You have to invest in the middle via the draft. Its cheap and easy and rounds 2 and 3 are gold for interior linemen. I've been banging this drum since Kalil's neck injury. Draft your anchor in the middle and keep him. The chemistry between center and QB is the most important on the field. Paradis, Bozeman, Corbitt. Good lawd.

Bryce's Achilles Heel Is Not What You Think It IsSmokinwithWilly replied to fieryprophet's topic in Carolina Panthers Then if he needs time to grow up and he is going to sign an extension in needs to be a 3 year, 20m AAV. He doesn't deserve to get paid like a top 10 QB right now because he's not. Daniel Jones is getting 14m and is playing top notch football. He may have had some better games, but his mechanics and footwork are still terrible when he feels any pressure, real or not. When he feels good, he steps into his throws like he should. When he doesn't, it's that body squared up or jumping arm toss or tip toe lob. His fumbling is a huge problem. He cant run QB sneaks. He cant really play from under center because his drop backs are terrible and he needs to be far back to get enough gapping to see the field. That's not top 10 QB contract worthy. And let's not pretend that Bryce is some victim in all of this. Remember him packing on 20 lbs before the combine for the weigh in and walking around in a hoodie the entire time or practicing that S2 test that no one has mentioned before or since so he'd have better results, or riding that hype train like the wheels weren't ever going to fall off. Stroud got roasted and torn apart because of a "leaked" S2 result. He was being portrayed as an idiot while Bryce was being portrayed as a savant. All Stroud ever said was watch me play football. He proved his point. Bryce did everything he could to make himself the number 1 overall pick and when that happens, guess where you're going? To a bad team, likely with a new coach and it's probably going to be full of dysfunction especially if the owner is Dave Tepper. But the real dysfunction came because Bryce wasn't Reich's choice for QB. He wanted Stroud because Stroud fit the type of offense he ran better than Bryce ever could. That's why he lost interest as soon as he was drafted. He was forced to play Bryce when it was obvious he wasn't ready to show off Tepper's shiny new draft pick. No HC is going to come to a team when he gets no choice over who he has as a QB to build around and he has to reinvent the wheel when the easiest thing to do was just buy the wheel that fit to begin with. Tepper lied to Reich all the way up until draft day, then he made that pick. Then Reich checked out, and i don't blame him one bit. And I'll be clear, I didn't want Reich. I wanted Steichen because of what he's doing in Indy or Ryans because I thought he would make one hell of a leader and HC. Reich was a HC with no control over his own team. I put the majority of what's gone wrong involving Bryce on Tepper. The trade gave up too much in picks and DJ to build around him, we had a horrid GM who couldn't draft or build a roster, a QB forced to play before he's ready, an owner that thinks he knows more than football people. There's a lot of moving pieces in all of this, but we cant pay Bryce 50m AAV at the end of this season while he figures it out, and the 5th year doesnt make sense either if we're a run heavy offense with Bryce as game manager. You dont need a 30m, 5th year option QB for that. If he's not there developmentally, he's not there. Unfortunately, there isnt time to just calm down. He plays like a game manager this year and we have to move on. You dont give game managers huge contracts behind the highest paid oline in football, especially when you need to sign your LT. Any journeyman can give us Bryce level results for 15m less per year. Just the way it is. If there was more time, maybe. Unfortunately there isn't. Just the way it is.

How in the world anyone ever thought that replacing Ryan Kalil with Matt Paradis, Brad Bozeman and Corbett would work out well I can't even comprehend. Even Willie ain't been that high.
-
Losing Pat Jones could end up being an issue for us. He was good at setting the edge against the run and we're going to have to contain Fields in that aspect if nothing else. Can't let him have a career day rushing the ball by letting him escape the backfield.

Bryce's Achilles Heel Is Not What You Think It IsSmokinwithWilly replied to fieryprophet's topic in Carolina Panthers I hear he's excellent at breaking down a play over a Caesar salad.

Bryce's Achilles Heel Is Not What You Think It IsSmokinwithWilly replied to fieryprophet's topic in Carolina Panthers Also, one of the most frequent QBs mentioned to be brought in via trade has been Winston. Ive been one of the anti-Bryce since the beginning and its had to do with 3 things, physical attributes, that S2 hype BS and his god awful footwork. The footwork thing is painful. Like Greg Little at the combine painful.

Bryce's Achilles Heel Is Not What You Think It IsSmokinwithWilly replied to fieryprophet's topic in Carolina Panthers I get your point about varying reasons about why you throw the deep ball, but the frequency is a problem. Mahomes is making that throw at a rate of a little less than 1 per game. It's a legitimate chance that a defense is going to see it at some point. A defense has to respect that part of the offense. Bryce is making that throw once every 3 plus games. That deep ball pass is statistically not a risk. It allows defenses to cheat. They don't have to respect the deep ball because we don't throw it. Whether that's Bryce or DC or any other combination of reasons, that's a problem. It has to be part of the arsenal regularly so defenses are forced to respect that possibility.

