  1. They had to move on from Carr or McDaniel. They couldn't afford(literally) to fire McDaniel so Carr it is.
  2. Right now we have 1 QB that has never thrown an NFL pass and was "developing" under Matt Rhule. We're getting a retread, no matter what. The question is who are we going for and how much are we going to pay. If Carr comes at a bargain, great. If not, expect a Darnold or Brisset. This team is not going into TC without a QB that's taken at least a few NFL snaps.
  3. I almost hoped Payton would go to Indy. I guess Irsay and Payton didn't sniff each other out.
  4. He's probably on a flight over Nebraska right now making his contributions to the Huskers.
  5. Carr doesn't feel as much like a cast off as he does like a FU to the Raiders. That place has been a revolving shitshow for years. That doesn't absolve him of his piss poor play obviously, but it doesn't have the same feel as Darnold or Baker.
  6. That's what I genuinely hope for. It's one thing to recruit young talent. It's quite another when the talent recruits you because they know you have the best opportunity for growth and advancement.
  7. Not to mention minority promotions may net 3rd round picks. I would love to see some of the best and brightest start coming through Carolina as well.
  8. Would be a very good idea with the amount of coaches that get poached every year. Also, if this tree is successful, we will be a favorable destination for up and coming coaches and coordinators.
  9. I'm genuinely curious how much of the staff, being so experienced and diverse, was Fitts and Morgan part of selecting and not just Reich. If they are somewhat involved it helps boost my confidence in our FO duo that Rhule really was holding them back.
  10. NFL going to need a coaches salary cap by the time we're done. I'm good with that.
  11. I think Luke could be amazing in a QB room. Show them exactly what defensive guys are thinking and how to break it apart.
  12. The not finishing the past 2 seasons could be a huge red flag for someone wanting to set the market on a fully guaranteed contract at the QB position. I think that part of the contract is a big part of the sticking point in the discussion.
  13. Unless he's calling the plays as HC, I wouldn't be worried about the type of offense that he ran in the SB so much. The fact that Philly put together an offensive juggernaut this season shows he has the offensive mind that is needed in a franchise in today's offensively driven NFL.
  14. Never said it was because of race. Not sure where you got that. I was agreeing with you that there has to be something else going on behind the scenes that's causing him not to get that HC job offer.
  15. I have confidence we now have the ability to develop a QB. Cam was a very good QB for us, but his development didn't really progress much here. Watching Mahomes, it makes me wonder what Cam could have become under a guy like Reid. Having the ability to recognize, understand, and develop a QB is just as important as the talent level IMO.
  16. I don't mind taking a shot. I minded when we had Ron and Captain DumbAss as HC, neither of whom had any idea about running an offense or how to use a QB. I'm a little less worried now that we have some offensive grown ups in the building.
  17. The only reason IMO to trade up is you've done all you're scouting and there is one guy that is head and shoulders above everyone else in your book. If it's 50/50 between 2 guys, no need to move unless you're pretty sure they're going to go before your pick. I don't think you move unless you're sure of the skill level of the player you're drafting.
  18. He never really struck me in his pressers as a guy I could listen to talk football for hours. Greg just talks football like one of the guys you would hang out with and that makes for very good announcing.
  19. I still wonder if the issue between his ears can be resolved now that we have an actual offensive minded coach. Gase and Rhule were both complete ass and 2 of the worst HCs he could have had. I've said before sometimes guys just process learning differently (I'm in that boat) and that may be the case or it may not. As a vet backup, he's worth the cost to bring him back depending on our options. Maybe he could develop under someone who's not completely incompetent. Either way, don't care.
  20. There's something definitely going on there behind the scenes. I know there's been mention of some legal things potentially, but he must be horrible at interviewing or his coaching tree he could actually pull from is very limited.
  21. Teams with a 4 score lead at halftime are 0-1. Fug the Falcons and Matt Ryan.
  22. It just happened with Russell Wilson. That didn't turn out well so far. Could that change under Payton? Sure. But RW looked like ass. Denver gave up a ton of picks and salary cap for him and got basically nothing. It's not just the picks. It's the salary cap implications as well. If Lamar is looking in the range of 50m a year guaranteed or more long term, which is what it's sounding like, who are you going to let walk? Burns. Chinn. Icky when it's time. Moton. DJ. Horn. Burns contract could be in the neighborhood of 25-30m per season. How do you fill in the rest of your team paying so much in salary? You need picks to replenish talent that is inevitably going to walk for a bigger paycheck that the team can't provide. And those picks will be sitting in Baltimore. Plus you have to hope he can play the entire season, because the past 2 he has missed several games to injury. Half the league may be willing to give up the picks to get the others, but would they be running to the mat if it was 50-60m per year fully guaranteed? I'm not against bringing in LJ, though I really think we should build through the draft. I'd be saying the same thing if it was Herbert, Burrow or Allen, especially Allen. His playing style and that elbow injury is very concerning if a fully guaranteed contract were in play. I'm against the combination of salary cap implications and traded picks that could very well leave the team hamstrung. The whole thing really depends on what LJ contract price would be and what Baltimore would want in trade.
  23. The goal isn't just to get a franchise QB. The goal is to build a team around a franchise QB. If you cripple your ability to do that, then you likely waste your franchise QB. That's why you rarely see teams trade for franchise QBs. They can't afford the salary and the picks. You can do one or the other, not both.
  24. Grass should have gone down the day after Arizona's last home game. That would have given it a chance at least to become a legit playing surface
  25. Derek Carr won't cost nearly what Lamar will and there's no guarantee Lamar gets you a SB win. If you want Lamar, prepare to give up at least 3 1sts and a couple 2nds, plus 50 to 60 a year fully guaranteed. It's difficult to build a team when you don't have picks or the cash to replenish players lost to retirement, injury or FA. I don't think Carr will get us to the SB, and Im not advocating for him, but to think what it's going to cost to acquire either isn't going to affect your ability to build a team is ludicrous.
