I get trying to call plays designed to build confidence for your QB, but you have to be able to throw downfield. If Bryce cannot do that then it's time to put someone in who can. I mean 18/26 for 84 yards, that's not going to beat anyone
-
Very well said! I know it's been a while since we tasted success, but man, everyone needs to just chill a minute. At least give them the season to see growth and development, I mean, change doesn't happen instantly. Something tells me we'll be surprised.

Dude, does it not seem that way? For real? -
Derrick Brown potential season ending knee injury

Oh, it's official. Again, this is a snake bitten organization. Difference maker DT season ending KNEE surgery (ALWAYS the freaking knees) no, couldn't be a second or third string CB. It all falls in line with how cursed we are. -
Saints put on their kickers and kicking a lot of, lol

Jag was the wrong word to use. I'm fresh out of spinal surgery, so was a big foggy when I wrote that. Guess what I was saying was that Rice was expected to be all pro level his rookie year. He even admitted that he really struggled his rookie year, but yeah, the signs were there and decent numbers. All we can hope for is the same with Legette... and who knows, maybe at some point in the season it happens. Guy has the goods, we've seen it. Lets see if it manifests.
-
Yes, those were good numbers, but nowhere near what they were after his rookie year. Was just saying, even arguably the best receiver ever had to adapt, adjust and learn during his rookie year. We're talking maybe the best ever. Lets just give Legette time, let him adjust. He may not put up 927 yards on 49 catches. Or maybe he surprises, catches on and explodes after a bit of time this year. Lets just be patient and see. This guys has all the makings of a big time playmaker.

Jerry Rice struggled mightily in his rookie year. Looked very raw. Watch the documentary on him. He was a jag his rookie year.
-
But I think they were willing to risk a bit of a raw first round pick (yes, I know) in hopes they he develops into that generational talent. The kid has all the goods. Jerry Rice struggled big time his rookie year, keep that in mind.

It's raining on the refs too you know.

Panthers Select Xavier Legette WR - Pick 32, Round 1
Dragoon11 replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
I mean, that's a very coachable trait. If he has the dawg in him like Morgan and the organization says they are trying to find, then that will be a non factor. What did the experts say about Smitty during his draft? Remind me. -
We've had what you could call 2 decent QB's the entire franchise history. Generational QB's do not grow on trees. You draft, and most of the time it's a crapshoot whether they work out or not. Unfortunately, a lot of times you just get lucky, or not. The two other QB's have only played two games as well, let's see what they look like 10 weeks from now, Young as well... before we label him as a bust. Saying the other two have shown potential is saying nothing. Young has shown potential too... it's all subjective.
-
Prevent defense is only prevent to the red zone. Then the field is small and you have to earn your money. Panthers were still very much in it at that point. I think there was like four and a half minutes left but the defense could not sustain. He looked the part on that drive.
-
And I think that is what Young is doing. I think he IS a very cerebral QB that you can tell is trying to absorb it all and it is a bit overwhelming. OF COURSE it is! But, I have a feeling that this kid is not sitting on his laurels. I'll guarantee you he is working, watching film, and consuming as much knowledge as he can. Stroud and AR might be doing better for now. But, NFL defenses WILL adjust and find their weaknesses... they watch film too. I would rather Young make mistakes right now because he is processing at the pace he needs, then suddenly, you just see it happen. It kind of happened with Lawrence last year. People need to just chill... all players develop and grow differently. We cannot expect a rookie QB with an all new coaching staff to be an all pro his rookie season, it's just nonsense what is being said. It's not a good look for our fanbase.

Bullcrap!!! I don't see ONE freaking player on that offense that can take a 5 yard slant and turn it into a 75 yard TD. Shenault did it ONE time last year. How old is Theilen now? And he has always just been a 3rd down possession/red zone guy, not a home run hitter. He showed what he is tonight. And like you said, Hayden Hurst has been MODERATE. Chark had 1 season where he looked like he may be THAT guy and since has done nothing. Who else do we have that NFL defenses just fear? NO ONE!! Sanders... potential, but NO CMC, TMJ? lol. We need to give Young time. Time to gel with his receiving corps and time for players to hopefully emerge.
-
Really? I've seen plenty of zip in his throws. More than enough to be a great QB in this league. The kid is processing and learning at a level that works for him. He's adjusting to the speed of NFL players, which EVERY rookie QB has problems with. Going from college to the NFL is a difficult transition. He has to learn a way more complicated playbook, learn to gel and bond with new teammates and coaches, has to build chemistry with his skilled offensive players (in which we're not seeing ANY that want that next level), has to learn to adjust at the line of scrimmage (understanding NFL defensive schemes) in a way you do not in college, and so much more... Damn, you all act like this stuff should be easy. Every part of our team right now is brand new and for EVERYONE on the team. How about we give it a season (you know, the way people did when we didn't live in an instant gratification world, full of ADD people and keyboard expert analysts) before we completely write this kid off as a bust. Jeez.. SERIOUS, we're two freaking games in. I bet you that this kid gets better as the season progresses. And, by the end of the season everyone will be singing a different tune. If not, I'll say I'm wrong and we'll see what next season brings. Trevor Lawrence looked like trash for a while... he looks pretty good now. How is that possible? Don't you think we should be rooting for this guy instead of writing him off after two weeks in an NFL uniform? What kind of fan base is this? Did everyone think this would be a playoff year? SMH!
-
The coaching staff is playing too carefully. They need to open the playbook and see what the kid can do. It seems like they are giving him training wheels and trying to develop him too conservatively a little at a time.
-
Yeah, we'll see how that pans out over 17. lol
-
Because Cam was in a league of his own. AR nowhere near what Cam was.

Yeah, before Carolina got a team I was a Cowboys fan. Look at Dallas in the 90's when they built their dynasty. Troy Aikman started his first season and they went 1-15 I think. Aikman played his first NFL preseason game on August 26, 1989 against the Denver Broncos. His NFL debut started with a 28–0 loss to the New Orleans Saints. The following week, Aikman threw his first touchdown pass, a 65-yard completion to Michael Irvin, but the Atlanta Falcons intercepted two passes and won. In a game against the Phoenix Cardinals, he threw for 379 yards to set an NFL rookie record. Aikman finished 1989 with a 0–11 record as a starter, completing 155 of 293 passes for 1,749 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions. Pretty rough first year as a rookie, right? But, we know what happened each year after. I know we live in a world of instant gratification, but sometimes we need to be realistic. So, everyone just take a collective sigh and lets see how the season plays out. Hopefully we will start seeing optimistic improvements as the season progresses.