Hey You, You Don't Know QuarterbackingSmokinwithWilly replied to fieryprophet's topic in Carolina Panthers We should have brought one in last season for no other reason than if we were to make a playoff run with an improved Bryce from last year, you dont throw that away with an ancient Andy Dalton who already showed he's not capable of more than taking snaps if Bryce were injured.
-
Where do you fall on the Bryce Young spectrum?SmokinwithWilly replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers I think the door is closed barring a major run mainly because of where we are at the end of this year. We have some decisions to make and unless there is a major improvement in Bryce, we have seriously consider moving on. I'm all for giving him the opportunity to make those improvements, mind you. At the minimum, at the end of this year, we need to move on from Dalton and bring in a serious backup QB that fits DC's offensive schemes.

Hey You, You Don't Know QuarterbackingSmokinwithWilly replied to fieryprophet's topic in Carolina Panthers It probably wouldn't be so bad if people posting on this message board hadn't been right more often than the professionals on Tepper's payroll over the last 8 years.

Im trying not to be quick to judge but it really seems like we haven't had a plan since Tepper got here. He's always kept a carry over. We've never wiped the board clean and then started with a plan from the top down. Hire the team pres, hire the GM, hire the coach, build the plan, build the team. Everyone on the same page. Seems like it would be much easier to do it that way.

Now I have a hankering for a butterball turkey.

Hey You, You Don't Know QuarterbackingSmokinwithWilly replied to fieryprophet's topic in Carolina Panthers Ill just be happy if Tepper doesnt make another locker room appearance the rest of the season.

Hey You, You Don't Know QuarterbackingSmokinwithWilly replied to fieryprophet's topic in Carolina Panthers They either had to 100% invest in Bryce and have that plan set up before they even picked him, which they obviously didn't, or never make that pick. Our front office and coaching staff were not prepared for Bryce and whether that's an immense failure of preparation on their part or he sold them a whole lot of poo in interviews, or a combination of both, whatever happened, the result has been a colossal shitshow all the way around. Like I said before, I hope Bryce turns it around and becomes the franchise. But everything thats been done up until now by ownership and our front office could have been done better by a 5 year old playing Madden.

Hey You, You Don't Know QuarterbackingSmokinwithWilly replied to fieryprophet's topic in Carolina Panthers We dont want him to fail. We want him to succeed. We want him to be the franchise. We are fast approaching a critical point this offseason where we have to either extend him, decline or take his 5th year, or play him on his final year. Our FO has been very lazy about building anything behind him if he isnt the guy, to prevent us being forced to go QB in the 1st again. The way this whole situation has been handled from the trade, to the Teppers, to Reich, to the combine, etc has been ridiculous.

This has to be bitached about, those biased refsSmokinwithWilly replied to Basbear's topic in Carolina Panthers There was some pretty egregious missed calls vs the Chiefs in the Lions game, especially Kelce. The completion where he clearly used the ground to catch the ball. The hold in front of the ref as Pacheco ran by where the defender was trying to turn around and couldnt because Kelce had him by the jersey. Mahomes openly taunting after scoring a TD. 0 penalties after double digit the week before. Cmon.

This has to be bitached about, those biased refsSmokinwithWilly replied to Basbear's topic in Carolina Panthers Go back and watch the Lions Chiefs game this week and its the same thing. The NFL wasnt going to let the Chiefs be 2-4. The NFL is an entertainment league. They can have the refs steer games however they like.

Moton isnt going anywhere. We just gave him a 2 year 44 million extension with 40m guaranteed.
-
Hate to say it but this is one of the reasons we really didnt need to extend Moton yet. Some tough decisions are going to have to be made. We cant afford to pay everybody.
-
Clone Luke, TD Pep and rush them through an accelerated growth program.

Corbett cant play either really well. Don't break what ain't broke.

It’s time to discuss DANimal Morgan as our GMSmokinwithWilly replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers That was Fittershits. Granted Morgan was assistant. Since then Tepper has supposedly stepped back, but as I said, makes his opinion well known. You can't tell how much influence he's exerting.

It’s time to discuss DANimal Morgan as our GMSmokinwithWilly replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers It's part of what makes his job as GM so hard to judge. You cant tell what Tepper has forced. He made it perfectly clear he walks through the building making his opinion well known and when the big boss does that he intends for people to listen even when he's being "hands off."
