My biggest criticism has always been the panic of Fitterer that led to the trade up and pick. Hearing a GM admit he panicked 2 years in a row never gives you the warm and fuzzies.

Lance also spent a majority of his career hurt. By the time he got reasonably healthy, he had already been passed by. It happens. SF got lucky with Purdy, but he fits what they do really well and smart coaches don't bench the hot hand just because he was drafted last vs 3rd. If we had a QB of Jimmy Gs caliber, and it's debatable even with Dalton, and Frank wasn't such a stubborn ass, Bryce would be on the bench. The only game we have seen from Dalton he performed better than Bryce even with Zavala giving up 14 pressures and in piss poor weather. The only reason BY is playing is he was the 1st overall pick and with CJ lighting up Houston, there's no way he can be benched while the number 2 player in the draft is winning OROY hands down and is in consideration for MVP. That would just make things worse, if that's even possible. If BY had been a 2nd or 3rd round pick, he would be on the bench, where he should be. His draft spot is the only reason he's starting. Lance was never expected to be the savior of the franchise or be the most cerebral QB since Peyton Manning. He wasn't the next god of football. He was always a risk. He wasnt ever going to be the 1st or 2nd QB taken even in his own draft. Bryce was always high floor, low ceiling and was passed by the others during preseason. He was supposed to be the one QB that couldn't fail. You trade what we did, put the franchise all in on the biggest physical gamble at the position in modern NFL history, and get this level of play. Yeah it's safe to say he's blowing Lance out of the water in terms of busting.

This offense is god awful. It's boring and predictable with hardly any motion. Supposedly he picked Bryce. If that's true, he can be judged because this is his guy. If Tepper picked Bryce, then that means it's still Frank's fault for agreeing to work for someone making player decisions with absolutely no idea what they're doing. Might as well get a heart transplant at Meineke.

I'll disagree with you here about Rhule. The time to fire him was at the end of season 2. We didn't and kept him, then fired him 5 games in knowing we needed a QB and t a top pick to get one. What made the most sense at that point was to keep Rhule, say fug the season, and go into the offseason with one of the top 3 picks. You could argue that getting into the playoffs would have been success, but it wouldn't have actually fixed the problem. Darnold isn't/wasn't this team's future. Doing what was necessary required vision. But we don't do that here. Firing Rhule was right. The decision to do it at that time was definitely wrong.

He's had his shot and he's poo the bed like a dog that ate a whole box of exlax. There's no coach in the NFL that would take BY the way he's playing vs Purdy right now. Would not happen.

Bryce Young wouldn't see the field if Brock Purdy was on our roster.

The price for BY is what makes the difference. The 9ers were in a position that taking Lance didn't hurt them as much if he busted because they still had Jimmy G. They did get lucky with Purdy but it didn't affect them overall. Rosen was an ass and gone one year later and they drafted Murray because they still had their picks. Bryce will easily be the biggest NFL bust because of the price paid.

I love seeing Ryans and that team. He was leading my wish list for HC candidates after Steichen and Johnson only because I wanted an offensive oriented HC. If we had gone defensive, it would have been Ryans right from the start.

The difference is the 9ers still had a QB in Garrappalo in their pocket. We had nothing. While missing on Lance hurt for them it wasn't the end of the world. Missing on Bryce for us is a death sentence for wins for the next 2 to 3 years.

Based on what we've seen so far. Maybe round 4, but UDFA wouldn't surprise me at all.
