someone so libera they lost every state but Massachusetts and DC, and yet he was still delusional enough to think he needed to break the law to win. Nobody in their right mind thinks the Patriots would have lost that game because of football deflation, but Bill Belichick does these stupid things that make no sense to increase the odds even further. The Patriots were always going to beat Indianapolis. Why bother with this?
