  1. The last two-way player. RIP.
  2. Yep. Youth football is very safe. I've been at 30 or so youth games the past few years and I've never once seen a serious injury or even a concussion.
  3. Ugh. This is the nightmare scenario that made us pay Charles Johnson a boatload of money...
  4. Correct list, except in between 1 and 2 should be 'get a time machine'. That's required to access the video store.
  5. So why are you angry at him for accepting a good contract, rather than at management for paying him a lot of money to only get 30% of carries each year?
  6. And how is that his fault? Please elaborate on that.
  7. According to FO he was in at least one category. And again... HIS CONTRACT IS NOT HIS FAULT. Stop blaming him for it. He did about as much as you'd expect an aging back splitting carries three or four ways to do. If anything you should be more pissed off at Jonathan Stewart.
  8. FO pegged his season as being top ten or even top five. Not a stretch to call that "excellent". I'd argue he's had three 'excellent' seasons, with 'excellent' defined as being top ten or top five: 2008, 2009, and 2011. He was a top-five or ten back those years. His 'good' seasons (2007 and 2013) were middle-of-the-road type years. The only truly bad years he's had were 2012 and 2014. And yes, you did. You said he hadn't done anything in the last four years.
  9. I agree Stewart had a good season... really an underlooked one. I just don't think there's any way you can justify saying Williams didn't have a good year as well, though. And you've been so critical of Williams that's why you have the reputation. I agree the contract was a bad idea. Was it Williams' fault for taking it, though? No. I agree with cutting him. Was it his fault? Yeah. I agree that his production steadily declined. I hope he has a nice year and can crack 10,000 yards from scrimmage before he retires. I just don't see a reason to trash him as a '3rd or 4th option' on the Steelers. That's absurd when you look at the backs behind him. He's not a horrible player - he's average. Maybe slightly above average with a good line.
  10. Because we used him extensively in the receiving game, while DeAngelo was not.. As I mentioned, FO saw him as the better back and DeAngelo as also being top ten. He had nearly 1,200 total yards (about as much as DeAngelo had in 2013, FTR). I understand you don't like DeAngelo Williams. But 2011 was a really good year for him - statistically or otherwise. Not being as good as one player does not mean you aren't good.
  11. I disagree. He got more carries than Stewart and more touchdowns. On a whole I think the rushing attack was very good that year - Football Outsiders gave them the best running DVOA in their history, more than the 2000 Rams and 2002 Chiefs. Moreover the rushing attack was fairly balanced - DeAngelo got more carries and had a few more touchdowns, while Stewart had an extensive role in the screen game (47 catches). Both had 5.4 YPC. Football Outsiders had him as eight in DYAR (yards above replacement), third-best back in terms of DVOA (defense adjusted value over average) and 10th in YAR (yards above replacement). To be fair, in those same categories Stewart ranked higher - fourth in DYAR, fifth in YAR, and second in DVOA. But DeAngelo certainly did not have a bad year. For comparison, in 2012 DeAngelo ranked 25th in DYAR, 28th in YAR, and 26th in DVOA. That was a genuinely awful season. In 2013, DeAngelo was 12th in DYAR (a generic back would have finished with 126 less yards than he did), 20th in YAR, and 16th in DVOA. That's a fairly average season, which I contend would have been better if we didn't play Stewart at all. So really I don't think it is fair to say DeAngelo didn't do anything. Now, should we have resigned DeAngelo after 2010 in hindsight? No. Drafting Cam made either him or Stewart expendable, and there is no need to pay two backs good money to split carries when you have a QB who will take 30% of the carries and yards. Stewart was younger so we should have signed him. To me, it's very hard to get into a rhythm when you only get 10 carries a game - that's part of the problem. But we had him, and given our situation he didn't do half bad.
  12. 4 million over two years is a bit much for a camp body. They are not going to have Dri Archer or Josh Harris starting the first two weeks. He is going to start the first two games. He might actually play well because they have a good line. After that, he'll be a backup the rest of the season. I know that doesn't compute with your whole 'DeAngelo sucks he's terrible nobody likes him he's garbage shouldn't have a job he kills puppies and eats unicorns and fumbles' thing. But you aren't a GM.
