Teams need elite players. This is a 2 win team that has serious issues at the QB spot right now. We're not a JJ away from contending. We don't even know if this coach/gm combo can build a roster yet. Spending more assets in picks/players to plug a player into a system that we don't know will even work isn't a good idea. This teams has a lot of holes and a lot of not even a JAG players and we don't have a ton of draft capitol to work with. If we were on the precipice of being a serious contender, I'd say go for it. We're not there yet, and pulling in JJ right now isn't going to get us there by itself. Either we embrace the rebuild or we don't. Making a move like this is only going to make it harder to get this team out of the cellar.

Panthers building new training facilities

Tell the players you don't give a fug about their health without actually telling them. -
This is not a sarcastic question. Do we know if Dave and Nicole are making the trip to the combine this year?

How Would You Grade the 2023 Draft Now?
SmokinwithWilly replied to Hoenheim's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm not sure the Panthers could have messed it up any worse if they had tried. It's like they decided on an entire draft of Eric Sheltons. -
Josina Anderson thoughts on the Burns situation

You can't play like you're afraid of being hurt in what is essentially a contract year. Other teams are watching and Hurney isn't here to pay based on potential instead of performance. -
Getting Crunch Time for the Panthers and Brian Burns

Maybe we get lucky and some GM gets really really drunk at the St. Patty's day party. -
If we end up letting him walk for a 3rd round comp pick after being offered 2 1sts and a high 2nd for him last year, it will be the most Panthers thing ever.

So which one of you hillbillies is Forrest Quinn?

Memories of the guy that lived on a billboard in the 90s until the Hornets won 2 in a row. 5 damn weeks. -
One of the biggest issues with Burns trade value now is him openly stating he was playing with getting hurt in mind. So if another teams were to ink him and he has a contract issue, it's reasonable to expect that same level of dedication. How do you ink a guy to a massive contract knowing he may not give you everything. Luvu was in a contract year and played his ass off. I'll take that dawg any day if I have the choice of the 2.

Ehhh. If the offense wasn't going to bother to stay for the second half, or show up for the first half for that matter, why should fans?

Our Bryce led offense averaged 13 points per game. Hope is not a solution. The best defense in the NFL in 2023 was Baltimore and they averaged 16.2 allowed. We have to be 4 points better than the best team in the NFL last year to stand a chance at winning a game with the current state of our offense. What good does it do to have the best defense in football if you can't score?

What is the obsession of loud music in your car?

I used to drive through church parking lots during services and set off all the car alarms. -
Serious question. How would you fix the offense and still sign Chris Jones and DB?
-
Football is a team sport. SF defense did not carry the offense to the playoffs. The offense had 2 MVP candidates and one of them ended up being the OPOY. The offense did more than it's fair share. Shanahan is a problem in the big games. He stops doing what got him the lead in the first place. I've said before, Wilks called a great game in the SB until the very end when they went into that prevent D and then in OT when Reid took him behind the woodshed. Wilks should probably get another shot at being a HC. What happened in AZ wasn't his fault entirely but it certainly carries a stigma. Then there's the number of jobs he's been in in a short period of time. Some guys make great coordinators and crappy HCs. Add the interview process and the plan for building a team. It's hard to say why he hasn't gotten the call again, but I'd say he deserves it a shot.

Nobody got the vision except for Scott Fuggerer and we saw how that turned out. The Huddle was right about major moves more than Scott by a long shot and that's just damn sad. The trade was important, but I think it was also premature for a couple of reasons. 1. Reich was the wrong coach from the start. I know you love Wilks, but he was never my choice. My choices were Steichen, Johnson and Ryans. I know Steve is a local guy and he did pull off some wins at the end of the season, but personally I love the energy and passion from Steichen and especially Ryans. Ryans was always my number 1 if we chose a defensive HC. 2. We were not a couple of pieces away from being a real contender. We really didn't know what we had because Rhule was such a buffoon that he didn't put anyone in a position to succeed, or even be productive. It's hard to build around a team when you don't even know what your team has. 3. Most important, the team had no real identity. You can't pick a new QB to fit a system when you don't even know what that system is. We were a year removed from Rhule trying to get rid of "Keep Pounding" and replace it with The Process. Again, we didn't know the effectiveness of many of the players because they weren't used enough, or they were used out of position. Even after the trade, we weren't putting BY, CJ, or AR into a position to be successful. You've got a guy trying to steer a rudderless ship. The team needs direction and that starts with Tepper. Right now, Tepper looks like a toddler in the cereal aisle screaming at the top of his lungs and the fans are the people staring at him wishing he would shut the hell up.
-
Since Tepper bought the team, there has never been a rebuild full scale. We've tried to buy cheap and flip for gold and it has failed miserably. This team can't go any further until Bryce proves he's not the guy. Now to a lot of fans, he's already proven that. For Tepper, his golden boy is going to have to crash and burn even more spectacularly for him to move on. If we had an owner that understood this is an NFL franchise and not a hedge fund, it would be different. But it's not and this is the Carolina Panthers of 2024.
-
Normally I agree with putting assets into defense, but right now our offense can't score points. No defense is going to hold an opponent under 14 points a game. We have to put resources into offense first if for no other reason than to say with certainty Bryce is or isn't our QB moving into 25'.
