Did I say sit him for 2 years? No. 1. And I'm not sure he would sit that long. Goff is terrible. They didnt trade for Goff to be the future. They traded away cap space for 1sts. I mean I guess you could call the Chiefs idiots for sitting Mahomes for a year and then moving on from Alex Smith. They wasted a year of his rookie contract. If you think your QB of the future is there, you take him. Franchise QB is the hardest position to find. No other position matters as much.

T.B. is not a decent backup, just an expensive one.

You do if you think you won't have a shot at the top 2 pick next year or you think it's a weak QB class. Coaches don't have 4 years to wait for something to pan out. If they like Lance, take him at 7, let him sit a year and compete with Goff in 2022. After 2022 Goff is gone and you have a seasoned starter, not a fresh rookie in your 3rd season as HC. And with 2 extra firsts they can afford a luxury QB pick if they think he's the future. It might not make a whole lot of sense in terms of draft capital, but the picture is bigger than that. Year 3 the HC and GM could already be on the hot seat. This is about more than just draft picks. HC and GM have to think about their futures as well.

Panthers confirmed to be in Stafford discussion

Goff is not anyone’s answer at QB. Just because they traded for him doesn’t mean he’s the future in Detroit. QB at 7 is definitely still on the table. -

Trade agreed to in principle. No paperwork filed officially. -
That’s why as much as I don’t want TB here next year, he likely is. We will have to pay to get rid of that contract. We saw what it cost to dump the Osweiller contract. Getting rid of Goff’s was going to cost a 1st at least.

Jay Gruden on how Washington drafts work
SmokinwithWilly replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
They left off “until Dan Snyder called and fugged up the process.” Well they didn’t leave it off, just said it a little more politically correct. -
First off, I needed a break from the Watson trade talks. I still think we end up with more DW threads than days until trade deadline, but I digress. So without further ado, I'm a big proponent of trading down and trying to pick up extra picks if all 4 top QBs are gone by 8 and we don't make a move up to get one or end up with DW or MS, and Sewell is gone also. I've been thinking about trade partners and who could move and why and Jacksonville is a team I could see possibly wanting to trade back up and why. We would give our 1st (8) and 4th(103) for Jax 1st (25) and 2nds (33 and 45). Now of course you have to ask who would Jax move up to get. Surtain, Smith, Chase, Slater, Parsons all possible to be available. But the player I could see them moving up for is Pitts. Everyone has seen how much a TE can exploit a defense and Pitts presents a mismatch nightmare and a great safety net for a rookie QB. He could be considered an elite talent. Now if we moved down it would open up a plethora of options having 4 picks in the top 45. We could add a QB like Newman, Trask or Jones if we wanted and still have extra picks to grab 2 guys that fall out of the first and bolster some positions where we are thin. The trade is skewed in our favor naturally, an elite talent level pick for 3 very talented picks. Jax might want a 3rd instead of a 4th but it would still calculate in our favor. Given how many holes we have, with the top 4 being gone, and a chance to have 3 instant contributors vs 1, would you make that move?

Panthers let go of a couple of front office guys
SmokinwithWilly replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
Sounds like he was just around the Hurndog too much. -
There's more to the NFL than playing the game. Theres a business side to this too and most of these guys arent to good at that judging by the 75% of them that are broke 5 years after retirement. JR always wanted this to be a family organization and at some point you cant do that anymore. Break ups are ugly. People arent happy. poo gets blown out of proportion. This is part of the business.

Because Bill O’Brian thought Tunsil and Stills was worth 2 1sts and Andre Hopkins was only worth a 4th and a bloated RB contract. He is one of the few GMs I would take Hurney over.

Most Disappointing Moves of the 2020 Offseason
SmokinwithWilly replied to AceBoogie's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think Tepper underestimated the level of Hurney’s stupidity. He wasn’t here for the first run so he hadn’t seen how so many of these deals had actually ended up.- 35 replies

I think it's too steep because Houston has no leverage here. They can ask whatever they want but Watson is driving this train. We need Watson to say the Panthers is where he wants to be. Use that to get the asking price down. I think 3 1sts and our 2nd this year plus TB and we get Watson and their 2nds in 22 and 23.

Deshaun WATSON Officially Requests Trade from Texans
SmokinwithWilly replied to ncstatekwi's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm sure they would want him out of the AFC too, but if you're setting up your franchise, you may not get your QB at 3. Miami is a great landing spot too, I guess it all depends on if they want a QB in the draft and if they think the Jets will take him. -
Deshaun WATSON Officially Requests Trade from Texans
SmokinwithWilly replied to ncstatekwi's topic in Carolina Panthers
Sadly that's the case. The Jets actually would be the ideal trade partner. With the 2 pick and the extras, the Texans could draft their future QB or request Darnold as part of the trade or both. Saleh has his QB and is good and has the foundation of a good oline. Those 2 are a perfect trade match. Sadly, here we are with 2 contracts we never should have signed with TB and CMC and are sitting I cap strapped hell when an opportunity really presents itself. Thanks Marty, you're the best. -
Who would be poor mans Jimmy Clausen? Brian St. Pierre or Chris Weinke?
