Official Week 2: Panthers @ Cardinals Gameday Thread
SmokinwithWilly replied to Super Grateful's topic in Carolina Panthers
Our defense hasn't played well at all, over the past year, but how do you even give a fug when this is your fugging offense. -
Could probably get Jameis for pennies

Jameis Winston is like a trash can punch party. Its either gonna be one hell of a night, or a hangover that makes you want to swear off drinking forever. There is no middle ground. -

Howell would be interesting. Still young enough if he managed to turn it around, we would have some options instead of hoping Bryce can turn it around in year 4 or trading up again to draft another QB when we're not sure who to target with the number 1. -

You have to do something if Bryce continues down this path. You can’t delay development and waste careers because you’re hoping for a better draft pick. Always try to get better. If it was a game or 2 left, fine. But assuming 75% of the season remains when the call that it’s done for BY, you do something to improve the situation. -
So good enough for the Saints.

The way they draft has played out makes me think Tepper, or at least his system, is still involved. Our drafting looks based more of an algorithm and some analytic model than watching actual football or even common sense. Now we've brought PFF into the building. More analytics. Where are the guys that just watch football. This guy can separate. This guy rises under pressure. This guy has a feel for the flow of the game. Bend. Hands. Footwork. Just fuging football. Its like we're watching fantasy football based drafting and team building except there isn't a waiver wire to pick up the hot replacement for one of your bust picks.

I had emergency gallbladder removal and was back at work on limited movement, hard physical job but it was 4 weeks before I felt comfortable really stressing the surgical area. No way I'd have thought of getting hit, punched, kneed, or torqued on a semi-fresh incision in 2 weeks. These guys are also carrying extra weight so its also what they had to cut through as well.
-
Emergency surgery to the gut reasulting in not being NFL impact ready in 2 weeks isn't something I'd really consider being pussy behavior.

You can also see it in how he didnt even try to build an offense for Bryce. Stroud was his QB and he was overruled. He lost interest immediately. He went through the motions until he was fired.

Not disagreeing about needing a strong IOL, just our method of doing it. The 2nd and 3rd rounds are the optimal place to find guards and centers, and we've spent picks on TMJ, Mingo, DJ Johnson, Tremble, Brooks, and even an overweight Deonte Brown instead of Trey Smith in the 6th. We just do things the hard and expensive way and its so damn frustrating.
-
I think the way they addressed the IOL was moronic. Many of us have been saying for years we needed to draft IOL and there have been plenty of high quality available for us to take, but instead we've taken fliers on guys with high RAS scores, raw potential, or athleticism that turned into the turd burgers that we all knew they would. We draft stupidly and we build stupidly. While we have spent more resources on offense than defense, we've wasted more on sheer ignorance than we've spent on either.

Im not saying there's anything wrong with the 3-4. Im saying we've done it wrong. When Tepper forced Ron to switch we didnt have the players to make the change and since then, we haven't been good at acquiring them. If youre going to lean into a scheme, lean into it. We kind of looked at it, but never fully committed and it shows. Now we've got this turd that is just awful.
-
This 3-4 is the death of our defense and has been since Tepper forced it on Ron. We've never had the personnel to implement it correctly and Evero isn't the coach to do it either. It takes years to move from a 4-3 to a 3-4 with good drafting, so with our FO, we should get there by 2194.
-
I don't mind spending the resources either because you have to know if Bryce is the guy. His next contract will be in the 30-50m AAV depending on his play level. Eventually someone that spending is going to have to fall off and when it does, he's still going to need to be that guy. But pretending he's the only QB in the league that has a difficult road to get up to speed is disingenuous. Other QBs are coming in and simply looking more prepared, more talented, and more like an NFL starting QB. All the pre draft hype has been just that, hype. This isn't all his fault. The team has no identity from top to bottom starting with the owner. Maybe he is successful elsewhere, but with this team, this owner, this FO, and this coaching staff, it's going to be hard for anyone, much less someone that needs to be a unicorn in the SB era.

Considering there was a thread about it 12 hours ago that was moved to the tinderbox you're a little behind in your posting. -
Stroud has a wee bit more success than Bryce. Bryce looking bad is the norm, not the anomaly. He's not able to execute the most basic decision making during plays, especially when he was touted as this master processor. Its year 3 and he looked like a rookie in preseason. The play calling is blah but I'm not so sure its not because of Bryce being unable to do more.

So is BY. We thought Darnold and Baker were dogsh*t but a change seems to have made a difference. I'd offer straight across if they'd take it. Nothing to lose in reality. Maybe get lucky and he actually finds his potential or more than likely he train wrecks into the top 2 picks with Miami. Doesnt really matter either way, but I forgot what it looks like to see a ball sail 40 yards with the flick of the wrist from a Carolina QB. I dream of watching TMac catch a 60 yard in the air TD.

Im waiting a couple more weeks to see if Jones looks consistently good in Indy and making a very low end offer for AR because he will be on the outs. Is he going to suck? More than likely. But can he actually make the throws physically to open up the field? Yes. We've got suck right now and Dalton isn't going to change that. Who knows what could happen. But a full season of what we saw Sunday will cost DC the locker room.
-
Maybe because once again, a 1st round pick has gone to adding another piece for BY. 2nd round edge rushers are rarely going to be massive impact players as rookies and our LB corps is thinner than porta-potty TP. Our defense isn't good because our resources have been spent on our offense. If we had spent 3 years worth of resources on defense, this conversation would be more than warranted.
