It's a much longer time frame, but this is very similar to how things went with Norman except for Gettleman rescinding the tag and getting nothing in compensation. A highly inexperienced "agent" negotiating a monster contract against professional NFL contract negotiators. It was never going to go well.

Mike Kaye: Panthers looking to add EDGE player
SmokinwithWilly replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
If he doesn't get an agent soon we may be able to get him for a handful of magic beans. -
That's what I've been saying for a while. He's lost more than he ever saved by not having one. I'd say at least 3-4x more.

His agent was his mom. She may have had his best interests at heart but was completely out of her element negotiating a massive NFL contract. If LJ had hired an agent day 1 he would already have been paid.

Watching what's happened with LJ is a lesson to every other player about trying to do it yourself with a mega contract and what not to do. He has botched this just about every way possible.

What do you want to do with pick #39?

My ankles hurt watching this guy. -
Don't see him there at 39, but if he is, that pick will be faster than our Jordan Gross pick way back.

Edge would be good but a bigger rush up the middle would be more impactful. Interior pressure is key to QB disruption and something we’ve lacked. Id like to see us get better at 39 there. Edge is deep this draft and i think we can get someone there who may not be as good as one at 39, but still better than YGM. -
I always thought it was worth discussing if the terms were favorable and it gave a rookie QB a chance to transition similar to what Mahomes did. They weren’t even close to favorable, so yeah, we’re better off with him in NO.

The topic was always about team building, and we disagreed drastically, especially about Lamar and Rodgers. Its all good. The sad part in all of this is how severely Lamar has hurt himself by not getting an agent. Going for a rookie QB has always been the best option as long as we didn’t ridiculously overpay, which we didn’t. Now it’s just a matter of getting it right.

Carr was never worth what he got paid. These FA contracts are getting ridiculous.

Live video of Fitterer / Reich making the trade to #1

Don't you have a birthday party to go to? -
Also for whatever reason, Arthur Smith decided he didn't need to be part of the offense. I thought he may have been on the outs or something with the coaches or staff by how much he was being neglected. If he's being used that little again this year, a trade next offseason might not be a bad thing if we could somehow get past that whole division rival thing.

A 2 TE set with 2 WRs and Sanders at RB has so many pass catching options there's no way for a defense to effectively cover them all. Unlike trotting Thomas and Tremble out there. Don't really have to worry about much with those 2. -

It really depends on who slides. I’d like a WR1, ILB, edge, or CB, but id also take a top IOL. I really want a TE, but that seems like a luxury with the Thomas restructure. Im not 100% sold on any of our TE other than Hurst and even he’s only about a 60-70% to me. -
Unfinished Business (Second most cap room in NFL at $30m)
SmokinwithWilly replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's also possible we may be waiting until during the draft to acquire a player for a pick. We saw a couple WRs move last season, so we may be hoping to do something like that and spend a little less in draft capital depending on who falls to our pick. -
Has Fitterer ever talked about CJ?

I get what you're saying now. Sometimes reading it doesn't make it come across the same way as it was meant. -

Fitts has never gotten to pick his QB. He always had to go get the reclamation project Rhule wanted. The only QB he did pick Rhule never even tried to develop. -

Fitt didn't pick Teddy, that was Hurney 2.0. He did go get Darnold and Baker at Rhules request. Baker was worth it for a 5th. Darnold cost more because Rhule had already played his hand with T2G and we were desperate. Corral just went to show Rhule had no interest in actually developing a QB. -
I'm not drunk enough to understand this.