  13. 2011 - Excellent season. 836 yards and 7 TDs for a YPC average of 5.4, while splitting carries three ways. About as good as you can ask for in that situation. 2012 - Bad season. However, that last game against New Orleans is the best game a Panthers back has ever had. 2013 - Good season. Nearly 1,200 total yards in 15 games, and a respectable 4.3 YPC average - especially when you consider he only had 6 20+ yard runs. I did a whole post on how he was actually pretty good during the 10 games he played without having to split with Stewart. See it 2014 - Bad season. First game was alright, and it was downhill from there. Roughly as bad as Jonathan Stewart's 2013 season. In short - one excellent season, two good seasons, two bad seasons. Not ideal, but he's certainly not 'done nothing'
  14. Yeah CRA you obviously know so much more about the Steelers than their GM. Their 2x Super Bowl winning GM is just too stupid to see how DeAngelo is an awful terrible no good person who sucks and can't run and fumbles all the time and is injured all the time and that isn't better than their rookies who both had amazingly awesome seasons next year. What was he thinking?
  15. These people are seriously delusional. If they don't think DeAngelo's done anything in four years I don't know what team they've been watching.
  16. He didn't even play last year. He signed with Chicago and they cut him before the season began.
  17. Lol he's easily their second best back and is probably going to start the first two games (Bell will be suspended for drug use). Do you seriously think Dri Archer and Josh Harris are better? Just because you don't like DeAngelo Williams does not mean he is garbage and will not get playing time. And no, that's not at all what you were saying. I noted DeAngelo Williams had more 1,000 yard seasons. You said Stewart had more 10 TD seasons so it must be even. I called your BS and you've backtracked completely after being proven wrong.
  18. Deangelo Williams 1-yard TDs 2008 - 5 (4 in Green Bay game, 1 against New York) Jonathan Stewart -yard TDs 2008 - 1 (Chicago) Strictly speaking, yes, although that's only because Stewart had most of his TDs in the 2-5 yard range. How about TDs inside the ten yard line? DeAngelo Williams >10 yard TDs - 7 (1 at Atlanta, 4 vs GB, 2 at New York) Jonathan Stewart >10 yard TDs - 8 (2 vs. Chicago, 1 at Minnesota, 1 vs. Atlanta, 2 vs. Tampa, 1 vs. Denver, 1 at. NO) I think that's definitive considering Stewart only had 10 TDs while DeAngelo had 18. So yeah. The one season we give DeAngelo red zone chances (the vast majority of which come in one game against Green Bay), he did a decent job. But most of his TDs come on long runs.
  19. I like DeAngelo but that is not going to happen.
  20. You mean the power back got more goal line carries? Wow! Impressive.
  21. That's a better rate than Jonathan Stewart.
  22. He's a good compliment to Bell and has a good line to run behind.
  23. Cam - The four-turnover Arizona game. Luke - The pass interference penalty that wiped out a game-sealing interception in the Buffalo game. Those are as bad or worse than DeAngelo's fumble. I do not think it is fair to judge an entire season off one play, especially one that didn't cause us to lose the division or miss the playoffs. As for productivity, I disagree. DeAngelo was playing excellently (aside from the fumble) the first three games - in fact, he was a workhorse. He had 62 carries (21 per game) for 291 yards (4.7 YPC), and was getting around 70% of carries. This makes sense considering Cam's rib injury. Once Cam improved and Tolbert was given more carries, his production tapered off a bit after that, but in the 7 games before Jonathan Stewart returned he had 114 carries (16 per game) for 477 yards (4.2 yards per carry), or about 68 yards per game. Extrapolated over an entire season, that's nearly 1,100 yards. That's not great, but it's pretty good for an older back splitting carries with two other backs (Tolbert and Cam) while running behind a fairly bad line. Once Jonathan Stewart returned, his production plummeted. In the five games he split carries with Stewart (he missed one game due to injury), he only had 50 carries (10 carries per game) for 185 yards (3.7 yards per carry). For comparison, over those five games Stewart had 34 carries for 141 yards (4.2 yards per carry). In the remaining three games without Stewart, he had 37 carries (12 per game) for 181 yards (4.9 yards per carry). So, in the 10 games where he wasn't splitting with Stewart, he had 151 carries (15 per game) for 658 yards (4.4 yards per carry). Over a whole season, that would be roughly 240 carries for 1,050 yards. Once again, not great numbers, but pretty good for our system (with carries split between two other runners). Take out the Jonathan Stewart games and he has a fairly decent rushing season.
